Pretty simple question, how are skills and loot worked out?
I have heard alot of ppl compare this game to Lineage 2, a game which I am just starting to play now to kill some time, but I dont really like either the skill system or the loot system in L2.
Do mobs drop items appropriate to thier kind, i.e humanoids drop weapons and armour, animals drop skills and teeth ... or do you find bears dropping stacks of money when you kill them?
Is the game at all twitch based, or as in L2 (based on my experiance from lvl 1- 17) totally static hack fest, with few useful skills, and nothing that takes any skill to use.
A description and maybe a comparison would be nice ...

The loot is seen as different symbols on the ground once you kill the mob. Then, you have about 45 seconds in which you can pick up the items and put them in your inventory, or you can just leave them if you don't want them. Other people can pick them up after the 45 seconds.
I didn't play L2, so I'm not sure I can compare everything for you. But in terms of drops, aside from weapons and armor, which everything seems to drop. The craftable items make sense from each mob. I.e. a bug with pincers will drop a claw or something.
In terms of the play style. I don't think it is as hack and slash as L2 sounds. As a Cora warrior, I have 6 separate skills I can use at level 1. Each one, requires FP and you want to use each of them a lot because they get better and level up the more you use them. They each have different benefits and the cooldown is relatively low. Like 2 minutes for the buff, and 15 seconds for the special attacks.
The thing that requires more attention than hack and slash mentality, is leveling your appropriate PTs. You can get exp by just hacking away, but you are gimping your character. You should be worried about your defense pt, close combat pt and shield pt if you are a shield-weilding warrior like myself. Maybe focus on ranged pt also, if you want to use ranger armor.
So there is a lot more to it I think.
The pt thing sounds interesting. However, would a ranger need the defence PT points so that they can get hit? I always pick the archer in MMOs and I want to know if I am actlualy going to have to take a hit or if it will be kiting as usual.
Btw. God post
Thanks for the "God" post remark, lol.
A ranger should level their defense PT, because otherwise, they are paper thin. Defense pt isn't as hard to level as some otehr things (it goes up everytime you get hit) so it shouldn't be an issue. If you find yourself just getting behind in defense per level, just stop shooting things and let them hit you to gain defense pt, then use pots to keep health up.
That is how I level defense and shield pt.
Rangers with ranger armor do run a little bit faster than others, but you will be taking hits eventually, so it is important that you level defense. This game isn't as role focused as some others...with a specific healer, DD, and tank, etc. Some jobs can do things better than others, but in general, everyone is going to be tanking, healing, and doing damage at the same time (more fun imo).
Sounds pretty good.
A few extra questions:-
1). How fluid is combat? Do you get any advantages from moving around, do you need to keep mobs/players infront of you to retain shield/dodge benefits, or are you considered to have 360 skills?
2). Are there stuns or similar skills
3). Do mobs have skills similar to players?
4). Downtime from solo'ing, can you take multiple mobs your own lvl, or only a few?
5). What kind of non-combat skills are there, and how fun/much of a grind is crafting?
6). Can you compare magical items to another game, do they drop often or rarely, do they give stat adjustments, or skill adjustments, or extra damage?
Thats all I can think of for now, thanks,

Combat is very fluid and very good looking. If you attack the mob, then you will automatically face it. You don't have to continually move around. It's more of a typical MMO style of fighting, than DDO was if you tried that one out.
2). Are there stuns or similar skills
Yes, but there aren't that many of them.
3). Do mobs have skills similar to players?
Not that I've seen so far, but I'm only level 12. The mobs that I've fought just beat on me with their claws, teeth, etc. I'm sure that the humanoid mobs later on will have debuffs, skills, etc.
4). Downtime from solo'ing, can you take multiple mobs your own lvl, or only a few?
I've had success figting 2 mobs that are a few levels above me. The down time is directly related to how much potions that you have. There is no real healer class (unless you're Belato), so the game play demands that you have a heafty supply of health/mana/stamina pots. It's not a huge deal as they're fairly cheap to purchase and can stack to 99.
5). What kind of non-combat skills are there, and how fun/much of a grind is crafting?
Crafting can only be done by one character class, Specialist. I'm unsure to the dynamics of player-interaction with crafting yet. But, I envision it as people will go out and get the materials that they need, then find a Specialist who can craft it for you. The Specialists will also be selling their wares, to whoever wants to buy. I think I read that the Specialists are intended to be able to make the most powerful armor/weapons in the game. So, these aren't to be gotten from mob drops (but the materials will undoubtedly be gotten from mob drops).
Mining, is where you get the important materials. Everyone can mine if you have a mining tool and battery (buy these at the Ore vendor). However, it's intended to be done while you are AFK. You equip the mining tool and have the battery in your inventory. Then you just stand at a mining spot in the Crag Mines. You can even select what color of ore that you want to mine and you will get only that color (the +1, +2, +3 is variable). So, gathering ore isn't too much fun, but at least you can do it while you sleep.
I also, don't know how this works with the Chip Wars. These are supposed to gain you access to the mine right? Does it lock all the losing races out of mining?
6). Can you compare magical items to another game, do they drop often or rarely, do they give stat adjustments, or skill adjustments, or extra damage?
They're fairly rare. You'll get a few each session that you play, but it probably won't be something that you can use. For example, I got 2 purple items last night (magical enhancements; yellow is damage enhancements). But it was a shield and a spear. I'm a specialist and they wouldn't benefit me much, so I just sold them. (I'm not gonna try trading in Beta, cuz I just want to play the game)
In terms of the Chip Wars. What happens is... if you win the chip wars (destroy each of the other race's Chip) then you can mine right in the core area of the mine, where you get much more production from mining, without having to worry about the mine guardian attacking you.
What I mean in, if you are Bellato, and Cora won the chip war, you can try and mine in the core, but this large guardian thing will kill you. If you won the war, the guardian doesn't hurt you. The amount of time you have to mine directly corresponds to how much HP your race's chip had when the war ended.
If there is no winner, sometimes races will mine there anyway, and just take the risk of being killed by the guardian. Though I'm guessing at higher levels, they won't do that, because losing exp canbe such a pain.
