[Column] Warhammer 40.000: Eternal Crusade: The Downed Man State in EC

In this week's Eternal Crusade column, we are going to talk about two topics that are somewhat inter-related, the role of support classes, and the “downed man” state, in Behaviour's upcoming game.

Actually a very good article, I personally like the concept but would suggest that the revive should be modified so it is not "practically suicide" to try and revive someone.  Difficult I get but not to the point of impossibility.

Support classes that aren't pure healers is nice.  Matches the tabletop and the lore, too.  (or is this more a case of it being fortunate that what matches the tabletop and lore also works well for a third person shooter?  Well, it's all good either way)

I think that they could take some pointers from Firefall with this concept. For example, reviving a dead player during an event or mission will give you an xp bonus on the mission reward (although tiny). Also, the Biotech (Healer/DoT specialist battleframe) has a move which can be used on the advanced frames as well which increases damage resistance and decreases revive by more than half. You can then also find and craft a special version of this ability which allows you to freely move through both enemies and allies to avoid unit collision at the cost of additional time on cooldown. Also, they have a perk (skill/talent points) which makes it so players you revive come back at full health instead of only 1/3.

If they created such means of building your character to better reduce the risks and rewards to reviving someone at the cost of specializing in building off their offensive abilities. You'd then have a "support" character which can still do damage, but is better and rewarded for increasing it's support role.

or they could just make a pure apothecary class (least for loyalists as it does exist in command squads) that has better ratio for battle field revives but sacrifices offense (most come with only a pistol or melee weapon not both on TT)

there by making it that the class has an damage reduction % or faster revive animation to standard units healing up downed guys.  i remember playing medic in BF42/2 and doing combat dives to revive guys while being shot at and snipped. had a decent 50/50 success rate in a rolling fighter fight also helped turn battles as you wind up with more boots on the ground fighting if you pull dying guys back up.

if they leave medkits for all classes that give a revive rate of say 10seconds (standard in most fps) but make a special healer/medic class that has a 5second revive instead that might help balance it out making it less of a risk saving people in a rolling battle.

from what i have see of the game it seems to me a rhino and revivals would play a huge part in moving up the battle spawn point helping to push battle lines.  but all the press battles iv seen no one bothers to even try and save team mates or revive them its just OH hes dead moving on :/

Would love it if you could also crawl on all fours after being downed, all while leaving a nice trail of blood (i.e. Gears of War 3).

It is a hybrid model.  You can play the Orc faction for free (at this point not all of the Orc faction like elites/heroes will cost money) or you can buy to play SM/CSM/Eldar.  Buying the other factions does not completely open them either, you still would have to buy heroes, elites and special weapons ,stuff like that.

Basically what it comes down too is you can buy in as much or as little as you want.  Or you can play Orc for free.  The reason this work is lateral progression, the game will be more skill based as opposed to gear based.
