I can't believe they got George Clooney to do the narration on the video.

So the solution is to take away any choice in passives and force people to pick from a 9-skill grid as they do in WoW?

The solution to a problem isn't to simply give in to that problem completely.

Granted, this change might be slightly different in TOR due to there being a "utility grid" as well, but WoW's change was horrible nonetheless.

The most fun I ever had in that game was when I could mix and match elemental skills on a frostfire mage in WotLK. I was one of the few mages who went with elemental skills in PvP in vanilla as well, while most of them went with the cookie-cutter PoM-pyro spec. Until certain videos started to surface of how viable things like the scorch spec really were.

In TOR as well, hybrid specs outshone the pure specs in many ways. Hybrid sorcs / sages were the most powerful combination in PvP for a long time and hybrid vanguard tanks were a great mix for PvP when I started the game.

Bioware forced everyone down the "pure" specs because they didn't like the hybrids to begin with. So they have little reason to complain about people not combining the specs now.

If you want to make a better system, simply make it more fun and intuitive to pick passive boosts in a similar fashion to what they're going to do to the actives. Grinding for 10 levels to get some marginal talent slot completed isn't fun, I agree, but the solution isn't to just take all choice away from the player.

Well, they'll be showing the system off tomorrow on a live stream.

So hopefully that'll shed some light on what we can, and can't do with it.

    Yeah, we'll see.

I'm crossing my fingers for more choice and not less. It'll probably be one of either though.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

That and the early access. (And the level boost for class stories leading up to the expansion)

That headstart's going to leave me highly conflicted... there's like no chance I'll be done with Dragon Age Inquisition by then.

    Curse my completionist OCD!

I am glad I am taking off work 2 weeks to play Dragon Age. I hope that I will finish it before expansion LOL... oh well... might thing of taking more time off

Could not be worse timing at least not for me. Love Swtor, was hoping for some true expansion ... but my 1st is still Wow and releasing 1 month after WOD at least for me is very bad timing. Probably will buy expansion before, but will play only after aprox half year, because I will be very busy now with Wod. Wow+Swtor+Rift+random other games is all I need for my gaming needs. :-) On very top Wow, pretty close 2nd Swtor, ... Rift althrough I love him it is still pretty behind, not to speak about rest.
  • IkedaIkeda Member RarePosts: 2,751

I think that'd be the point of the timing.

on another note, got my first 55 last night and finished the knight story arc.  That was nice, and pretty much what I would have wanted from a KOTOR3.  Good ending and nice to see so many familiar faces.

thanks to the XP buff, I now have 7 classes to try to fit in before Dec 1.  I think I'm going Pub side first.

    Congratulations, Ikeda!

Knight's among my favorite of the stories, and one of the most epic ones.

    Oh man. This is awesome...

I'll be pre-ordering this stuff ASAP. And that 12 CLASS XP buff? Pure gold. I was actually pondering about trying something else once I finish my Jedi Guardian's story, which has been great so far, but I'm thinking the next thing I'll do is jump on the BH train and try out a Mercenary. I also checked out the new skill tree system ("Disciples") and from what I read from the blog on their homepage it sounds promising, it reminded me a bit of the new trait system in Lotro but I'm holding judgement on that until a good chunk of information is given, otherwise it'd be just speculation but here's hoping it won't be a clear reflection of the system WoW is currently using.

One thing I'm curious about is what new skills will be added and which skills will be changed. I'm a pvper at heart, but I jump into role-play in between so I'll be looking forward to the lore behind Revan's decision. My guess is he's just fed up with both the Republic and the corruption it festers and the Empire for being the Empire.

TL;DR Going to get that damn Revan Statue. Right. Now.

Finished all possible combinations of story lines, both factions, long ago, they are all ready for expansion. :-) As said however, I plan now to enjoy in full WoD for at least 5-6 months.

Seems like they're giving you a bit more reason to dust off all your alts with the coming expansion.

Some more good news from the official forums (at least for those of us who loved the class stories):

Eric, with respect, could we get an answer on this, please? | 10.07.2014, 04:24 PM

Darth_Wicked, with respect, here is your answer (I am not sure why we are being so formal, but this is good fun).

For the most part, yes, what you will play is one singular storyline which is being told from two different sides, as player-characters of both factions have the same goals in the storyline (as in Forged Alliances). Additionally, each player class will be given one unique Class Story Mission as part of the storyline; these are entirely different from one another.

    Thanks!

What a dilemma WOW's WoD or SW;TOR's SoR....      guess WoW can wait another few months or 6 image

i think SW;TOR is now officially an exception to my 'don't pre-order anything' rule image

I'd just sub for 1 month and the ROTHC expansion will be free but it looks like it is also free with preorder. Must be so as they want you to level to 55 fast

The trailer reminded me of one of them World of Warcraft trailers / cut scenes in the game where both Alliance and HORDE had a common enemy. Was it WoWs Wrath of the Lich King xpac or the Panda xpac? Maybe I am wrong on both, but do remember both horde and alliance were getting wiped by a common threat.

If I were to guess I'd say Cataclysm, since Deathwing was burning down everything he came across of.

But yeah, they've united against a common foe several times.

Either works. If you buy the expansion you should get Rise of the Hutt Cartel immediately, but doing what DocBrody says will also work.

On a side note, I also just discovered that we can train skills for free now! :O

Probably because we'd be dirt poor otherwise thanks to the enhanced leveling speed!

Not sure about the skill tree changes , yet! Otherwise pretty decent 8 unique class stories , well 1 each. 2 tacticals , 4 HM FP's and 2 OPS. Hmm two planets. We shall see. Also they have announced that you will be able to solo forged alliances.

    Quote below.

Funny you should mention that, we are actually going to do that very thing! It is really important as we head into Shadow of Revan that players have seen the Forged Alliances storyline. Although we will certainly never force you through it, we want to make it so that if you haven't played through it, you have an opportunity to see the whole storyline, even by yourself if you choose!

So aye seems pretty decent , I hope my hybrids don't get hurt too much though.

    Cheers,

Hope not, im altholic and I love mainly questing. End game in sense of dungeons only after I'm done enjoying leveling up all my alts. Others find joy only in end game which is hard to understand for me. However I admit I leveled all my 11 alliance alts in Wow by questing only, 11 alts from Horde (10 of them maxed out, too) however mixed, few alts only via questing as I love to experience also alternate quests in same areas, but many times I might go in dungs.

I like that. Thanks for info!

I think that the idea of adding unique class story mission to hopefully every expansion is a good compromise. Hopefully we will see it in every expansion.

I guess it's time for me to work on Reps... I got plenty of 55 Imps... like 10 0f them if not more... lost count... and only 3 reps. Empire rules!!!!!

Yeah, a hybrid system like that is something I've been hoping for ever since they said there'd be no more class stories.

So seeing Eric deliver that news pretty much made my day.

I'm using the class xp boost to work on my new Merc, Juggy and Sentinel... though the first two were already in their mid-forties before it came out, and doing the Belsavis planetary arc... so the XP boost hasn't helped them much. The Sent will be a different story since she's only level 12.

And also, yes, Empire for life! image

As a huge fan of the Class stories this part of the Q&A made me smile:

Will class quests be structured more like 3.0 class quests from now on?
They want to include as much class stuff as they can, and 3.0 is a testing ground to see our reactions and whether we like it. They won’t be doing full storylines like pre-50 stuff but they do want to include more of it in the future.

I've been hoping for a nice balance between class stories and faction stories since the decision to make no more class stories was announced.

Here's to hoping the expansion performs well, and we'll see more "hybrid" storylines. Having unique content for each class was always one of the game's strongest selling points after all.

    Not quite.

Currently RotHC is best described as "accessible" to subscribers rather than free. Basically it is a subscriber perk which goes away if you stop subscribing.

Those who purchase the new xpac however will get RotHC whether they are subscribers or not.

I think the question about pre-ordering is a good one and not at all stupid.

People buy more games in the run up to Christmas (US also Thanksgiving). Then there is a period in early January - when people redeem any vouchers they have. Then oblivion.

Not sure whether this year is worse than usual but it is crowded: Dragon Age, WoD, CoD, Civ, Assassin's Creed (platform mix); Halo; GTA5; Far Cry; Destiny DLC; Little Big; Bayonetta, Borderlands ....  some I want to play at some point (as well as some that have recently launched). I guess we should rejoice at having so much choice.
