Heroes of the Storm: Final Alpha Phase Begins

Blizzard has let alpha testers know that the final alpha phase for Heroes of the Storm has started. Players are invited to return to the game to check out a slew of improvements and a pair of newly added heroes as well. In addition, European testers will be able to finally check out HotS beginning October 9th.

Here’s a quick recap of what’s new and what’s changed. You can find a more detailed list of the changes in our patch notes.


  • Moved to Production Hardware

    • Heroes is no longer on a testing realm. Players are now connected to their home region and can access their existing Battle.net friend list

  • Custom Games Re-Introduced

    • Players can now face off against friends and pre-selected opponents

  • Replay System and Observer Mode Added

    • Relive your best moments and watch any custom game you’ve been invited to view

  • Two New Heroes Playable

    • Anub’arak and Azmodan are now available for play

  • Heroes Community Tournaments

    • We’ve updated our Community Tournament Policy to include Heroes

    Hopefully one or more of my friends will get an invite to HoTS. I don't enjoy playing MOBAs without them, generally.

    Free to play = content updates for the cash shop. Buy to play = content updates for the cash shop.
    Subscription = Actual content updates!

    Goodluck with that invite. I applied once the website said I could opt in for it. Anyway I did just that. I'm still waiting. While 2 of my mates who won't even play it got invites.. They're inviting people who have literally no interest in their HotS. While genuine players who want to play it still have no invites... I check it every single day in hope I've finally been invited, this was my last hope. Now I've got to wait for the game to release or use my friends accounts. Apparently the more you play blizzard games the higher chance they'll invite you to HotS alpha. I know someone who applied on the BETA website 2 weeks ago and got an invite today.

    I've been opted for the game since it was announced.

    At least the beta and its' founder packs are right around the corner 8)

    I signed up the day the option was made available and am quite happy I haven't got an invite yet.

    Prefer to play it when heroes are balanced and everything is working properly.

    Are keybinds in the game yet? I don't play the typical QWER and it annoys me that you can't change this.

    Would love an invite, have opted in since announced as well. Does anyone know when they will release packs to buy in?

    Another MOBA? how droll.  why is this even on MMORPG? its not mmo, or rpg! Its just a stupid battle arena, been there done that.

    The game is still so boring and bland. You guys who have not been invited yet are not missing anything at all.

    I have found in my lifetime, that the beauty of hating stupid people is, that it crosses all racial boundaries.

    I wonder (and hope!)  whether they plan to go live around the holiday season then. :D

    It's currently one of the only games I'm actually looking forward to.

    It's the last *alpha* phase. You know, there's a beta after that. Maybe both closed and a public one (Blizzard usually only does closed though).

    Sorry you feel that way. On the other hand, i love the game. Lots of team work oriented action in short games. I hope more people can get invited soon. Most of my friends got invites, but a couple are still waiting.

    Woot email said no more wipes too :D  "To help you quickly get back up to speed, we’ll be granting double XP for all games played from now until October 13. Also, there are no more planned wipes, so any XP and gold you earn from this point on will remain in your account for good."

    If you play a lot of blizzard games or did you would have gotten an invite. 

    Not a biggie anyway. By the time I actually get my own account, I would have moved to one of the other upcoming mobas :)

    Why I quit the alpha test:

    It's very frustrating play with a lot of newbies and players who didn't understand the objectives of the game, even being a beta, because you can't archieve the potential you are looking for.

    As a team game, you should test the game thinking this way, but you can't. The majority of beta players are trying "rule them all" alone, chasing personal score or something.

    Sad, because the game have a good potential itself. A new gameplay for a style which is crowded with the same games with different names.
