EA is offering the precursor to next month's Dragon Age: Inquisition for free via the company's game platform, Origin. Players can log in to Origin and pick up a free copy of Bioware's Dragon Age Origins for a total cost of zero.
Dragon Age: Origins introduced gamers to the rich, detailed world of Thedas, a world filled with deadly mages and powerful dragons. The choice-driven RPG has strategic combat and a personalized story, and it’s free right now with Origin On the House! Just add it to your Origin Game Library and download it whenever you want.
You don’t need to log into Dragon Age: Origins to enjoy the single-player quest; if you see any messages asking you to when you start the game, just skip them, and you’ll be good to go! If you have any questions, visit this FAQ.
Dragon Age: Origins is On the House until October 14th, but once you’ve added it to your library, it’s all yours.
Be sure to pre-order the upcoming Dragon Age: Inquisition, available November 18.

There are some that are still modding, in fact Chalseus, who created the NwN Mods Rose of Eternity and Cry the Beloved just released a new entry in that series for DAO.
Too bad I've already have it. Great game, great deal. Also EA offers free Bejeweled 3. I wish I did not get it.... LOL. Darn game sucked me in.
I don't have problem with Origin.

No add-ons or bonuses. I already own DA-O on ps3. Would have been nice for me to at least get to try and see the bonuses or add-ons.
I have never bothered with DLC or bonuses for single player games. I guess I will remain unconvienced.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed DA-O at the time that it came out. I would say though, after playing DA-O more than once, and then playing DA2, I was not really captivated by the environment or area since the context already fell worn out.
Hopefully the customization, progression and even dare I say the story, can make the game fun and interesting. The thing with sequels is that the story and the overall plot is already laid out, and the narrative becomes more about the details. So every conversation becomes that much more important in entertaining rather than the actual story. Games and even movies barely pull this off, and this is why sequels fail if they don't have amazing scripts and characters/
Write bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble
Wow, what a mix-up, "sheesh" (btw not using origin, steam, or even fckbook or other craps are not a way of "sounding elite", just a rational decision)
Steam wasn't hated at launch, it was just an odd and strange option for game purchases (as in "who would buy a mere virtual pass for a game when s/he could buy the game itself on disc, with a box and stuff"), hate came later when it slowly took over everything and became mandatory. Still remember the first time when I found in the slipcase just a piece of paper instead of the discs ("your steam code is blah blah"), it was bad... for the clerk in he store, I mean
I couldn't follow your logic jump to piracy, steam has nothing to do with that, it's only for distributing and tracking. (I haven't heard of a single game yet which you can't find for "free" just because steam protects it. Actually even the thought is lol-worthy.) I agree with "Noone has come up with a reliable solution", partly. True, software defences are easy to bypass, hardware is tougher and more expensive, but still doable. And also protections became more and more of a burden to the valid customers, while pirates laughed their heads off. That brought the only reasonable solution, DRM-free releases (like Witcher, btw CD Projekt is awesome, go bratanki! ). For some extent the f2p model belongs in this category too, not wasting effort on protecting the client since money is coming from later purchases, not from the client selling.
The final lines were the only valid ones Origins is the best one from Dragon Age, I fully agree it's a great game. So why would anyone go with the standard edition? Torvaldr mentioned the steam Ultimate sale, but those who loathes steam too, can find the Ultimate edition for 15-20 bucks on several places. That is almost nothing for the game.
It's a bit strange to see such hype here, on mmorpg.com for a free standard edition (+Origin, yuck), in the very home of "f2p suck, I'd rather pay $15 a month for <anything>" well, then pay for Dragon Age
Origin got a bad rep when it first launched, but it's decent enough now. It's never given me any trouble.
Well worth it for DA:O!

If you dont already own this game then its worth picking up its a great game.
Origin as a game platform still sucks a bit and is qutie expensive but its a lot better than it was and its a free game haha.
Haha Same. Dragon Age is one of my favorite games ever, I ran a play through earlier this year. I really hope Inquisition holds me the same.
It's the first one. (with the Warden)
