Second Class Star Citizens...

For those of you not in the know, Star Citizen is still in beta. It is funded by users buying accounts and in game items, but those who funded the game earlier get bonus items as part of the stretch goals for the game.

BUT, if you got a Star Citizen game package or upgrade as a gift, or if you have given someone a game package as a gift, gift accounts do not get the stretch goal bonuses that other accounts get automatically.

This means every child who got the game from their parents, every friend who got it from another friend, every spouse who got it from their significant other, they are not getting the same game privileges and bonuses that everyone else is getting in the game, even though the same amount of money was paid for their game package.

I think most of us out there did not know this until just now. There was no way to know about it unless you have read every part of the FAQ on the main site. The FAQ is the only place where this rule is mentioned, and unless you had the issue to start with, there is no reason you would look in the FAQs until it was already to late to qualify for backer rewards.

There is no reason to buy any gift packages if the people we give them to are not entitled to the same bonuses that everyone else is getting. Cloud Imperium gets the money either way, so there's also no reason for them to deny the backer bonuses to people who were gifted their package. Gifted accounts should get the same bonuses after the date of activation that any other account activated that date would.

If you got your game package from a gift, then you are a second class star citizen. If you gave someone the game as a gift, all you have done is hurt their chances to get the backer rewards.
I encourage you to contact Cloud Imperium Games, and tell them that gift package backers are still backers!

If you have an account with nothing in it you don't get the additional free backer rewards, unless you buy something.

If you are going to send a ship/package as a gift to someone, you should setup an account for them, then buy the ship on that account. Then give them the account username and password which they can then change. This way they get the backers rewards.

The rewards aren't great anyway, suppose the next reward will be a pet Moth to fly around on the walls of my hangar.
