Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

Why watch TV? What's the point? You could be so much more prodictive!
Why play football? What's the point? You could be so much more prodictive!
Why go to the cimena? What's the point? You could be so much more prodictive!
Why go to a museum? What's the point? You could be so much more prodictive!
It's called entertainment. Not every minute has to be productive, people are allowed to amuse themselves when they don't have to go to work/school.
How they decide to entertain themselves is entirely up to them. If they choose to spend time playing an MMO that's just as valid a choice as doing any of the above.
It's entertainment. What else is there to say? Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean that it's right or wrong. I don't understand people who enjoy wine when there are so many fantastic beers in the world, but who am I to judge?

For me personally, I liked computers, I liked computer games. Particularly fantasy RPG's. When MMO's started it was facinating to think I could play a computer game with other people, far more than I could accomodate in a P&P session of D&D. Unfortunately today that social aspect of MMO's has all but vanished in the never ending quest to placate the casual solo players that make up such a huge % of the market.
So for me it was the social aspect of something (computer games) that used to be limited to 1 or 2 people.
And before you come back with the "real life" social BS, I do have friends, I spend time with them outside of games, going to the pub, watching football, all the usual social stuff "normal" people do. I'm not some basement dwelling freak. Well, I may be a freak but I definately don't dwell in a basement.

What's the point of doing anything besides working, eating, pooping, and sleeping?
If we want to talk about productivity, watching TV, playing sports, playing any video game, visiting museums, going to concerts, going to the movies, none of that is very productive at all.
I can understand, though, if you simply said you don't like MMOs. But then the discussion would probably be very brief. Or it could be like one of those 20 page long troll threads.
people play mmo games for a variety. personally I like watching the crazy people explode. especially on these forums... just give one a little nudge and "BOOM" he explodes, somebody takes it personal and responds, and then we all get to read a 40 page thread full of all sorts of foolishness you can never see in the real world... if someone acted like this in the real world they would get placed in a 72 hour psych eval at their local medical facility...

Or knocked out, since some people like to insult other people's way of play.

I for sure don't play mmorpgs to be productive, of that you can be certain for if that were the case your point would stand.
Personally, I got into mmorpgs (and remain somewhat invested in the genre for hope of) because I want a sortof fictional second life if you will. Not that my real world life is bad, just that a fictional one can offer a variety of interesting and different experiences one does not encounter on a day by day basis. Its the immersion factor that comes with having a large, intricate and persistant world where I can explore and build my character and see new stories and have different adventures that makes me want to play these games.
Unfortunately most modern mmos have kindof drifted away from this idea in favor of more gamey quirks and convenience. Not to say those are bad, but its a different experience than what I am looking for in an MMORPG.
He seems to post a lot of really bipolar topics. He creates topics like this where he says that you can be more productive, and posts that say MMORPG's are just a grind and have no point. Then in another thread he posts saying he was going to play Archeage solo, and offers information for someone to get into the game with their child. So not 100% sure why they post click bait threads like this.
Originally posted by Gorwe I play them because single-player games don't offer the option to chat while playing(yet!). And yes, I know about Diablo narius
That's literally the only reason.
Really? Aside from Diablo, you can chat with players in ANY blizz games (Hearthstone, SC2, HOTS ....) .. heck you can chat ACROSS games.
And you can chat in many FPS shooters. I don't know what you are complaining about?

Why play board games?
Why read books?
Why watch movies?
Why watch or play sports?

But won't it be pointless to answer your question? After all, time spent reading our answers is time you could have spent producing something instead.
Seems like you beat me to it.

This has to be the most obvious troll post ever. Why watch a movie, why listen to music, why post on internet forums when you can be more productive?
I really hope this guy is joking if not he might be the biggest idiot alive.

However when I do want to game, mmo's seem to be the only games that offer excellent ways to connect with other players immediately.
Take an in game city like Stormwind or Orgrimmar. There are people in town just chilling and potentially looking for more people to group with.
Other genres don't offer the ease that mmo's offer.
Don't forget perma-death. The PVP penalty is just way too harsh. Last time I pwned a dude I got almost 2 hours IRL time jail sentence! Luckily I found a spoon and was able to escape

I am already working 40+ hours a week, increasing that wont bring up my productivity at all, just give me a stroke.
I play MMOs and other games to relax. You should try it.
The point? Just like any other form of entertainment ... be have fun and to be entertained.
I am not happy with mmos anymore I think the devs. believe a mmo player wants to do mindless grinding to get somewhere.
very bored with mmos, thank goodness for from soft and the Japanese developers.
they make games challenging and interesting.
