As you might recall last week, I obtained my first real seafaring ship: the clipper. One of ArcheAge’s biggest selling points, at least in my eyes, is the crafting and trade game. There are two ways to go about it too: the safe way where you don’t have to worry about danger (but get less reward), or the dangerous way where you have to go into enemy territory (but the payoff is significantly larger). This past week, I learned the difference between the two the hard way.

"...crafting and trade and PVP elements are so deep and foster such teamwork and interaction - it’s just a good and solid unique MMO experience."
This is exactly my feeling with AA.
Now the negative part, i really hope Trion/XLGames take control of the bots/Hackers soon enouph.
If you're playing Archeage to AVOID the (group) PvP (which seems to be the case at the moment for this reviewer, since he keeps trying to sneak trade packs to their destinations solo), you honestly really should probably just stop now.
Archeage's end game IS PvP. Delivering carts back and forth only lasts so long before you get sick of it, and the PvE is filler at best (and even that might be giving it too much credit). There is literally NOTHING to do later on besides deliver trade packs back and forth, watch grass grow on your farm, PvP, and PvP PvP PvP (be it on the seas, for castles, or for defending and attacking others delivering trade packs. Yea, it's all PvP, but it's a variety of PvP)
If you aren't playing the game with the intent to PvP PvP PvP (in a GROUP) down the line, you really REALLY shouldn't bother.
Unfortunately, the game generally doesn't give you any indication of this until you're finally already there. It starts out seeming like a theme park with some sandbox such as bonus farmvile gameplay and lots of interesting PvP, but that's NOT what it is. It's all PvP (with farmville weaved in to it) and nothing else eventually.
Really? It was pretty obvious from the get-go for me. Hell, even Trion's own website calls it a PVP game. Come level 30, your thrust into danger... unless of course you are on an unbalanced server in which one faction totally outnumbers the other... in which case, it's still PVE land for you folks. I personally wish all zones were marked for war... this rolling PVE characters totally screws up the balance of the server. You're screwing over your faction by hiding in your safe zones while the other faction controls basically the rest of the world. They are worse than AFK peeps... should get booted for the PVE bots they are.
And there it comes, the nice guys... Do you have some frustation in life?

Huh? Your post makes no sense. I do agree that this is easily the worst PvE I've seen in any MMO. Darkfall has much better PvE if that tells you something.
I'm about to the same area Bill is with the game. Still trying to level up. Although I haven't even tried to craft as I don't have any land. Is it possible to gather enough to craft without land?
Level 30 is what I was talking about. I don't consider it "from the get-go". That said, the REALITY of the situation doesn't sink in until later. I still see tons of PvE players in Archeage posting about their Hastla grind for example, but the truth is the Hastla grind is filler at best and is greatly outclassed by crafted gear (which is where the PvP starts to take greater prominence)
Basically, if the PvE is terrible, what's left? Just crafting, trade runs, and PvP. And who plays a game just to craft and run trade runs?
If you play the game with a "Oh, I can keep playing solo as long as I stick to the safe areas" mindset (IE, playing the game to AVOID the PvP), you really need to realize that "running back and forth delivering packs while trying to hide from PvPers" is all you'll be doing all your in-game life (since there is no decent PvE whatsoever), and I highly doubt anyone's going to find that to be very fun for long.
Thanks for the review of the game based the way you play it.
You have the right to chose your way then plz allow others have the same right: playing the game in any possible way, and deliver packs solo in safe zones to archive whatever he wants in-game is a valid option, if player gets bored or not is up to him.
That would be solo vs group (guilds) play equals faster leveling.

Bill, if youve not managed yo get any land yet, theres a big chunk of this game you will be missing for review.
The main thing thats kept me going beyond lvl 30 is tending my farms and breeding animals on it. Its the best part of the game IMO.
Perhaps you should raid the mmorpg.com petty cash tin and go buy yourself a piece of land. It would be unfair to give a final review of this game without having experienced that aspect of the final game.
If someone is talking in general chat in a language you dont understand, chances are they're not talking to you. So chill out and stop bitching about it!
Not everyone is a soldier! That's like saying a Baker is screwing over American by not going overseas to fight.
Now... they could implement some kind of draft system to force players to go fight if they need soldiers during war time haha. That would be interesting... soldier approaches you out of no where "you have just been drafted, come with us".
Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.
My Review Manifesto

ArcheAge is: Bots, cheats, hacks, gold spammers.
Trion / XLGames seems to have wearily accepted that they are powerless to stop them. If something is happening to clear up the mess, it's not getting routinely and well communicated in the officials forums. More often than any positive news, you are more likely to read about a bot still botting away despite multiple reports against him.
If you can live with bots grabbing resource nodes, a screwed-up economy, and constantly blocking spammers, there is an okay game (e.g., trade, crafting, land & housing) buried deep in all this other shit.
You've been warned.
Thanks for the tips i needed them
Really? Do you really play the game with blinders on? Games like this need support people. Ask any guild, they have people who pvp and those that don't and it is usually slanted to the support side. It is a real shame that housing was implemented so poorly. I am of the opinion that Trion is made up of a bunch of gutless wonders because they have done nothing to fix the games issues.
For those of you still attempting to have fun in the game I wish you luck.
I got over 3/4 of the way then a jellyfish one shotted me.
A lesson learned, now making another trade pack
For the Scarecrow quest you don't actually have to go right up to the docks. If you just get into that area then the quest will complete. This helps people who don't want to PVP. BUT You will sometimes find ship blockades that are waiting for you in the ocean.
Best advice is go at 3-5am. :P
Better advice would be to just get a guildmate with a Clipper to drive you, find a generous soul that's going there from the shore already to hitch a ride from, or even pay someone to drive you there as well.*
*Special note: Make sure that the last 2 options are from a guilded person who's in a well known guild that doesn't Bloodlust it's faction.
Perhaps you're wasting too much time with trivial things like work, showeing, and sleep
I see no problem if someone wants to grind hasla or turn in tradepacks at safezones. It's theyre choise.
Obviously ppl are pissed coz they can't steal those packs from lowlvls. I have been doing that and got patron, and loads of apexes , with ingame gold.
Farmin and crafting with small amount of pve is just fine for me. Tho i do pvp in warzones sometimes too .
But i still don't see a point why someone wouldnt just pve in this dx-based farmville
