Wristband to play games

frgreolp1frgreolp1 Member Posts: 5

Hi!

I wanted to ask some advice about a wristband for use with games.

While I was playing COD came to my mind that I would like to play in a different way ... more real.

More precisely, I was thinking of making a wristband that allows me to control the various console, using the bluetooth, using the finger gesture.

What do you think about that?

Developing a technology like that would require some electrical engineering knowledge.

Oh wow, talk about a blast from the past.

I remember wanting one of those things. image

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

guys...I dont think it would require engineering given smart watches.

I think a smart watch that maybe give you your GPS in game would be really clever.

I think interacting with the watch however to be risky because its easier not to. However having a quick place to see critical information like GPS could be really neat.

No..is not like this.....it will be very smaller than power glove....like a wristband or bracelet!! :)

No ty. The Wii U also allows for this type of dual engagement with it's gamepad. Too bad gimmicks are gimmicky, people just want good games.

I think a lot of games could do with some "Second Screen" capabilities.  Put your maps and chat on a smart watch, cell phone or tablet while the game is filling up your monitor "window".

    Very neat looking contraption.

I have to be honest, I wouldn't use it - not because it isn't neat, but I'm lazy and my arms would get tired, since there's nothing pushing back against me to help support my weight (like the steering wheel on the car). That also offers no tactile feedback - your driver may compensate, but when I try to do similar things with like the Kinect, the lack of feedback makes it nearly impossible to perform detailed or subtle movements (yes, kinect motion processor is pretty horrible, but even apart from that) - it's all or nothing because there isn't any tactile feedback to tell you how it's going, just the visual on the screen, so everything degrades to big sweeping motions.

For what it's worth, I also poo-poo on the Occulus Rift, and a lot of people here thing it's the next coming of Jesus. So you are in good company. I bet this would work awesome with that though, one of the big complaints I see is that using a controller interface kills some of the immersion.

    ^ This

I have two Kinects and a Wii gathering dust.  Even the kids don't want to use them.  They tell me they prefer games that use the controller.

I always thought I would love a game were you used your hands and arms to perform a spell casting action, or a game where you used a fake sword and how you swung it would affect your hit and damage... then the Kinect came out and I realized I was too lazy to play that way.

I also agree that I think the Occulus will gather dust in most homes...

There is probably a market for stuff like this.  But overall we gamers are much lazier than we like to think....

Ohhhhhhh, I see. So this is really just an advertisement in disguise. First you're asking for feedback on an idea and then POOF!! a fully-developed product pops out. Why not just lead with that instead? Why the deception?
