Any word on a free trial???

ElnatorElnator Member Posts: 6,077

I played AC1 waaaay back when it first came out. I didn't like it then and the problems I had with it were pretty core to the game back then. I'm not willing to try it again without a free trial. I'm happy in DAOC but every now and then I *wonder* what AC1 is like because I really liked the skill based system and I miss that now that SWG is gone.

But... without a free trial I will never come back. I don't ever buy a game without trying it retail. Matter of fact... AC1 is the MMO that caused me to start following that rule.

I have no idea what they did with their free trial. Back when they first aquired the rights back from Microsoft they had a trial with download. I think it changed to a $19.99 purchase if you used it past it's trial. It's been a while so I am a bit fuzzy on the details.

The good news is that if you did have an account with them it's real easy to reactivate. I just went to the billing page, put in my old username and password and it came up with my expired account. I hit reactivate and I was up and running.

You can download the whole game from the download section of their website. It's called "Graphics Update" but it is the complete client up to the latest expansion.

    Let me be very clear:
I do not want to re-activate. I don't want to PAY to try the game again. If I wanted to pay I'd just reactivate and try it. I want a free trial to see if it's WORTH paying for.

Sounds cheap, I know. But I'm not into rewarding game companies with my money unless I feel they deserve it. I never try anything blind anymore.

Your posts are always so hostile towards the game, I doubt anything will change your mind. You say that you are a DAOC player. Here is a summary of the differences between the games. DAOC feels like prison, AC feels like freedom. If you don't like freedom, don't try the game.

How is my post hostile towards the game?  I asked if there's a free trial.

My posts are sometimes hostile towards people who lack reading comprehension, sure, because I have a low tolerance for stupidity.  I clearly stated I was looking for a free trial and the first advice I get is to re-activate or, hey, you can buy the game.  That is NOT what I asked for, thus my response was a bit ahh... harsh.

As far as the GAME is concerned I played it in beta and for a bit at release and didn't like many core features.  How is that hostile?  I've stated regarding MULTIPLE games, not just this one, that I won't PAY to try them.  I wait for free trials or play on a friend's account to decide if I'm willing to pay for them.

Unlike some people I refuse to reward game companies with my credit information for games that are sub-par.  That's why I insist on a free trial.

If, after playing a free trial, I find that I enjoy AC I *may* keep playing it as a 2nd game to DAOC.   I'm not really shopping for a new home.  I enjoy DAOC a lot.  But I would like to SEE the changes in AC but am not willing to pay to do so.  If they want my business they need to show me what I'm getting first.  My days of buying MMO's blind ended long long ago.

You could of course, oh I don't know check the website? Is there a free trial?

Just out of curiosity what exactly was the "core" of the game you didn't like?
