Gamers Gate gets attention, but raising 20 million dollars for charity in 3 days does not.

What is wrong in this world? People flaming each other reaches big websites and gets a lot of traffic and threads.

But have you read or seen anything about the gaming community raising 20 million dollars for charity in the last three days?

No you have not, or most of you at least. Unless you go out of your way and search for the specific term of the movement, or the guy that is popular to hate that is behind it and has set it up.

So why do you guys think that raising 20 million dollars, an effort of hundreds of streamers goes under the radar of most gaming websites and even "normal" news sites. If Will Smith donated 20 million dollars to a charity it would of been all over the place.

Also this charity, gets backed by US Aid, which for every dollar a person donates US Aid amp it up by 16. The charity organization is Save The Children.

So why is it that our, our community, our websites and our forums does not report on this?

maybe because it's not about gaming, this is a gaming site, and we are here to read and chat about gaming.

just an idea tho, not sure :)

So gamers flaming each others are on topic. But not gamers doing something for a good cause?

And I am not talking about this site , more of a general public wibe.

Don't worry, neither of those subjects have garnered my attention, but gamers flaming each other, always a classic here at MMORPG.com

Correct. All of us here are too busy ranting and hating on games and each other and just don't have time to ramp up the hysteria on other topics outside of gaming right now.

Maybe  this will then, it's the reality. Closing our eyes won't make it go away. Imagine the media attention something like that would get if it was a blonde white child...

But, hey. Lets keep paying 800 dollars for pixel space ships.

I agree with the op to an extant, seems like they leave the good news on the editing table.

Extra Life is only 7 days away !!!!

It is one of the best examples I can think of when you want to discuss Gamers and Good Causes at the same time.

I participate each year and Extra Life raises millions of dollars to help sick children all over.  It gives Gamers a chance to do something positive and have fun doing it.

For anyone who isn't familiar with Extra Life please check them out using this link --->>> Extra Life 2014 .

With that said, I amgoing to add my shamless plug here and ask that you click  and check out  ------> My Extra Life Page if you want to get involved or have the ability to make a small donation for a great cause.

"People flaming each other".  That statement right there shows that you really don't understand what the GG thing is about to begin with, despite it being part and parcel of the answer to why all the money raised is a blip on the radar.

It portrays gamers in a good light, and that's not allowed anymore.

I really hope you feel bad after reading this, because you really deserve to.

PS: I'm much better than all of you, just figured I'd let you know.

I think that's what you really meant to say, right?

Also, as pointed out by others, it's a gaming website - not an actual news website. And I suspect that only the really big charity organizations ever get some spotlight even on those actual news sites.

Mmorpg.com is more than right in not filling their page with that stuff, as no one comes here for that.

Want to promote some charity? Do it in the offtopic section or something, I don't think there's actually any rules against that.

This. Especially on the internet  Sad fact is most people online (including self described "journalists") care far more about stirring up a stupid controversy to get people all riled up and generate page or video views than inform people of a positive but uncontroversial story. Sad but true.

I think you've got a lot of nerve coming in here calling everyone a racist that doesn't cowtow to your charity of choice.

What? You really need to learn what the word racist means. I know it's trendy to throw it about, but nothing about his statement was racist. He was simply pointing out that certain things garner more attention by their very nature and what the media thinks plays into the public's discomfort and fears best. No one reports news anymore. They report "spin".

The rest of your post is irrelevant and unnecessary to this conversation. If you just needed to get something of your chest, you should have submitted a comment to a news story that was actually tackling the issue of racism.

As far as I'm concerned, your post was designed to get other's riled up here and should be considered trolling. If there are any sanctions from mods due to the posts in this thread, you should be one of them.

They don't need white people to dislike them at all, they do a fine job themselves of drawing lines in the sand and harboring segregation rules. There are plenty of places white folk aren't welcome.

"Quit complaining about racism. At least most of us ain't hunting you down in the streets. That would be real racism." Classic. Ever drawn a link between people living in violent ghettos and their economic situation caused at least in part by not having the same opportunities in life that you do? Think about it please.
