who else loves these to be in an MMORPG?
i loved rocking out in AC2 and SWG. in fact i think rocking out was my favorite thing to do in SWG, which is why I only played it a month. i would often climb the tallest mountain i could find in AC2 just to rock out on the top.
i wanna see some more options for it one day though. like actually picking notes to play on a global tempo. maybe even a sequencer.

It's an excellent roleplay tool, in any type of MMORPG. With the depth Simu has shown in previous games, it's a definite possibility - if not at launch, then down the road. I have yet to hear any music samples from the game, but I believe I read it would be very race-oriented in nature.
The only problem with AC2's player-driven music (that I saw while I was there), was that it was fairly "cookie-cutter" in nature. Not that many truly different styles could come from it. It was all generally upbeat stuff. Granted the tempo changed slightly, but they only had "fast" or "slow". More types and flavors would have been nice.
not only instruments, but even just little bits of flavor, like books, or a whet stone to sharpen your sword with, or the ability to play a really cheap version of chess against a friend in game when you're sitting at the inn.
fluf is good!
Speaking as a 9 year veteran of playing Gemstone. One thing you can probably count on the devs working into the game is plenty of Fluff. Fluff is a great aid to roleplaying, and Simu likes to make sure people can roleplay if they want to. As I'm only a builder I don't have the ability to make any fluff things, but I've built some fluff-like spots that I can't wait to see used by someone other then my fellow GMs.

Greetings Adventurers!
As a bard of many worlds, I am as interested as you are in seeing playable instruments. One of my fondest memories in DragonRealms is the bardic competitions, and I look forward to seeing some player-run competitions in HJ as well.
Until then, play with feeling!

Hell, i'd be happy if we could even just sit in chairs. As simple as this seems, very few MMORPGs program it in. :P

All I want is a true /airguitar emote and I'd be eternally happy.
No, not Guild Wars airguitar emote style,
I'm talking Randy Rhodes air guitar style!!
*flails around the room flicking his tongue out and maneuvering hot lix!*

Oh. My. God.
You'll notice way back in screenshot 89 there is a man sitting in a chair. Yes you shall have your chairs. Because we're all about teasing you people. Remember, not everyone thinks about what constitutes a chair in the same way.

I am, and have been, for a VERY long time an Ozzy fan. Randy Rhodes was one of the best that ever played IMHO.
Despite my love of all thing Ozzy, I have no idea how this would fit into HJ.
Sir Robyn's minstrels would be more fitting... but that is just not the same.

I was thinking earlier that it would be really cool if when instruments are played it's like a mini game of sorts, like they have to play the game with their keyboard or something and different songs will have different notes, and the higher skill they have in either the instrument or however it works, the harder the games are.. But once they master a game, they can play that song whenever they want to without having to go through the game..
while they're doing the game, if they mess up it will actually sound like they messed up, so people who have a lot of trouble with it, will actually sound really bad.. Instead of all music being generic...
And maybe really high level bards or really skilled bards can actually write their own music, of course only the good ones would be kept around, but they could give or sell their music to whoever would want it.. There would just be an auto credit given when they play..
like: "this song was written by so-and-so, and given to me for blah blah reason" then *play*

Bravely bold Sir Robin,
Rode forth from Camelot.
He was not afraid to die.
Oh brave Sir Robin.
He was not at at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways.
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin.
He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp
And have his eyes gouged out and his elbows broken;
To have his kneecaps split and his body burned away
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin.
His head smashed in,
And his heart gouged out,
And his liver removed,
And his bowels unplugged,
And...
Yeah, instruments would be great. I mean, it only makes sense that a bard should have an instrument, and if he can use it for magic, then surely he can play a song or two.

So you're suggesting something like
Guitar Hero on the PS2? It's basically a rythym/pattern matching game similar to DDR but if you mess up the pattern the guitar track cuts out until you get back in sync.
I'm not sure how feasible something like that is but it's at least an interesting idea.
