MMO with real money economy players?

alex_aleexalex_aleex Member Posts: 1

Hello,

I'm wondering whether there are any real economy MMO players around here.

Initially I was planning to start a real life business, and saved up some money, but still have insufficient capital.

So until then I'm thinking to have some fun and invest a few thousands in real economy online games. I've tried SL years ago and didn't like it much.

Now I'm hearing about Planet Calypso, Market Glory, Golden Towns, etc.

Anyone that plays kind to share some insight? Interested mostly on how profitable they are, starting up with a decent deposit.

Thanks,

Alex

Like any good gambling establishment, in most of those titles there will be a few winners if they are very lucky or good, otherwise for most players the house always wins in the end.

You would be better off investing in penny stocks. Save your money, talk to a financial adviser and when the time is right open that business.

I've hear of Entropia, but not sure if it is successful or not.

Project Entropia (Planet Calypso on your list) is your best bet. It's very difficult to learn the ropes well enough to where you can make money at it, but if you want to make money at EU, avoid:

    Hunting

Mining (Possibly profitable with enough skill and add-ons to prevent claim radius overlap. It's complicated.)

    Crafting

    Lootable PvP without informants

These are the four main advertised ways to play EU, but don't let that get to your head. There are some profitable things you can do.

    Auction Resale

    Uber Item Reselling

Running a Shop (You can sell items for a higher rate at your shop and sell shop space to other players. Takes a lot of dedication)

Service (Space taxi motherships, for example.)

Investing (Calypso Land Deeds and other items will give you a 20-40 cent return every week off of 100-130 dollars spent on the deed, not sure on the price. Might be better deeds now.)

Expect returns of 0.5-5% weekly on what you invest with these methods if you are actively playing the game and know the game -very- well. You will have losses if you try to invest in anything but deeds without having a lot of experience playing and utilizing the market.

All of these things take research, and an intimate understanding of the market. If you can predict in-game market shifts like the real world, you can make a buck. I had 4100 PED  (410$) off of my 600 PED investment (60$) after playing for six months and being highly frugal while tackling the 'free' methods to make PED I haven't mentioned.

I haven't played EU in awhile and I have cashed + chipped out, but I have an alt  with decent skills and some small funds left over - I can assist you if you throw me a PM here on the forums wanting to give it a try. As a warning, you can't really get rich off of EU because it's run like a casino. Better stick to start-ups IRL. Put that few thousand into a creative kickstarter idea, get it funded, and run a business!

Heading to sleep. 3:20 AM for me as of this posting.
