As far as tab target systems go I found it to be quite good.

I agree that this game would not be fun without land. For me, a huge part of what I like is crafting and trading. But that's only "half" of the game for me. There is other stuff that people haven't mentioned in this thread beyond the pve and pvp on land. For example, I've had a lot of fun with my guild on trade runs to Friedich Island, to warring with pirates and PKs. My guild is anti-pirate/same faction killers. We do coast guard missions to seek and destroy pirates in with our guild galleon. Pirate guilds also have galleons, so it can lead to naval warfare. I think those are some cool features.
In addition, there are some rudimentary guild politics. There is a world that players influence events in. I'm not saying it's a full sandbox or anything. There were some cool things like that in other games, but it's pretty rare these days. They are additional options to farming, grinding Hasla for your weapons, or pvp on the continent.

Me too. I have no problem with that type of system if it works best with it.

I am confused why a player that hates tab targeting even started this game... Just to have something to complain about here maybe. I don't know.
AA never hid what it was, the information was out there. I have to blame the user, not the game.
I personally really like tab target games, and, yeah, AA does it very well.
Because I don't have time to lurk here in these forums any more. But since there is maintenance right now, I will write this.
ArcheAge really took me by surprise. I haven't been hooked on a game like this since I first played WoW back in 2007. I think about this game all the time when I'm not playing. I mean, I still take care of personal hygiene, work, and important relationships, but other than that, it's AA.
This game surprised me because I was having a lot of fun with the game I was just playing before (with a really great guild that I really like that didn't want to move to AA), because I hated the character models and art style, because there are cars and bikinis, because of tab targeting, etc. Seriously, I just wrote this game off when the car/bikini video came out.
I'm not saying there are no problems and I'm not going to get into any particulars. I just love the open world. I love that there is so much stuff to do. There is farming, crafting, fishing, exploring, pvp, pve...combat, non-combat, safe zones, dangerous zones, so much stuff!
And I feel like I've just scratched the surface. There is so much to learn.
However, my experience totally changed because I got land. I played on one of the original NA servers and I was a noob and had no idea of what to do. I was locked out of land, so all I did was pve and quest. I think the entire 1-50 leveling experience is a tutorial. There is that much to learn. If you don't like it, you won't like this game. I re-rolled on Calliel, one of the last new NA servers, and I knew what I had to do. I got land where I wanted it, and the experience has been entirely different for me.
This game is different. I don't feel like it's doomed. That's the first time I've felt this way about a new release since 2008. That's a long time in this business. And this game WILL have a huge impact on mmorpgs from here on out. AA is a game changer.
As long as you have land, of course.
I agree OP. I don't think i've been 'addicted' to an MMO like I am to AA since SWG and of course EQ.
I also do not yet have land. I was not a founder and simply got in too late. However, I choose, unlike most people, not to sit and cry all day and instead take the challenge head on to either find land expiring (to try to get lucky and grab) or earn the money to buy some land from the people who have snatched em up. Because to be honest, most land anymore (on my server) is not owned by bots, but rather by players being "real estate agents" or "flippers". It's just a new dynamic to the game.
If I want a world in which people can purchase success and power with cash, I'll play Real Life. Keep Virtual Worlds Virtual!
Idk, maybe because I played Wushu for about a year and a half. I made it to level 11. AA felt like a more restrictive, older version of Wushu. On top of that, AA's cash shop is even more influential than Wushu's, and that's saying a lot.
Who know's I could get the urge one late Thursday night, and AA could pull me in. I just don't have the desire to log back in at this point in time.

Yeah I know the feeling. The game just feels like one never ending tutorial that clutches at you like an overly attached girlfriend meme. I'm still going to hang on until 50th just to see if it really does get better. However I wanted to ask since I never got into Age of Wushu do you think it's still worth playing now? Because if AA washes out it might be my next port of call.

As a fresh player, yeah it might still be fun. Find the newest server with the best population and have at.

I don't have land, and I'm loving the game. Spent my time farming, building a ship, farm cart, etc.
When the time comes, land will be available and I will get it. I already have the design, wood, and stone at the ready.
For me, I just could not get into AA. I think it was a combination of the combat and just the overall feel.... cant quite place it but it never really grabbed me.
I did enjoy the sailing aspect tho but that was not enough to hold me over. I will give it another couple of months then probably give it another shot.
I will say that i am back in ESO after leaving early after launch and having a blast!
Have tested this up to lvl 11 and it feels ok. Some of my guldies loves it so Im gonna give it another try on their server. Will by fun with the Pvp ganking
But now its farming for legendary cloaks on my wow alts before its to late.
I agree that this game would not be fun without land.
Actually it is land OR fishing.
A lot of people who play AA I think don't realise that if you don't get land at the moment, you would want to do sports fishing. Sports fishing will also open up a whole different leveling and economy path for you - and the investment cost into fishing is a hell of a lot cheaper than farming but gives A LOT more xp in comparison - 5k XP a bait taken (per bait taken, as in REGARDLESS of whether you actually get the fish or not).
So join a pug fishing raid (or fish at a fish spawn in one of them inland lakes if you can't find one - of course the fishes pays a lot less but the XPs you get are around the same).
I agree with OP. This is the first time I am hooked on a game the way I was hooked on WoW The Burning Crusade back in January 2007. Since, WoW lost its' shine for me after the Wrath expansion I've been looking for the next MMO that will make me feel the same way. I tried many over years but AA is the first one that made me feel like I finally found it. Of course it's too early to tell, but so far so good.
At its' core it is a great game with lots and lots to do. Open and seamless world, crafting, exploring, owning farms and houses which are part of the persistent world not instances, fishing, treasure hunting, trading, PvP, PvE and more. So far it's been great. I don't worry too much about problems like bots and hacks. These are issues that can be fixed over time. I think what matters is AA is the right kind of MMORPG world where it feels like a world instead of a lobby game or a single player game inside a MMO world.
I think AA can become big if the devs manage it the right way.

No rush, too much to do to worry about land.
