Trove: Open Beta Launches

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Players looking for a new multiplayer building experience will want to check out Trion's Trove which has entered its open beta stage of development. Players are invited to download Trion's "Glyph" platform and give Trove a try.

Community created content provides the magic in this voxel universe, where Trovians unite to make use of the humble cube to explore, craft, and create anything they see fit. Gamers can play as a Knight, Gunslinger, Fae Trickster, Neon Ninja, Dracolyte, and - coming very soon - a Candy Barbarian to journey through a multitude of dungeons, gather up that loot, and create new powerful items.

Check out the Trove site.

After seeing Trion's true colors, I'm not even going to look at this game.

Enlighten us as to what Trion's "True Colors" are. I'd be interested to hear about it.

Trove will have to compete with so many voxel based mmos that are popping up; Landmark and Oort are definely looking promising. Building in Trove is very limited and basicly all I did ingame was levelling my characters and completing my collections of armor, weapons, hats and recipes. No real endgame. Maybe the shadow portals, but hey you buy a key in the cashshop and you do not have to work to collect enough materials to create one.

Trove offered me a few hours of fun. Gameplay is thin and endgame is shallow. Do not know how Trion can persuade me to login back.

Hes regarding the latest patch for archeage which essentially let 10%?? Of the player base login and claim land and get a whole 24hrs headstart of everyone else while the redt of us waited for word on when it would be fixed.

Im still going to be giving trove a try but archeage devs are corrupt

Trove is so vastly different from Landmark they are hardly competition. In fact Trove is pretty different from any MMO out there and I highly recommend everyone to give it a shot.

I don't think it's a "corrupt" developer, it's an issue with their infrastructure. Basically, they didn't learn their lesson from their initial land release. It's actually a little sad. They had a chance to redeem themselves but, instead, they end up with the same problems and, probably, the same people claiming all the land. It's the people who are logged on 24/7.

Also, just to be clear, Trion isn't the developer on the game. Unfortunately, they're just along for the ride. They can put pressure on XL Games to change things, but apart from dropping the license, there's really nothing they can physically do about it. I'm sure there is complaining going on between Trion and XL Games because, ultimately, they aren't going to make their money back if it continues like this.

Also, it should be noted that both Rift and Trove operate on noticeably different revenue models which are more indicative of what Trion WANTS to do, I think.

Here's my problem with this game.

Unlike typical ARPGs, you can run around for literally 15-25 minutes before running into 1 stage to clear for EXP. Killing regular monsters that aren't involved in some sort of stage with bosses is 100% worthless.

The game is meant to be played like a zerg, if you run around with a group of 10-20 going from area to area it can be fun for a bit because everything is getting owned, but once you try playing solo, you'll never want to play again.

When all is said and done, more is always said than done.

Well after the death of Cubeworld, this game is the best option.

This seriously bugs me every time I see it.  No one takes the time to do the research and realize that Trion DID NOT develop ArcheAge, despite what all you ArcheAge crybabies say.  They are the publisher.  They have limited authority to make changes to the game on a fundamental level.  They can make suggestions to XL Games to make updates, but Trion essentially gets to set cash-shop prices and keep the game translated.  That's it.  All Major decisions regarding the game are in the hands of XL Games - an Eastern company with Eastern gaming values.

Now, did Trion fuck some stuff up? Like the Archeum Founder's Pack vs the same priced item that gives you so much more? Yes - marketing wise it was a fuck up, but the faults of ArcheAge are on XL Games, not Trion.

In before fanboi comment:  I don't play any Trion game, though trove does look interesting.

So how does South Korean XL Games Archeage Devs have anything to do with Trove, it is amazing how many people forget Trion only handle the account side of things for Archeage while XL Games still do the dev work.

    Loving Trove.

I didn't think I would like it, but I was wrong. It's very addictive.

It's the standard, Trion screwed me once, therefore everything that they do is evil.  Given that every games screws people over in one respect or another, eventually you will have banned every developer on the planet, following that logic.

The parts marked in red are not true. I've leveled my gunslinger from 1-12 by only killing lone mobs in the first zone(looking for uncommon styles) and I've grouped with other players only a few times for dungeons but prefer to play solo. I constantly change/improve my cornerstone, farm mats/styles, build my club world, and I do this all by myself. Just because the game is like that for you doesn't mean it's the same for everyone so please don't spread false information.

Having played both since they were in very early alpha, I can say this ^ is a true statement.

Say what? I've never played Trove any way but solo, and it's a lot of fun.

With all due respect, maybe it is best to check out the game and who is making it.  The land isn't like AA, everyone can have their own little house and also club worlds.

    Take care..
