On the one hand    : too early. Could  use more time for polishing and testing.

I didn't realise that there was so little interest in E:D on this site.

This is the most significant piece of news regarding E:D this year, and 4 people comment ?

    Lol...

    Looks cool.

Havent had my eyes on it at all.

There are two games like this coming out.. correct?

    This one and star citizen?

    Are they similar games?

SC and E:D are similar in that they're both set in space and will feature spaceship combat (amongst many other things).

However, E:D is launching in 5 weeks' time, whereas SC is still in early alpha and will most likely only launch in 2016. I will play E:D until SC launches, then I'll decide which one keeps my attention in the long term image

At last no more wipes :D

It'll be interesting to see what features they've been hiding for release.

Also they aren't stopping development just because they're launching, they already have a lot of stuff they want to add to the released game.

    ..Cake..

There's one more wipe (22 November) before the start of "gamma", isn't there ?

As I understand it, the time from 22 November to 16 December is essentially Early Access (i.e. no wipe at launch), but you can only get into that by buying the expensive version of the game before 22 November. Then the doors are locked and anyone not inside has to wait until 16 December. So no pressure there, lol

There's always a risk with introducing a whole load of untested features for the first time when you're only a month away from launch. I'd be inclined to think that gamma is not going to be very different from what we see in Beta 3, other than expanding the volume of accessible space.

You sure about that there will be no wipe after nov 22th?

  • They are hoping they won't have to wipe when Gamma ends on December 16th, but have said there could be technical issues such as an exploit that may mean they will wipe anyway. But their current plan is not to wipe progress made during the Gamma.

FD are pushing hard to convert straight pre-orders to beta-access copies. Only players with beta-access will get the early access (Preview) from the 22nd November. They want the extra cash.

Additionally, the sooner they give players the assurance that there will be no further wipes, the sooner the players will start playing the game "for reals". That will most likely include spending money on cosmetics in the Cash Shop. There may even be "new items" added to the Cash Shop with the start of Preview on the 22nd November.

So a wipe after the 22nd will be highly unlikely, given that it may require refunds of Cash Shop spending.

So i played the beta for few days and the novelty of docking / undocking..sell / buy rinse and repeat wore off pretty fast.

    Am i the only one?

  • volttvoltt Member UncommonPosts: 432
game looks interesting but i think the price tag is a little steep
  • The skins bought through the cash shops are not affected by wipes. Gamma is not exclusive to Beta testers but will be available for all backer tiers which include a digital copy of the game.

I'm just waiting for the game to go LIVE..
  • Lonecrow66Lonecrow66 Member Posts: 31

It gets boring very fast.  No content to speak of.  Its just an open world where you can trade make money buy ships and repeat.  Epxloring consists of pressing a button and discovering all the planets in the system.  Quite mundane.  After you've docked your 1000th time it gets old.

Not to mention they didn't meet 50% of the features they set out to put into the game.  Its quite sad.

Its pretty much all eye candy and no substance.

It's a dream game for PVErs and RPers i would fancy (one all functionality is live, not just beta)

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

That's what ALL Elite games has always been.

In fact, that's the whole point of this entire genre (which was created by the original Elite to start off with by the way).

All space opera/sim games are like that (Privateer series, X series, etc).

I think they are releasing the space part (the main part) now and the rest later, which is way better value for money compare to what you get for Star Citizen.

I am an Alpha backer and very disappoint with the way ED lead as promised. We thought as Mr Braben had fondly spoken about seamless world or universe, but it is not what they says. It is indeed another instances loading please wait instance zones the like of entering from warp speed to space station etc.

Not happy at all, the search for seamless space sim for superfast PC continued.

Come back and troll after the game launches.  Then you can complain about how they don't have 50% of the features, although you would be wrong as the game already has more than 50% of them, and that's assuming no more are added.

The game costs $50 and $60 if you purchase it after the 22, kinda normal for a game.

Supercruise is an awesome idea, but at least right now it works very badly when you come out of it. It looks seamless until you want to exit, but then it stalls for a while and suddenly your position glitches and you find yourself right next to a station or inside an asteroid field with no explanation. It's very jarring and something I hope they fix before release. In Frontier it was completely seamless with no glitchy teleporting or loading.

It is not a glitches, it is neither seamless, it is instance zones. Supercruise, Warp Speed, HyperDrive or whatever they shall called it is still cheap ass instance loading please wait zoning which is good for consoles or slow computer with old slow HDD drive. FD is full of fraud, if Mr Braben talked about seamless, then where the hell are they?. Also I want you all to imagine way back in 1985 Elite cassette must be insert and loading every damn space station you visit... har har har, what a joke. [mod edit]
