Can anyone wake up SOE please?

LonzoLonzo Member UncommonPosts: 294
Seriously, what are they doing? It is about time that SOE wakes up and push the MMO-business forward. It seems like ages since they came up with something exciting for us MMO-lovers.

    H1Z1 is receiving some hype....

EQ1 and EQ2 are still alive an kicking (15 and 10 years running?)

Landmark is a nice bonus project.

EQ Next is being developed as we speak.

Have seen a lot of games popping up and crashing hard. Better tell the competition to step up. Only Blizzard looked what SOE did and made/copy a decent success with WoW.

What's Minecraft then? Or Trove? Or Oort? Landmark will be a full game. Will not say it will rock (or not), but making up your mind based a closed beta when not all features are put in yet......

    Why look to SOE?

They are a corporation, and have to everything by committee. Such a process is unlikely to really advance things much. Why not look to all the indy devs out there? Repopulation, Project Gorgon, Ascent, and more. This is the age of the Indy MMO, where the creativity of one man or woman, or perhaps a small team, can go far beyond what was once possible. Give the indy devs your support, and then they can afford fancy art and polish.

You're half-right. Landmark is the building block / test client for what will be EQ Next. But what these two games / clients are trying to accomplish hasn't really been done before. Or at least not as an MMO. It's ambitious, and will take time.

Take a look at the games SOE has made over the years. Most of them are fairly unique titles if not pioneers. Heck, their most famous game (Everquest) provided the blueprint for which WoW copied and become a success.

If there is a problem to bring up about SOE, it wouldn't be with their ability to innovate or make quality games. It would be with their ability to then ruin those games with questionable business models / practices.

Landmark is a game with as yet 'undetermined' status, maybe it is a stepping stone for EQN, in a way, can only hope not, because its really not that good, and the graphics 'aesthetic' is also of limited interest, i think Wildstars ultimate failure is probably the biggest indictment on that kind of aesthetic. As for Everquest, i think whats also telling is that Blizzard were able to improve upon it, and create a game enjoyed by millions, still, and yet SOE were unable to do the same themselves with EQ2, ultimately that was also a game that failed, tried to reinvent itself, several times, and still managed to fail, it certainly didn't become a successful evolution of the original Everquest, and given SOE's history, i doubt whether EQN will either. On the other hand, Planetside 2 is a relatively successful game, perhaps SOE's future just isn't in the fantasy MMO genre anymore.

But i do tend to agree that SOE is in desperate need of some industrial grade Coffee image

sony does have some financial problems at the moment. not sony online entertainment in specific, but the mothership. to avoid further losses the company announced a huge restructuring over the next year(s). and this can effect all branches of sony. maybe soe will not affected by it, maybe we will never see eq next ....

I'm sure once Sony has a year where they don't lose $500m-$1B they may put more resources into mmos.  But by the looks of it that may be a long ways down the road.

Of all the Sony assets. SOE is on the back=burner. Having the best gaming system on the market does that. Especially with huge success of its third party gaming companies bringing in huge profits for Sony(Destiny, Call of Duty). I am surprised SOE is still somewhat funded. Considering its small niche of the market. The PSIV is Sony's money cow. It is better than most PC's on the market and Sony knows it.

We will continue to see SOE on a slow progression format. At least until some of SOE games can fully be implimented onto the PSIV.

Some of what you said is true...but the PS4 is no where near better than most PC's that people play video games on...and Sony and everyone one who is not a console fanboi knows that.

Even though some like you think the PS4 will be the savior of Sony the truth is Sony has a much bigger problem than PS4 can save.  They went from projecting a loss of 544 million to now projecting 2.1 BILLION.  If I was a PS4 fanboi like yourself Id be just hoping Sony will be around to finish this console generation.

The difference , scripters, coders, hackers for one. While a PC may have better capabilities. Most gamers want a flawless gaming experience with a gaming title. Which is what PS4 and Xbox One offers players. Besides, show me a 400 dollar PC that beats out a PS4 capability wise. Why pay 600-1200 dollars for a equal gaming experience that the PS4 offers. That is not counting PC compatibility or patches.

So, yes, the PS4 is much better at what it does compared to a PC. The only thing PC's have a one up on is  "STEAM".

As to Sony losing that much money. I would expect SOE to be even more on the back burner than its other options. Surprised it is still around. Also so you know, the 2.1 billion dollar loss is due to Sonys television and smart mobile device. Sonys gaming division is why Sony will recover. As ther PS4 beats out its competitors. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-09-17/sony-forecasts-wider-full-year-loss-on-smartphone-competition.html

A top of the line PC is obsolete in one year.  You can upgrade PC's you can't upgrade the ps4 or xb1.  That is a HUGE ONE UP on the consoles.   I own both a console and a PC my PC is four years old and would destroy the consoles if you combined both of their specs. But I would never proclaim my PC is better than the consoles I enjoy them both for what they are good at.  Sorry it's laughable you are trying to say the ps4 is better than most PC's lol.  You are trying way to hard to justify your purchase my friend.

I prefer my gaming experience on the PS4 much more than my PC is all. I am not alone. As Sony's profitable side comes from the PS4. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-09-17/sony-forecasts-wider-full-year-loss-on-smartphone-competition.html

Hey I play mmos on the PC everything else on the xb1.  I was only pointing out just because you enjoy the PS4 doesn't mean it's "better than most PC's" because it's not.  Google $400 pc there are plenty of PC's you can buy today for $400 and be as good or beat the ps4.  Like I said my four year old pc would destroy your ps4 and my xb1 combined.  There just is no need to pump up something with inaccurate comments.

Sure on paper the ps4 is better than my xb1.  Do I care I get a few games that aren't native 1080 on the xb1?  No I don't play it next to a ps4 So I can pause them pull out a microscope and see the jagged edges.  I am 10- 15ft away on a 65'in TV with surround sound blaring.  If I cared that much about a jagged shawdow Id be on my PC.

Yeah even with those "profits" they still are going to lose 2.1 BILLION this year.  Like I said better hope Sony is around to finish out this consoles generation.  I actually hope they can pull it off because to me competition is a good thing.  It would be bad for both consoles if somehow one left the area.

Yes, I'd rather they take their time and proceed cautiously and professionally. Learn the lesson from ESOs disastrous rushed release (and every content patch for that matter).
