there's not much competition
both EQ1 and EQ2 do annual expansions in the fall
-- something that Blizzard may also do someday
EQ2 fan sites
I used to play EQ2, subscriber & as free, & thought it had a far superior in-game system for many of the online gaming facets. A good mixture of realistic meshed with fantasy too. One day, years ago another player gifted me a house when I was a free player & helped mentor me while I relearned. So after a couple of months I wanted to return the kindness, purchased an item I remembered the player had stated they liked from the item shop knowing I would have to subscribe to be able to gift it to them via mail so I did. Then after not being able to do so I filed a ticket in which I got a response of I have to be subscribed for 31 days to be able to gift items via mail. I discussed the situation with the CSR & my intent, but they didn't care. I learned with EQ1 Sony has a certain deft ear upon matters & I relearned it with that situation. That right there determined me not playing EQ2 much & only as a free player & not investing $ into it anymore nor have I since. I'd probably still enjoy the game if I went back to it, but why reward piss poor customer service. Besides beginning from scratch now would probably be overwhelming & too steep of a grind.
Despite the negative lingering memory of that EQ2 experience I still thought it was a well balanced good fun game.
Also, damn shame they killed off Vanguard, I had played that & invested $ into that too. A shame they didn't offer a little perk to those that played that game for another game of the All Access.
H1Z1 I hope turns out well. It looks promising, but probably still far away. I still have SC horded so have to use it up on a Sony game eventually LOL.
My experience with SoE customer support, including the EQ2 branch, was really positive.
I got hacked once, lost all of my items and my character. Everything was returned in a couple of days and the CS was really nice about it.
I also did two character transfers that didn't go through the automatic system, but through the customer service instead - also quite swift and efficient service there.
Obviously it isn't perfect, as you had a negative experience. That said, maybe you were unlucky with the person assigned to your case. If you feel like you would still enjoy EQ2, feel free to join me and my sister - we are starting fresh and are happy to level up casually.
From what I have personally experienced and heard from others: SoE CS is well above average with any game related stuff. They also do very well with general account management stuff. Anytime billing is involved, however, the service seems generally poor.
I would say SoE overall is above average in terms of mmorpg service, i cant really think of a major company thats better. However, the bar is set very low in this genre.
I've just started again from scratch after a 4 or 5 year break and I'm loving it... Its not overwhelming really although I had the same fear and there is no real grind unless you create it... Enjoying visiting all the old haunts and doing the quests... I've even turned off xp a few times so I don't out level stuff...
Seriously give it a whirl.... Try the F2P first and get all access if you still enjoy it....
