As a would be returning player would I need to pay a sub fee on top of the xpac fee to get in and try? Standard edition is $50, deluxe $70, plus $15 for a month just to see if it's for me? Or does the xpac come with 30 days or so of play time??

Yup, basically the same way that expansions have been handled with all mmo's.
Thanks for the replies, kinda what I thought. The info on the Blizz site is a little vague just saying a sub is required.
At any rate IMO and not a flame... but that seems a bit steep. Really would like to give it a look but there's other games competing for my gaming dollars now and $65 to get in for an xpac is crazy. Again, just my opinion.
I'll second this. Blizzard gives away game time like it's candy as long as you're not a complete d-bag to them.
Each has their own value on entertainment. I will not pay for an IMAX movie cause it is a rip off, but we all value stuff differently.
This sounds eerily familiar to another "prolific" poster on this site who has an odd fixation with the price of WoW. Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure they've used that exact phrase "competing for my gaming dollars". Hmmmmm...
You can download the trial for free to take it for a test drive. There are significant limitation to chat, trades, whispers and the AH, but you can at least see the servers, the art/environment, lore, etc. up to level 20.
OP said he would be a returning player.
Yeah I do belive we need a poll on this subject!

lol, yup, that will be next
Nope, just my opinion. Watching my pennies closer now than ever before is all. If I had the cash to buy everything I wanted this year I'd be there. But I don't and with the holiday season fast approaching and gifts to buy I'll probably pass for now.
