Content development is ongoing and released regularly.

Cash shop is tame and without any pay to win or no "must buy".

The consequences seem to be a game that generates revenue similar to a game 10 years ago might?  Which isn't the greatest return on investment?

It's so weird... people like you use the server merging thing as signs that other games are dwindling, before gw2 adopts it, but then when gw2 adopts it it's a brilliant feature... i wonder if you are biased?

The content gw2 has released since launch isn't up to par with what the big games are doing... hence the decline in revenue...

Actually the cash shop is pay to win... you can literally buy power through boosts, buy legendaries by spending enough money on gems... etc etc...

Actually most of the people that worked on gw1 are gone from anet... that's according to a QA lead that worked for the country... which means it's more credible than any notion you have.

gw2 on the other hand is btp with fluff/story cashshop ( they could have gone the way of the secret world another btp that sell their added content for only real cash )

As other have stated if you want to do th story after a break S1 tough luck you cant do it.

S2 hey they changed it so you log in 2 days a month and you get it for free cant be arsed to do that and only log in once you either

A pay for it with real cash, I know who want to pay for crap ( I mean you bought a pack of meatballs from that store once it should be free for the rest of your life right)

B pay for it with ingame cash ( takes abit of time sure but what are games but time wasters? )

C Make friends and follow them into the story they have been arsed to unlock by either A or B

boost that dont work in wvw or spvp so what do you win exactly and yes you can buy legendarys becouse other people are selling them not arena net them selfs.

And legendarys are the same power as ascended that you can craft yourself ( only good about legendary is the skin and that you can switch stats if you want to make another build)

Oh you dont know what pay to win is, I understand now mate and will explain.

Its when you buy stuff thats better then the best gear in game and win since the other guy only got the best gear in game.

    Edit

And why should you care if he buy or play up to best gear in game since the game is,

A pve the guy helps you out ( he cant hurt you in any way)

B Spvp gear dont matter there all got best gear

C WvW good luck finding a 1 vs 1 were he may be able to beat you, depending on if your equaly skilled. ( if you aint, either your skill will trumph his gear or his gear will just make his skill kill you abit faster)

I mean people wanna make up farfetched reasons to justify any bad signs within gw2, it's almost as if they believe the game is immune to major flaws... must be why the revenue is so large right? :wink wink:

Kinda like megaservers are death for all other games, but when gw2 does it they are brilliant and amazing and not a sign of populations shrinking...

No pay to win is a game like Knight Online where I can buy actual items in the Power Up Store that give me more HP and Defense as well as buying items that sell for tons of gold to buy the best items. You can buy Pots that vie twice as much healing with real cash that can't be earned in game.  Played that game for years and Paid to Win quite often. Spent over $1000 in that game to get the best gear. Sold the account for even more than that because other people wanted to Pay to Win.

There is a gigantic difference between Pay to Win and Guild Wars 2. It's not even close to Pay to Win.

B2P or F2P the effect pay walls have on players is the same. That video covers the effect very well and the options better suited to make money. Anet is making a very bad move.

It's the same thing as Arche Age cash to gold conversion system. Anytime you can take cash and buy in game gold with it, it's kinda a no brainer....

Most people that worked in gw1 still work in gw2.
The actual big names that left Anet, left it pre -release.

I'm sure you can do better than "I know someone that knows someone".

No one actually said "I know someone that knows someone", that's just your bias twisting it into a hyperbolic claim in your own mind so you can tell yourself how unreasonable it is and discredit it to yourself...

Now what we do have is a QA lead stating that most of the staff from gw1 is gone.... i think the QA lead that worked at anet probably knows more than the random guy on mmorpg.com that thinks gw2 can do no wrong.

But hey if you can find where someone said "i know someone that knows someone that said gw1 staff was gone" go right ahead... prove that someone actually said that and that you aren't just warping what was actually said, taking it out of context... so that you can convince yourself it isn't true... after misconstruing it.

Actually most of the people that worked on gw1 are gone from anet... that's according to a QA lead that worked for the country... which means it's more credible than any notion you have.

boost that dont work in wvw or spvp so what do you win exactly and yes you can buy legendarys becouse other people are selling them not arena net them selfs.

And legendarys are the same power as ascended that you can craft yourself ( only good about legendary is the skin and that you can switch stats if you want to make another build)

So you can buy the best gear in the game?  Sounds pay2win to me...

Any time you've purchased the best gear in the game it is pay2win.  Nuff said... white knight all you want... try to make all the irrelevant arguments you want... still pay2win....

Pay to win is pay to win... period

How is it pay to win when you can have the same gear by playing the game?

Its Play to win since if you play your get the best gear in game learn your class and get all the content for free, the last part that this thread was all about and i noticed we derailed it.

It's the same thing as Arche Age cash to gold conversion system. Anytime you can take cash and buy in game gold with it, it's kinda a no brainer....

I like how you only respond to some post mate by this definition Gaia_hunter is right in that you think Eve is pay to win.

Just becouse you can buy gold dont make you win anything since that gold dont buy you anything special in guild wars 2.

You can buy 1 item out of 13-14 depending if u use 2h or not and still that 1 item can be crafted by anyone or got through random stat chest drops in game by playing it.

OP  I completely agree with your post

Luckily I won't ever have the pay to return problem.

    I WON"T BE BACK.

How is this even a thing, you get access to all the content, you just miss the achievements and a few loot bags (not as many as playing any other farm)

Come on everyone, let's get real for a minute.

There are many more past players of GW2 than current players. Fortunately, due to the business model, they are all still owners of the game and all could potentially be converted back into players, (even paying players), with the right incentives.

The biggest potential incentive for doing so is fresh new compelling content. You do NOT bait the hook and then throw up a pay wall between the bait and the person you are trying to hook if your goal is to leverage new content to regain players. Period. In no universe does it make sense to do so.

This has to be frustrating for the content developers and everyone else working to improve the game and re-broaden the player base, only to have some suit decide that a pay wall between disenfranchised players willing to give the game another look is somehow the way to go.

If there was to be any pay wall at all, it's bass akwards. I can see limiting access to a new chapter for the first week to people willing to pay 200 gems, in order to keep flooding of new content manageable. Then, after the week of exclusivity, make it available to everyone for free. They'd make a lot more money that way and the strategy would be much more enticing to returning players, with no cost to "catch up" and maybe even some would be "bitten by the exclusivity bug" and pay rather than wait up to a week.

We'd also get to see how many active players still thought 200 gems was nothing to complain about if they were the ones being asked to pay it for immediate access. That would be worth it right there.

$10 will get you 800 gems, so 200 is not a big deal, and it is easy to trade in game gold for it as well!
