Money is certainly not a problem for Blizzard so why not be pro active to avoid queues?

Can anyone help me understand this? i am not very technical so i am just guessing here. Shouldn't Blizzard before hand increase server capacity in anticipation of WOD launch?

I saw LFG documentary and they are clearly no small company. Look at all the hardware and technology they have access to. Knowing that total sales have clearly surpassed their server capacity should be the sign? no?

So if money is not the issue than what is?

One rule of business is to never spend money needlessly, regardless how much you have.

One rule of MMOS is there is always a big rush at launch that well quickly die off leaving you with a much bigger problem such as dead servers.

They also had more than enough money to put out new content but they left WoW with no updates for a full year.

You're right though, none of this would make any sense for Blizzard to do... but Blizzard died a long time ago, now it's Activision and as you can see they have very different priorities than the Blizzard of old.

Or you could read Blizzard's posts that they lowered server capacity to make it easier for them to combat the DDOS attacks they were suffering during launch, which is why there were queues.

The can't really be prepared to handle an attack on their servers any more than WTC towers were prepared to handle the aircrafts.

Well i  got in and there is no queue at all. At least not since 4pm eastern , it is now 3am eastern i still no queue on some of the most popular servers also. I think they almost finish fixing all the issues they had. There is not even lag or anything anymore. I started to day at level 93 and i am now at level 98.

Anyways going to bed, hope you have fun playing !!!!

Except that this does not even close to qualify as "needless spending." I've already had 5 friends quit WoW because of the terrible launch. Even the free transfers for large realms only pointed you toward other servers with ques and not the low pop ones for some stupid reason.

Getting 16hr que on a P2P game only to get booted for a another few hours with the character not found message is total good for business i swear......

Money is an issue to Blizzard, making money is the main reason they excist, and if you dont spend money uselessly your earnings will be bigger...

Overhere in europe, i play on a Medium pop server witouth any Queues.... and all i had to do was use the free transfer available to get my ass out of that allready pre release overpopulated server..   Glad i did, the server had a 5000+ queue yesterday evening, while mine was queueless

    See above posts:

Server capacity was lowered due to DDOS attacks, this was only an issue the first few days and is no longer. If your friends spent the money and quit that quickly over childish rage, then you have a strange choice in friends.

I think they have the initial queues problem sorted, at least on the server i play on - Moonglade, on Friday, there was a queue it took 20 - 30 mins to get through, but this was prime time in the evening, and then of course there was the whole lag issues, with having to wait several minutes to phase into your own Garrison, i gave up in the end. So i was more than a little surprised when i logged in again on Sunday evening, there was no queue, and no lag in phasing into the Garrison, so much so that i didn't notice any actual phasing going on. Whatever measures they implemented on Saturday seem to have worked image

I was in queue for 7 hours on Friday in prime-time and never cleared queue. Was in queue 5 hours last night before I finally got in. I don't think they have their issues completely sorted out yet.

Blizzard offered free server transfers before WoD went live... no one took the offer.  Come launch day they were demanding free transfers... hind sight is indeed 20/20.

Simply put, if you rolled on a high pop server or were already on a high pop server this was inevitable and unavoidable... just as it has been since the game released back in 2004.  Common sense isn't so common.

In 30 days, probably less, you will see the problem disappear.  Just as it always does.  Less people all trying to be in game at the same time at the same place.

Every game out there has the same issues at launch... if the game is worth even trying.

Prepare yourselves now, this is the norm.  You can't wait 2 weeks post launch to play any game, you can deal with the crashes and lag and the queues.  Patience is a virtue.

If people pay to just login your game and take of their gears and talk erotic without concerning about anything else in game, would you spend more money to make the game better? or what if people don't care about that they paid for your game but can not even login because you have issues but they don't even care and are willing to wait 7 days to properly login, would you bother making it better? if suckers pay more to get less why would anyone bother with making a game greater than what it is?
