ArenaNet is ready to take the lid off significant changes to be implemented in the Guild Wars 2 PvP system. The changes are expected to inspire world class competitive PvP and come prior the first World Tournament Series to take place in early December. Guild Wars 2 developers will be detailing more about the precise changes coming to PvP throughout this week.
“This year we worked with our community to bring you the ‘Tournament of Legends’ as a path to Legendary weapons, the ‘Tournament of Glory’ to earn unique skins through skill based play in PvP, the ESL GO4 tournaments where players can earn weekly cash prizes and an even bigger monthly cash prizes, and the World Tournament Series, where the very best players of each region can become legends on the international stage,” Corpening continued.
Announced in August of this year, the WTS is the first cash-prize tournament for Guild Wars 2, with $150,000 at stake over the course of three championship tournaments planned for 2014-2015 in China, North America and Europe. The event in Beijing represents the first championships and is the culmination of months of competition that began with an open tournament inviting all players. The field was whittled down to four finalists after WTS Invitational Qualifiers in October – two teams from the host region China and one team each from North America and Europe.

Significant changes :
(insert class here) has duration of (insert skill here) damage over time reduced to 99.8 % and time from 10 seconds to 9.6 seconds
Unsure where the detail are here, but from tenton hammer:

The update primarily includes:
Leader of Knights Templar
GW2 IGN: Damarus

Sounds about right, they aren't going to do anything to make the game any more special and just continue to do very minor tweaks. Even the WvW XP update was a letdown for me a year ago because the skills it gave were so weak and irrelevant.. 100 Hours of gameplay to do 3% more dmg to a certain type of siege weapon, no thanks.
There it is, major significant.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
I wonder what "better matchmaking" really means.
The problem is: The ranking is account based but just cause I am good with my main doesn't mean I am instantly that good with a new class.
So to say it short, I am fed up with playing my main in pvp but when I try out a new class I get stomped into the ground cause my account says I'm oh so pro.
If they change that then I would love to return to pvp and try out some of the new characters I created meanwhile.
New game modes, new maps, new classes, new skill system, new skill bar system = significant change!
Professions probably not until a big update - like an expansion.
New skill system - won't happen - same with skill bars.
They have put a new map in and testing some others now.
Anet will never- EVER make it into e-sports with GW2. It doesnt matter how big their prizepool is, the game itself is not made for pvp. PVP=Hardcore crowd but GW2 was made for casuals in mind.
I stopped playing 1 month after release. Worst money spend so far.
I still favorize GW1 though for his pvp.
Not really interested in any of those (and really not interested in E-sports at all, just do what I find fun)... the bit of the article that really got me interested is "Besides that, there will be new PvP modes", and I think it's what the community will hope for as well.
The system needs to be tweaked, but I believe that the big changed needed (and expected) are more PvP modes and more maps. They did do a stream sometime ago where they showed different PvP mode ideas they were playing with in proxy maps (things like capture the flag, king of the hill, last man standing and stuff like that), that's the kind of things I want to see.
What can men do against such reckless hate?
"ESO killed it"
You couldn't be more wrong.
This is not a game.
I dont play pvp a lot, i am lvl2 now, so when i want give try and play random game, I always ends with lvl40+ and was 3/4 of rounds dead on the floor, so i expected some "significant" pvp matching to put people at same lvl together
Yeah I'm sure you know exactly what you are talking about.
I mean sure there are constantly several 5 vs 5 matches going on but hey - we need people who didn't pay for the box so they can do whatever they want in pvp without being worried of getting banned.
The pvp players will love that.
and for WvW the usual.......
