An Extra $100 Million Of Their Own Money?

rpmcmurphyrpmcmurphy Member EpicPosts: 3,502

So the direct quote is that CIG are putting in $100 million of their own money on top of the $62 million from ship sales? Where has that come from?

I haven't seen any video, could you link itt?

What I've seen is coming from an article in this month's PCGamer magazine. The author does say it's a direct quote - https://twitter.com/ultrabrilliant/status/536531726508773376

This game has been entertaining so far, watching all the people get bilked out of their money. It's better than actually playing a game. Thanks Star Citizen.

If Chris Roberts had $100 mil of his own, he'd still be making bad movies in Hollywood.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Andy, the author of this article, is now saying that he will clarify this with Chris Roberts. It may be a misinterpretation.

I suspect CR said the same as during the Australian interview, which is that the game will have reached 80-100 M$ in crowdfunding until the end of the development in 2016.

Such misinterpretations happened before, e.g. when journalists published unrealistically optimistic project schedules that were never coming from CIG themselves. And up until today some people are still accusing CIG of being lazy money-grabbers based on these overly optimistic magazine schedule.

Clarification (as expected) from da man himself:

"This is a misquote - What was said is that we'll probably have invested at least $100M into the development of Star Citizen by the time it "launches" to the public. This is based on our intention to invest all the money we raise during initial development back into the game (which I've been quite public about) and the fact that we will most likely raise this much by the time the full vision of Star Citizen is polished enough to be called "public" (of course all you guys will be experiencing Squadron 42 and the PU before this as part of the benefit of being backers and being part of the development process)

You guys are literally setting the budget and ambition of the game with your support which in itself is a pretty amazing thing and something I never would have believed possible two years ago.

    Hope that helps!"
