FPS/MMORPG combo... IS IT TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE???

I know you all were hoping I would have the answers for you, but I am looking for some input here. I saw comments on this in a variety of other topics, so I felt it was time we just sink our teeth into this one image<?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />. Ideally, I think there are many of us (including myself) that are looking for UT2K3 meets EQ2, (preferably in a fantasy/medieval setting). I'll start off with a little of what I have come up with on my own...

First of we all know Planetside was the first of this game type. They broke the barriers. Now we have Neocron and Endless ages. Both of which I am none too familiar with, but I thought I'd throw them out there, feel free to offer any further input on those titles as well if you like.

Two other titles came up so far in my search (these are fantasy genre, which is more what I am currently looking for anyways):

1. Darkfall - http://www.darkfallonline.com/features/faq/faq_combat_conquest.shtml

2. Realms of Torment - http://www.computergames.ro/articole.php/optiune-show_preview/preview-30/index.html

Well that should get this going. I am sure there is some gaming goodness coming down the pike that I have not yet come across. If you have any input on these titles or any of your own that you feel may fit the bill, I would love to hear about 'em. image

This isnt an MMORPG, its only single player, but its first person and its a GIGANTIC world.  Im sure youve heard of it, its called morrowind and its for PC or X-Box.  The world is amazingly huge.  It took me about a half hour to explor 1/30th of the map.

Cool, thanks for input. I may check that out. But I must admit if it's not multiplayer, I find it hard to get into. There is just something about the human in your face combat, beating your opponent down, rush of adrenaline that battling exclusively computer, AI driven adversaries seem to lack.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Wow this topic got quiet REAL fast... Either there is a lack of intertest in FPS/MMORPG (which does not seem likely due to this topic being touched on in other non-related posts, not to mention the incredible amount of gaming goodness to be had from such a combo), or no one has ANY additional information to contribute. Which I also seriously doubt due to that massive amount of intelligent and resourceful individuals who post on this fantastic forum...

So lets see some more postings....  image

Neocron was out b4 planetside image as far as i know it was the first mmorpg to use a proper fps combat engine, the next decent one will likely be face of mankind. Plantetside imo isnt a proper mmorpg, its more a mmofps, theres no real leveling just pvp.

If thats the type of game your looking for atm id go with neocron. As for mmorpg with fps combat and a fantasy theme, cant give you much info on that sorry.

Thanks for the info Cyphor... If Neocron was out before PS, I stand corrected image... So far DarkFall seems to be a strong possibility for the upcoming hit of FPS/MMORPG. But I am still not clear on the combat system. So far the references to it that I have read have been vague. But everything I have heard up to this point leads me to believe that COULD have it all.

I still plan on checking out EQ2 though just to test the waters, and I will start doing a little Neocron research as well.

But lets keep posting so that we may all find the ULTIMATE FPS/MMORPG... So us hardcore competitive UT2K3, EQ, FPS RPG PVPers can enjpy soome serious gaming goodness!!!

Actually, to be honest with you, Endless Ages was the very fist mmorpgfps, not only of the genre, but also the first to stick TO that genra, planetside is a mmofps, neocron on the otherhand came out about 2 months after EA went gold. but in anycase, endless ages is the one i play and love, i tried neocron first, never bought it, tried out EA bought it and have been playing ever since. And then i beta tested planetside, wich i bought and then unsubscribed to becausae it got boring. Sooo...EA is the only one i and many people i know stuck with.

Wow thanks for the info, I will go check out Endless Ages next. I totally agree with you on Planetside. I loved the game when it came out, but like you said, it got really boring. There is just not enough diversity. After you take over all the continents time and time again and try all the certifications and implants, there is nothing left to do. So I also unsubscribed. I just checked out Neocron, and I am currently on the 10 day trial thingie. So far it seems cool, but I have not even got into combat yet. I will go take a look at EA asap, and see how it stands up to the competition.

Also I am curious why I do not see a EA Discussion Menu at this site?

Any thoughts on the FPS/MMORPG games that are up and coming? DarkFall seems to offer the most promise as far as I can tell, although I am still uncertain if it is a true FPS? Any info on that?
