Black Desert: Korean Open Beta to Kick Off on December 17th

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

According to information taken from a press release held in Korea earlier today, the open beta for the highly-anticipated Black Desert will begin on December 17th. Players will be able to download the client beginning on December 10th and be able to create their characters from December 12th-15th.

Also they had stated that there are a lot of changes compared to CBT3. The fishing system has been revamped, as well as the confirmation that the new Olbia town will be a starting village. There will be brand new guild quests, a new title system, and unfortunately they will keep the channel system they had in CBT3 in which each channel will have the capacity of 5000 characters. There will be also be a cash shop with micro-transactions, but they are not clarifying what kind of items we will see there.

I can't wait for the NA release of this game.  I don't care if it does have a cash shop and requires that you pay $1 for every step that you take in the game.

    That's nice for Korea.

You can just substitute "Archeage" for the words "Black Desert" and you'll quite likely have a good clue as to how this will all play out in the long run... just remove the concepts of "labour points" and "land ownership" and replace them with a doubly-reinforced Cash Shop....

I am going to be all over this game when ever it comes out. It has every feature I look for in a mmo.

I really could care less about the "long run"... so long as I am having fun, it's worth my time/investment.  I had fun while I played AA, I never spent a dime, no loss no foul.  What killed it for me was total server imbalance, that's it.  I don't really care about land plots or game economy... none of that is what I care about in games.

Not going near this till at least a couple of months after EU/NA launch.

Archeage has cured me of mmo alpha enthusiasm, thanks Trion (oxford dictionary says Trion: a byword for utter incompetence and lack of customer relations)

Anyone else want to bet that this is a overly-sexualized pedo-bait cash-shop lottery box extravaganza or is that a sucker bet?

Donno why people are comparing this game to Archeage. "OMG it's Korean so it must be like AA, herp derp." AA was a failed game that took years to be released over here by a company that wasn't ready to publish another companies game. People get so blinded by a new games hype they don't even read the fact the game was failing "well, it'll be different in 'murica" or " 'murica isn't the same as korea" and look, now people do nothing but complain about AA, good job. People got hyped like idiots and then fall hard and now you have more anti-koreans on here then before cause they didn't wanna read the truth.

That character creation... holy hell look at that immersion.

Combat looks fun. Maybe a little too much teleporty-ness, though.

I always enjoyed killing massive amounts of mobs instead of killing like a small amount. Rohan grinding parties were still more fun to me than quest grinding. Made a lot of friends had a lot of good conversation in them.

You might have a very long wait, that is if you are waiting for a westernized version.  After Trion's disaster with ArchAge, I doubt any western publisher is even thinking about trying to localize another Korean game for a while.

All I can see is the effects. I prefer when I can actually see my character during the fight. It makes the game look arcade and cheap imo.

I was thinking the same thing. Also, there are mobs all over the place; would like to see the character's health bar to make sure this won't be one of those immortality fests these games tend to be these days. I mean the games where you can't get yourself killed even if you're trying.

I guess you haven't been keeping up with BD news

Pearl Abyss/Daum  will be launching in the west themselves - no western publisher will be used.

I am very doubtful of it going well - but I'd love to be wrong.

Koreans don't understand western market nor playerbase that well.

Trion failed at releasing a Korean game, so I can't say that they know the western market either.

I am hoping this game doesn't turn into the p2w mess that Archeage became.

As excited for this as I was/still am, I felt the same way about ArcheAge a year ago and look how that turned out. My favorite mmo developer/publisher (Trion) is now my least favorite, would be a shame to end up hating another one lol. I'll still keep an eye on this game, but won't allow myself to get hyped for it.

Unless we are able to switch of the effects, this will be a no brainer for me. Shame!
  • AnirethAnireth Member UncommonPosts: 940

Looking good so for. Effects aren't really over the top, especially given that in trailers they usually show way more than what you actually see in actual combat.

Obviously, both a mere trailer and combat alone doesn't say all that much about a game, but better than already looking bad in their own trailer, which some games managed.

So can we play the Korean version or will it be region locked?
    ....
  • TheGoblinKingTheGoblinKing Member UncommonPosts: 208

It's free to play with a cash shop just like archeage and we all saw how that colossal mess turned out.

Well the 2 games have a lot of features in common - also the fact that a huge % of developers who worked on ArcheAge also made Black Desert again makes the two games alike in many ways.

Even more reason to avoid this game like the plague.

    Another cash grab sandbox.

unfortunately any game that is free to play inherently goes down this road so it's a given that it will.

Opinions vary - just don't play if you don't like it. Cash grab - lol - you can play for free without spending a cent ever.
    source?

yea, game looks nice but that combat doesn't look the least bit fun to me...more like a hot mess.  I like to actually see what's going on rather than a button smashing fest.
