[Column] Elder Scrolls Online: Update 6 Is Bigger Than We Thought!

Update 6 is a big one. Not only is it going to have the Provisioning Revamp, introduction to the collector system, and even the Champion System, but one addition to Update 6 is one that hasn’t received a lot of attention. One I think is a pretty awesome change. In Update 6, as long as everything goes according to plan, we’re going to be seeing some massive combat animation changes. Changes that will not only improve fluidity of the combat in The Elder Scrolls Online but more importantly, it’ll increase the players’ immersion.

Oh nice! I look forward to seeing some video on how things are going to change up.

Sounds great but they need to address the issue of stamina builds being so much weaker than magicka builds and add more skills to each line to work with. 5 skills per weapon line is just weak.

Also trials need to be done away with and turned into actual raids since the whole point of time trials focuses on time and not on difficulty. It's way too easy to do these trials and groups usually wind up skipping entire groups of mobs, rushing to boss and just spam AOE skills. Not to mention you can mount up in these trials and elite groups require you to have all speed in your mount. Plus there's no incentive to the hardmode versions. It's just a bad idea.

The collector system simply involves finding rare trophy / item drops which you then consume for an achievement and a dye, I believe.

I agree about how they listen to customers, the changes that have been introduced since launch are huge. Rather than just stick on new areas they change the game fundamentally and regularly to try to improve it, it's really impressive.

Will there be controller support for pc?

I thought they fixed stamina builds already, but at launch (1st month) stamina builds were useless. Again I haven't kept up but I remember a patch that fixed stamina builds.

They have, of course people who haven't played in months ignore this but better so...

I disagree. Not saying the changes aren't good but I don't agree this stuff makes Zen a "good" company.

If a car manufacturer brought out a car with only 2 wheels and people complained that the auto-stabilising gyros didn't work as intended. They listened however, added a 3rd wheel and then - after listening some  more - decided to add a 4th wheel. Would you say what a great manufacturer listening to the customers (that were left). Or that they should have tested their product properly before releasing it.

A silly analogy to drive the point home. Most of the stuff that has been changed was criticised pre-launch; not all but a lot. Was it fair criticism - I don't think all of it was but some of that comes down to personal likes and dislikes. And people who were happy at launch may not to happy with how things are post patch; the way it goes. What that drives home however is that at the end of the day the only reason they are changing stuff is to appeal (they hope) to "the most" players. Hence changes will make some happy will upset others. It is being done to retain subs and - maybe - generate better sales if they ever release on console.

Which doesn't make the changes bad but doesn't, imo, make them a "listening" company either.

Excellent news, this was one of my biggest gripes with the game. I'll be renewing my subcription shortly.

Of all the mmos I have ever played this one is like playing a game for years that is still being developed. I don't mean this to sound as bad as it could be. Most of the content additions are purely horizontal content simply adding to the core game you can experience from nearly level 1.

The main draw back to this however is that I would rather play Swtor with some rl friends than wait for the minimal core systems in ESO to emerge. I'd love to see the game a year from now though.

    Any date for update 6?

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

It's done already. Stamina builds are strong enough to deal with trials.

  • Rivan12Rivan12 Member UncommonPosts: 28

As a player since early access I can honestly say that Stamina builds of most any type are fixed, buffed and ready for end game content as well as PVP.  Though Magica builds still do hold a slight edge.

Also the collectors system is referring to a new system that holds all pets and mounts in a separate inventory system taking them out of bags and banks.  That along with the provisioning updates (50% fewer required/dropped ingredients in the game) will go along way to solving players inventory issues.

I expected it to hit PTS this week, but it hasn't. The patch ususally stays two weeks on PTS, so it looks my original 6 week prediction might need to be adjusted to 7 weeks. That would put it 3 weeks from now or right around Christmas. They could update the PTS tomorrow though. If not I would think 3 more weeks.

Whatever, animation changes are the last thing this game need. Last time they changed it we got spagetti legs and that haven't been fixed yet.

I was one of the biggest fans of this game but I was forced to leave when update 5 broke my combat. My FPS would drop in PVE when hitting my first skill in combat from like 60 to 12 for 2 seconds, then go back to 60 with each and every fight. They were never able to get to the bottom of it despite trying every possible step and 5 different video drivers. They are giving me free time to test when update 6 hits, but in the end something tells me I won't be able to play until I get a new PC and I won't do that until Nvidia releases whatever the next high end card will be (980ti, 990 etc) as I want to start gaming in 4K with a single card utilizing Gsync. I hate SLI and the problems it brings either at release or when a patch hits. Such horrible support at launch by Nvidia. In the meantime, I'm playing Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age inquisition at the same time so pretty busy for the next couple of months :-). I think update 7 will be a good time to return as that will most likely coincide with the next Nvidia card in 2015Q1 :-).

Update 6 is a fantastic step in the right direction. They really need the justice system and some quality of life stuff (housing, etc) and this game's rating will jump from a 7-8 rating to a 9+ IMO. I already think its currently the best exploration based theme park available despite the way it pulls you from one end of a zone to the other. You are rewarded by exploring and you don't have to do everything in each zone. There are TONS of ways to level and the skill progression and quality of questing compared to other MMOs is the tops.

    +1

If they listened during beta (which is designed for feedback and bug finding last I checked) the game would have launched later, but with more of these added features and revamps already in place, thus potentially giving them a bigger and better first impression, which would in turn probably result in higher retention.  Oh well, live and learn.  One of these days I will be back in Tamriel either in ESO or the next Elder Scrolls game.

You should have a look at agile development methodology, deliver early and often after that - real quality. Its ok not to get it perfect first time - as long as you passionately keep seeking to improve the experience constantly. The game is seriously quality now, after a month im still at level 16 with 2 chars and I get that vanilla wow/this is an amazing experience feel, and what's more its spending a long time in a zone and getting to know it that gives that sentimentality long term - I can't rate this fame highly enough now if you like the RPG in a fantasy MMO. Special shout goes out to the mad god with the cheese fetish lol

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

I know about agile design methodology - and other methodologies as well. And have used "appropriate" approaches both in the EU countries and in the US. And there is a time and a place for agile development. Not OK though to - deliver aircraft and expect only a few crashes in the first year for example..

A game that did use it? GW1 may be the best example - wasn't called agile development back then but it was.

If Zen did any agile development during development it didn't show. And given that the console release was still planned until 1 week before release I wonder what they were using. And now: they are in post-production support. And people are paying for a "production standard" product not a "development" environment. The parameters change.

Anyway - glad you are having fun. Pretty much everyone has had fun through the initial levels. It was after that that things "fell away" for many and they moved on.
