CIG and its partner studios gave an update for the work done in November and an outlook for December (and some goodies and surprises coming in December into our hangars).
Some highlights that interested me personally (but there is much more):
- The ArcCorp city is done, they are now working on TerraPrime (civilized area) and the lawless system of Nyx and its primary smuggler port there.
- The overhaul of the CryEngine to 64 bit should be finished by Feb 2015
- QA and Ops Team now on 24/7 shifts (with the studios in UK and USA handing over tasks during the day)
- Lots of additional team members hired to get things done faster
- Avenger and Cutlass soon flight ready in Arena Commander V1.0
- Lots of AI updates, sound, mo-cap, facial expression work, body scanning
- New detection, emission and stealth system
- All Vanduul and UEE cap ships for Squadron 42 (Idris and Javelin will be most important for the player story-wise)
- Org Leaderboards and Lobby System, including visiting your friends hangar
- Server and client analysis tools for ship and weapon balancing
- More bugs killed than in Starship Troopers (e.g. issues with ESP joystick aiming and asteroid crashing)
Which part of the news update was most interesting to you ? In my case its all the new locations, shops and NPC AI.
Have fun

Holy $/% I am always amazed, these monthly status updates are a LONG and detailed read!
Talking about transparency, I challenge anyone to come up with a crowdfunding (or ANY) game project which shares that gigantic amount of infos with its community.
I hope CIG will keep up the level of community involvement. Unsurpassed.
Doc ... i think its a good idea to involve a company specialised in NPC AI ... what was your "Hey look, cool !" moment ?
Well made NPC AI (and the player made content) will breath life into the persistent universe. Anyone can have "Generic Shopkeeper No.3" standing behind his counter 24/7. I want NPCs with a daily life cycle (heck ... Ultima IV had this in 1985, thats almost 30 years ago ... why can't modern games do something similar ? ... yes, I am looking at you, SimCity !!).
The effect of eye-candy like new ships and sites and explosions and nebulae etc. will wear off pretty quickly. But a believable, immersive world with sophisticated NPCs ... that will keep players in game for years.
Have fun
yes the NPCs going about their business will be great and a major step forward from generic static NPC standing around doing nothing. Pretty much what GTA V did is the current gold standard.
I hope the NPCs in GTA4 are comparable to the AI in GTA 5 ... got the complete GTA4 package at the steam sale for a small amount of money. Will check it out. Could well be that there is some valuable input to be found there that can find its way to the "Game Ideas" section of the SC forums, especially once the SC social interaction module is online for testing.
Have fun
