SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The Heart of Madness, Update 24, is Dungeon and Dragons Online's most recent addition. There will be three Xoriat themed dungeons in Eberron, and one new free Wizards of the Coast dungeon based on the Tyranny of Dragons story line. There are also some great system updates, such as Weapon Auras, Monster Champions and newly upgraded Barbarian enhancement trees.

Nice to see they are still putting resources into this game.

let this game slide into sweet death stop pushing the corpse with a stick.Make a new ddo already with a better engine , use your years of experience to fix stuff you didn't like and keep the good ones , like friendly free to play and i guess in the start the paying system was much less demanding which allowed more people to hone in and play with their friends . Free players or even non-whales are giving you time , respect that for they are the ones that help the community grow and allow for people to enjoy the group play.Keep the free aiming , its one of the best even to this day i must say , your interactive objects are on level just few more upgrades and you have a pretty amazing dnd game , might not even be dnd . Look at what dragon age did nothing realy unique about it maybe some , but most of it is general fantasy , so just invent interesting lore , make the gameplay enjoyable which is what mmos suffer badly from , think of ways to make people team play your current system is pretty good few minor tweaks might do it.Don't go for the generic gameplay and questing and you might do fine. Sorry for the rant to everone, peace.

They finally have a decent new d&d with ed5. .. maybe it's time for a new ddo we can be proud of. I'm not counting never winter for obvious reasons

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

I tried this game out for a few months before ESO launched and was blown away. The graphics are terrible, but the level design was brilliant and the gameplay and character development some of the deepest and best in any mmo I have played.

It really felt like D&D as well. Got quite grindy after level 5 or 6 though (even with a sub).

DDO has been through its ups and downs, mostly ups as it is the best free 2 play game out there for quest design and storyline. it is a good port of a pen and paper game that was the OG RPG and it started the whole RPG genre in video games around the world it its all video gamings envy. D&D pen and paper has yet to be beaten in its freeplay ability, open ended world, and customizability...and if your experience with pnp was not the same get a new DM js ;).

Game was amazing until the twf nerfs and then the concentration of epic level content. Fun and population took a nosedive after that. Funny, they still don't see the effect of concentrating solely on epic levels and nerfing powerful builds. Game used to be extremely populated. Ghost town now.

I honestly didn't realize that this game was still around ... wow. I had some good memories in this game after it first came out, but I'm actually kind of shocked that they haven't hit the kill switch yet. I agree with the person that said it's time for a reboot. DDO felt way more like a D&D game than Neverwinter. The dungeon design was excellent and the puzzles were refreshing for an mmo.

I've heard good things about the game in its questing and grouping but it looks so awful it's hard to find any incentive to play. I wish Turbine would update their engine, though LOTRO looks a lot better than this from what I've seen.

It gets mentioned so rarely I guess it just has very dedicated long term players.

You do realize that when Bioware left Atari, they also left behind the License to D&D with WotC and Neverwinter Nights, therefore they HAD to create their own Name,  Ruleset and Lore to be able to release Dragon Age and not lose money in Development they had already spent. After becoming embedded into EA's infrastructure part 2 went downhill from being "rushed".

Still a very good game. It is way more close to D&D then Neverwinter. Character building gives so many options. Combat is different, not a classic timed abilities masher (when meleeing at least). Graphics are not next gen but still pretty decent for such an old title and at least it works on pretty much any computer.

It is still an enjoyable game, still plenty of life in it, and still plenty of folk playing it.  It does need some advertising, and a graphical update, but tbh, I have played a load of games over the years, and although their graphics are better(GW2,ESO) the games themselves arent. DDO is older, and it does need polishing,no arguements there. But there are a lot of folk who are more into fun than pretty graphics, at least in the long term.
