A lot of "MMO's" these days are some sort of "lobby shooter". I played the crew beta for a couple hours, I was thoroughly unimpressed, and uninstalled. The car handling was very wonkey compared to any other racing game I've ever tried, and the lack of interaction between players sealed the deal.

The game in a nutshell is "go to x mission location in the overworld to start an instanced race"
    Also uses Uplay.
    Buyer beware.

    Waiting for:
    The Repopulation
    Albion Online

To be fair, the best MMO content has always been intimate 2-10 player group experiences, but this only becomes a great part of the MMO whole when it happens organically through interaction with other players.

heh as if in all other MMOS you interact with 100's of players all the time to get things done right? FFXIV RR for example. It is a MMO right? all i need is a team of 4 to get things done.

Mario Kart 8 is more of an MMO than The Crew.

    It plays better too.

Since when is Tuesday a direction?

Wow, so much hate and misinformation. Hate to break it to you folks, but many many MMOs have 4-man groups. IIRC Gw2 and ESO are both 4-man groups, some are 5-man, I think EQ2 was the only 6-man I know of. Its pretty common for group size to be limited to less than 6 players. You dont take 100s of players into your instanced group dungeon in WoW do you?

That being said, it is very much still an MMO. There are 100s of players on the server, and you will see them (and run into them) while driving around the country. The game is not limited to 4 people. Which is what it sounds like you are trying to imply. Servers are still hundreds just like any MMO, and group size is limited to 4 players, also just like every other MMO. I really dont see what your point was here, or why others are trying to jump on this misinformed bandwagon.

Do you work for Ubi or something?

You are implying that this game and other MMOs are on equal terms as to what degree of multiplayer there is. You can only group up with the maximum of 4 to play together. Other MMOs? 6-64 while you can also interact with hundreds to thousands of players outside the group. I don't suppose you can do a car raid can you. That would be amusing.

I can't fathom why anyone would make a Need For Speed Online clone.

Nope, dont work for Ubi. Sadly, right now, I dont work for anyone, but thats my problem, not yours :)  If I were being totally honest, I dont even like Ubi, they are one step away from dethroning EA as the worst company in the world. That being said, just because I dont like the company doesnt mean I should come to the forums and make QQ posts and spread lies and misinformation. I usually try to do my research on a game before I start throwing around wild accusations and calling them out on things.

So no, there is not currently any "raiding" for 20 man or 40 man groups or anything. I have no idea if they ever plan to add something like that, but I doubt they could, I dont think the games engine was made for those kind of races. Do I think they are still on equal terms with other MMOs? Absolutely. Like my post says, most MMOs have a small group size, not all of them allow for larger raids, and a game certainly isnt required to have 64 man raid groups to be called an MMO.

Group size is average for the industry, I dont see how anyone can call it anything but that. As far as outside the group, the game is an open world. There are hundreds of other players, you can see them on the map, you can see them on the roads, and yes, you can get 64 of them together, and drive Route 66. So, do I feel thats equal to the degree of multiplayer in other MMOs? Youre damn right it is. There is nothing stopping you from interacting with any number of those other players outside of your group. In fact, I would bet there are many people here that can name other MMOs with far less degree of social interaction.

Best MMO content was when 100+ players went into the Horde capital to kill their leaders which were 13 levels above us and succeeded.

"best" is subjective. I would choose 5-man instanced lobby type content over 100+ player horde capital raid any time. Just waiting for 100 people to organize is non-fun (to me).

What is the problem? Much MMO gameplay is instanced with small groups anyway.

Plus, the usage of MMO has been broadening. Didn't the OP get the memo?

Agree , contents for massively numbers of player is best contents in MMO.

Being part of hundreds players playing a big event give me epic feeling that no instances contents can.

I can't see how "4 player crews" can give people "incredible MMO experience".

It something like run with 3 friends VS being part of running events for hundreds .

Unfortunately if its just for 4 people then its of limited scope anyway, not really in the MMO category at all, although clearly it is a multiplayer online game, just not a 'massive' one, where 100's of players are able to play together at any one time, or if you want to opt for even bigger player numbers, just take a look at Eve, where you can gather a 1000 or so of your closest friends and do something stupendous, as long as you don't meet someone else with as many friends, or more, than you do. Fleet actions in Null sec can involve 1000's of players, even Jita has over 2000 players there at any given time.

If you prefer to have at most 4 people to play with than to get involved in larger groupings, then chances are, you prefer multiplayer games to MMO's anyway, and there is nothing wrong with that either, just as some players prefer to play games like Battlefield with no more than 60 odd players involved, or Planetside 2 where its several hundred players involved, some prefer the smaller scale, multiplayer games vs the more massively multiplayer ones image

Fascinating that this is what is putting off some people - I would probably have not noticed or at least not minded the size of "multiplayer" if the driving physics and "modifications" didn't suck. I was hoping for (based on the presentation at E3 in 2013) Forza+GTA, instead we got Midnight Club with a bigger map and a bad story.

If 100 players drive to the same spot, you see maybe 6-8 of them. If 100 players run to the same room in Ironforge, I see all 100 players, whether or not I can take them all in my group.
