Wondering if i should upgrade my current pc's gfx card or just build a new pc. Current spec are:

AMD FX4130 processor 3.8GHz

Nvidia Geforce GT 610

500 GB Hard drive

12GB DDR3 RAM

500 Watt Power Supply

not sure if current processor is still viable, but i know the graphics card needs replaced.

current tower http://www.nzxt.com/product/detail/95-phantom-410-mid-tower-case.html

linked current case because im not sure what graphics card i could buy because of the limited space.

Also, if i was to rebuild what are your opinions on a i5-4690k processor thanks for the tips

If you want to get cheap computer that runs all the games, you could do it just by switching graphic card to that one.

If you want to get a good gaming computer and have the money, then you should upgrade everything.

I'd say that both are equally viable solutions and it's a question about how much money you're willing to spend.

EDIT: That case looks like it would have plenty of space for a graphic card. If it's a card that's too big for your case, likely it draws so much power that your power supply couldn't support it anyway /EDIT

The only thing that really stands out is the GPU, get rid of it and replace it with something for games is my advice image

You didn't put what mobo you have though, might be useful as you may be able to improve the cpu some without buying a new mobo, but a quad core cpu running at 3.8ghz is not bad really, and with 12 gb of ddr3 memory you should be good if you just stick a new GPU in.

My advice is replace the GPU for the best you can afford, see how you like how your PC is handling games at that point, it should make a huge difference just with a replacement GPU, but if your still not completely happy, then buy a new mobo/cpu later on, either way you need a GPU but you might not need a new CPU image

Think just replacing gfx card will run most new mmos in high / ultra?

If you are looking just to replace the video card in the computer. You could pickup a Geforce GTX 750 TI FTW edition they can be bought for around $170 dollars. There is also the Radeon R9 270X which can be bought for around $170 as well.

The length of the video card varies from brand to brand. Just double check the specs and see how long the card is. Then check your case to make sure it can handle a card that long.

If you don't have that kind of budget and looking for something little cheaper. You could pickup a XFX R7 260X Double Dissipation. Best Buy currently has a sale on them for $129.99 this week.

I owned the XFX R7 260X Double Dissipation for all most a week now. In the game Alien Isolation I can run it on ultra and play just fine. In the game FarCry 4 I use a custom setting which is medium grass, water, terrain, shadows settings. While the rest is on High settings and using SSAO and SMAA.

When playing SWTOR I can play it on very high settings. But I choose to play SWTOR on high settings to reduce chance of video lag. When there is a lot of players or npc's using a lot of skills in the area. I also tend to do all my gaming at 1600x900.

I'm running on the old AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition processor.

That's a very strange build of the sort that makes me wonder what else is wrong with it.  What motherboard do you have, and what power supply?

    At 1080 resolution I assume.

    Medium? Definitely.

High? Mostly. A few may need a couple options turned down, but you won't notice much visually.

    Ultra? Probably not.

And I agree with Quiz - there are some very odd and questionable items on your list so far that may force your hand one way or the other.

The new build looks much more like a gaming machine than the old one.

You may want to consider using a SSD for your OS and games.  The mechanical drive is a major bottleneck in computers.  Switching to a SSD will result in fast OS load times, fast game loading, and better overall responsiveness of the computer.

I hope you don't plan on using an old mechanical drive for your OS drive.  At the very least, get a new OS drive.  Drives older than 3 years should not be trusted to last another 3 years in a new build.

The same could be said about power supplies.  If the system you're pulling one out of isn't very new, I wouldn't risk brand new components against an old PSU.
