Originally posted by emperorwings Eldevin isn't that much P2W ish other than requiring bag space and sacks to make life alot easier as well as required gold purchase as armor repairs costs more than what you could possibly make leveling through normal means. You can't level in broken gear and require bag space. The quests give good xp but grinding in between quest is almost comparable to EQ1 grind. I know they adjusted repair costs and added more quests but I stopped playing because life is just easier with EP which you have to keep buying.
This sounds horrible. I tied it abit earlier.
I thought it was pretty neat, until they seemingly ripped the RuneScape tutorial zone right off(Troll Invasion, playing a member of the guard, then knocked out or whatever, wake up), ect.
I still liked the art style. Then Is stepped into the actual game itself...grabbed a quest and saw... "Kill 10 Rabbits"
Nope. I refuse. I've played lots of MMORPGs, lots...and I refuse to go back to that kind of quest system. Runescape actually has fun, unique quests which do not revolve round killing x amount of monsters, unless you include Slayer, but that's a mini-game of sorts. RuneScape has mostly voice-acted, interesting quests with memorable characters. I also like how they tie into each other in unexpected ways, and depending on if you've done a quest or not, the dialogue and objectives can change.
Runescape was my first mmo as a 9 year old 14 years ago. While it may not be nearly as popular now as it was then, RS Classic and RS 2, it will always have a special place in my heart. I continue to go back for a month here and there every 2 years or so.

What about browser based games that don't have moving animation? Moving graphics isn't required for a great game. Come on who doesn't remember Archmage from back in the day when the internet was young and Hackers was an amazing tech movie. Archspace, War of Empires, 1000 AD, Battlemaster, Kings of Chaos, Kingdoms of Carnage, Gate Wars. There are some really good games out there without moving graphics.
Guys. Edelwin is barely known. I just looked it up. Their own official stats show a few hundred people playing at PEAK hours. While at peak hours, RuneScape can still surpass 80-90k. Sure, not their heydey of 200-300,000, but it's an old game. Edewlin is new...and it's got good atmosphere, but the combat sucks, the quests suck, ect.
RuneScape has passable combat, great atmosphere, and an actually amazing storyline. Don't say it isn't unless you've actually played a good deal of the quests.

RuneScapes combat is no better than Eldevin. The atmosphere is worse as it has probably the worst gaming community i've ever experienced next to MapleStory's. And what storyline lol. That's not even mentioning how 90% of the game is paywall'd.
I've been playing Eldevin the past couple months and it is way better than Runescape. Since it came out, they have implemented movement by WASD keys, full view instead of just a top downish view, and many other needed features. It definitely should have made the top five on this list but the writer obviously hasn't played many browser based games.
I'd suggest doing more research on the topic next time you make a post about something.

just saying that this one "top 5" of off a huge list of browser games innit valid is just like saying RS is a WoW clone, or ultima was a WoW clone, just because they all seem the same at some point in time or gameplay.
when it comes to life everything works based on examples, and every single one of them seem or are for a fact an example of another example, thus the word "clone" is in fact a major factor but yet again real.
im pretty sure that after you have been playing for a couple of years a game like RS and then you get to the point that you either have the means or skills to build/dev a game, you will have a tendency to make it based on your previous experience, making it yet again an example that people in genre will call it a clone, yet again that doesnt mean it really is 100% a copy of the above mentioned.
i for one been testing most of them starting with the ole text-based idle rpgs, ultima... RS till the highscore boards got hacked, lineage, and so on, and yet again when WoW came out, it was in fact a CLONE or RIPOFF of all the previous games, since it picked a little bit of every single one that "expired" in time, and thats the only way it became so "popular".
we... humans cannot live without having an opinion, its just like having one more invisible bone in our body, yet again that Example is part of our DNA.
Some say Eldevin should be here, others say its barely known. Well, it is not known much, its new. But this doesn't seem to be "5 most popular browser MMOs" or is it? It is called "Top 5 browser MMOs".
We can argue as we want but since we don't know how much research writer of this article put into this we can't be sure. It just might be that he thinks these five games are really the top, or he didn't do much research so he doesn't even know Eldevin exists. Today not many people give any research to anything, except "I googled it". But as I said before, we don't know how it was with this article.
I think though that would be nice to have "honorable mentions" like in certain youtube series about movies.

You can thank the GE for the decline of Runescape community. The community at launch and afew years later was one of the best gaming communities ever. Now it's full of scammers and bots.
I agree big time. Eldevin needs to be on this list of top 5. In my opinion, I like it better than Runescape! And it recently came out with a downloadable client, which i'm loving.
It also has a Steam client, along with the micro-client and browser versions. It's definitely a worthy addition to the list.
I gave up on Eldvin, simply because of the restrictions on items. Such small stacks of items in your back pack is pathetic. Crafting suffers from a similar problem, forcing you to spend most of your time running to and from gathering sites and crafting stations.
Alas, I would still be playing this if these problems were sorted!.
Just started playing Eldevin and was so impressed with the community. I had a quest where I had to go fight a boss and when I got there, I found this player standing near the spawn spot. The boss pops (much bigger than I) and after I hit him a few times the other player joined in and helped me kill him (which probably would not have happened without the other player's support.
I thanked him and noticed he remained there while I left. Obviously he was waiting to help someone else! Great.
Then later while foraging, a high level person ran up and said as soon as you get to level 5 I have armor for you! Wow. I was blown away by the support from those folks.
If you have not tried this game, please do so. NO, it is not WoW, hah. But you will probably find it really entertaining, especially when you see how great the community support is.

Besides a few of the starter quests, none of these are simply kill x amount or collect x amount of items.
Sure, 13-14 years and only 200ish quests seems small compared to something like Tera claiming 10,000 quests...but quality, quality over quantity.

Agreed - not sure how it didn't make the list.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.
I am looking for some browser based MMO.
So somebody make a list if you have time.

I can think of five off the top of my head.......
And apparently there is a rather extensive list under that tab above called 'game list'.......
Honestly, this is an odd post.
