Age of Conan players ready to start a new toon but less than thrilled about leveling it up can now purchase an instant boost to 80 from the in-game shop. The boost will set players back $40 unless a level 80 character already exists on the account, in which case the cost is reduced to $30.
In addition, the team revealed several key membership packages and offers for players to check out.
You can now buy the all new Level 80 Character Creation option in the Item Shop. Start the game with a new, fully equipped and adventure ready max level character! This option costs $40, but only $30 for those who already have a level 80 character.
You get to create an all new character at max level, which starts the game with a full set of Rare (blue) equipment appropriate for the class, a swift mount and the skill to ride it, a 56 slot bag, 10 Gold, 79 Expertise points for the AA system (only Members can get and use AA points) and Food and Drink appropriate for your class.

40 bucks!
Do they really think all that many people will get it?
I would consider if it was 10 bucks, but not 40, no way. And yes, WoW price sucks too.

I played & really enjoyed AoC a couple of years ago. Began as a free player then was having so much fun I subscribed for a whole year during a sale. It never had state of the art graphics but overall they were good & the atmosphere to me was impressive in game along with AoC's mechanics. I've never been a fan of PvP & I even dabbled into that & achieved my first ever any mmo max level character while PvPing. I still enjoy the PvE more though. All was fun & enjoyment till I achieved max level, then a horrible grinding began via raiding for gear/items points etc. That ruined the fun for me & I slowly began playing less & less. I've logged into my AoC accounts a couple of times, but as with all mmos once you leave for a certain period it's never as fun & the economy seems so steep it kills any aspirations in replaying. I liked AoC's item shop back in the day, I utilized it a few times when there were sales for my toons. I still have a little $ on my accounts that I should try to use in a best efficient way. Just like all mmos once the playing & progressing starts being taken over by mind numbing grinding showing little progress I start losing interest.
I seem to remember in the "olden days" when this game launched people raving about the graphics of this game and arguing it was the best looking game around.
Guess no more kesh grinds, Its a pity because it was a great way to socialize..
TSW - AoC - Aion - WOW - EVE - Fallen Earth - Co - Rift - || XNA C# Java Development
not worth 40 at all, it's way to easy to level to 80
SOE set the price first with their Level 85 heroic bauble. The rest followed.
Funcom at least lowered the price by 10 bucks and 20 bucks even if you already have a max Level char.
The person above you has no clue, I had to build a new machine to play AOC before of how great and demanding the game was, and I had a great computer before that. SO no idea what the heck he is talking about.
The game still has the best fatalies in the industry, I wish more games did that.. Also for crappy tab target they made it fun with the combo system.
What ruined AOC was bugs, and the raid system always was bad, the PVP was so so. The questing I found to be fun only at times and the expansion before that not so much. That game could of been great . It was fun though.
+1.
Wth is going on in this industry? People pay for a product and then they pay more to skip it entirely?
That's what I've been saying since years...
And @Jenosyde above, nope, it's not a trend wow started (just as not wow was the first mmo, lol), AoC was the first with their insta lvl50 offer, even before f2p or microtransactions. (so no price for it, or 'buy the expac and you get it' and such moneygrabbing). Also the offline levels later, and we're still years before the f2p era...
As much as I love AoC, this is a bad move. Just as bad as the lvl50 or the offline levels were. "Start the game with a new, fully equipped and adventure ready max level character!" A max level character is not adventure ready, it's a done one. That's why it's called endgame. Why would anyone pay for skipping the entire game, and do the endgame grind straight away? it's beyond me... but I'm an adventurer, an rpg-fan. I guess there are different playstyles.
The industry is simply providing something certain players demand. People having been "paying to skip it" for years and years. Buying and selling max-level accounts on e-bay is as old as the MMO industry.
I cannot really comprehend why anyone would do this, but clearly there is (and always has been) a demand for it. We are all different I guess...

Don't be surprised when you complete a dungeon next time and get a pop-up saying
"No loot this time, Pay 10$ or try again next week?"
The micro-transaction model is getting out of hand...
(No this wouldn't be pay2win only pay2savetime?!?!?!?)
1: Awesome raids .
2 : Best raids ever made in enny game
3 : ok pvp . But demands knowlege about your character.
4: Raids and pvp are the only thing to do ingame.
5: 40 Dollar for a level 80 character. No ....... Way!!!

Well, it makes sense to add a lvl boost if your game is super-old (like WoW) with sooooo much content that it would be painful to go through it all if you're a casual player or only looking to do end-game stuff.
Not sure AoC qualifies for that content-wise, but eh...
Well, the key is the part where he said he started as a free player. I started AoC from the beginning and remember the graphics in comparison to other games at the time.. That doesn't mean they're still the greatest thing in the world compared to games of this time.In other words, don't compare release AoC and it's contemporaries to current AoC (or when it went f2p) and the contemporaries at that point. He has a valid point there. When I first played Myst the graphics (pre-rendered) were amazing. Now, not so much..

For those of you who can't comprehend why anyone would do this, here is at least one scenario:
I am in a raid group that raids every Friday. Suddenly the cleric can't make it on Friday any more. No one in the group has a leveled up cleric. I buy a leveled up cleric. Problem solved...
It was not the worst mmo when it was a subscribe fee back then it was ok game it was good player community and forum was wonderful even game director Craig Morrison was on forum many time talk to player it was nice to know the he care but after he left game went downhill.
