Lord of the Rings Online: Update 15.1 Brings Bug Fixes & Essence Changes

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The Lord of the Rings Online forum has been updated with the latest update notes. Included among the general bug fixes and feature enhancements is the news that unique essences from Central Gondor will no longer be stackable. Players will only be able to equip one of each type. The team detailed how retroactive changes will be applied alongside the long list of other patch contents.

  1. When a player logs in for the first time after Update 15.1, if they have more than one of a unique use essence socketed in all their equipment, any armor or jewelry with that essence will be unequipped and placed in their inventory (going to overflow if inventory is full). The player will also get chat notification telling them that this happened.

  2. When a player tries to equip a piece of equipment, the game will check whether the item has multiples of a unique use essence. If so, the player will not be able to equip that armor or jewelry, and all instances of the duplicated unique use essence will be removed and placed into the player’s inventory. (Going to overflow if inventory is full). Note: this will only happen as long as the player has no other item with a matching unique use essence already equipped.

Nice to see some fairly big bug fixes, it's quite a sizeable update.

Nice update: I keep my eye in the rear view at LOTRO, keep thinking about diving back in for a little bit, just to catch up. Lifetime Sub, that hasn't been touched in 2 years.

Wow... that means a nice chunk of 12k TP accumulated, great start if you decide to diving back :)

And since there's a sale on expansions this week (20% off in the in-game store), if you want to bring your account up-to-date and buy Rohan, Helm's Deep, and the beorning (you don't need to buy Gondor since both packs are free for Vip's) you'll still have almost 6000 TP left for the convenience, or the fluff. For free. Lifer was a great deal...

I have lifetime sub too. I used to download the game on yearly bases, but the game failed to enchant me. SWTOR and TSW spoiled me with voice over quests and it's hard to go back to walls of text. I am glad thought to hear that game is getting updates. Good for all Tolkien fans. maybe one day I will jump in again. Who knows.

I'd still prefer The Old Republic over this garbage.

I mean if they don't allow players to go past lv20 in quests without paying then it's not worth even touching this game.

I had the missfortune  of playing this.

Thought it was F2P not a trial then you had to start paying to even level and acquire quests past lv20.

They need to rethink the F2P thing and say "Download this game and play the trial of it then fork over money"

    That would make sense.

Or you could just, you know...sub to the game and get everything.  God forbid a game goes F2P and doesn't try to make money some way.

The whole point of the hybrid system is to entice people to sub to the game for the sake of convenience and speed of play.  If you aren't willing to shell out any money to support the game, I'm not sure why you are playing MMOs to begin with.  But that doesn't mean the rest of the game isn't completely open to you as long as you are willing to put in the time to grind Turbine Points.

Anyway, I no longer play this game myself because it's just too dated for me, but I found it far superior in scope to a game like SWTOR.  I even found the main story quests to be better written that SWTOR's class quests.  It's just a better game, IMO.

That's about where I am too with my life time sub.  First and only time I will buy one of those lol.  Still, if they ever do an animation revamp I will go back to that game with open arms.  Until then my TP will continue to accumulate and gather dust.

No interest in playing games like these that have been delegated to "sustain mode" by the developers... Just nothing to look forward to

I think it's all subjective... For example I used to bash TOR's f2p (especially after they flipped, nowadays not that much because the revamps did some good to the model), while I think LotRO has a cool f2p model. Also you'd be surprised how many people are playing LotRO totally free... because they can.

That's the main difference between the two, in LotRO you can get a lot of TPs from the game (in TOR you can get only some small change, a couple CCs from the Legacy system), and in LotRO you can unlock everything from the Store (while in TOR there are subscriber-only perks, which couldn't be unlocked). So LotRO can be played fully free (with a lot of farming, I add), while in TOR you can crawl (with restrictions everywhere) through the main story of 2 classes, and that's it.

I'm just talking about the f2p models, not the games, I like TOR too as a game. And I'm not saying TP farming is a good thing in LotRO, it's a huge grind and it's also maybe hurting the game for some extent (at least Sapience mentioned in one of the "hobbit to Isengard" runs that the number of players who never had paid a dime is not a small niche, it's pretty visible on the charts). I'm only saying in LotRO you can get and play the whole game for free. Which is making it a better f2p model for the free players.

Exactly. Being f2p or p2w is the least of this games problems. The LOTRO dev team has completely given up on the game. When you stop making any amount of content to keep people busy at endgame, you've given up. They are just sustaining it with small updates here and there but this game has no future. It's a shame because it really was great for a time, and had so much potential. Haven't played in about 3 years but to this day, friends and I talk about all the missed opportunities Turbine had. Blame WB.

Do you have any understanding of what sustain mode means ? Even though there has been no new expansion in 2014 there has been new zones added , a new level cap and a new class . That is hardly sustain mode .

Have a read of that and tell me is that a small update ? It gives three new zones , a new class and new instances . Would be interested for you to explain how that is a "small update" and how that fits into your theory that the developers have stopped making "any amount of content"

My guess is you gave up when it became free to play and have been complaining about it ever since without any real knowledge of the content that has been added in recent years .

If you cannot understand how to play a game, then don't look foolish making comments that are incorrect.

You can play this game all the way to the end game without spending a dime.  Now granted if you want to take one character and rocket him up to 100 there is going to be some grinding required.

All f2p games are free to try, pay to play.  If you have to play everything for free, expect restrictions.

As to the comment above about essences,  must be for high level characters because none of my characters are effected.

I wouldn't bother their stance on removing dungeons and raids from the games (Big Battles are not raids!) has thinned out the game's population quite a bit. There really isn't much to do at the level cap other than grinding some reputation for gear that serves no purpose.
