Monster capture/training/breeding MMORPGs?

leoakleoak Member UncommonPosts: 8

I'm leaving Archeage (already have a lv50 char and the servers have been down over 40 hours) and I've been browsing the fantasy MMORPGs, but nothing seems appealing.  Back when I played on the original Playstation some of my favorite games were Azure Dreams, Jade Cocoon, and Monster Rancher.  So, finally fed up with the fantasy genre, I'm hoping someone might have a suggestion for an MMO that has pet/monster capture/training/breeding, but isn't like Neopets where everything you do on the game is focused on feeding and playing with pets.  I'm looking for more of a strategy/TCG  game where the pets/monsters are part of the game, but not the sole focus, and has quest, dungeons, story line, etc.

Any suggestions?

Dragon's Prophet-  You capture and train dragons basically.  They even have a pet fighting arena.  They have a few types from flying swimming to tanks ect...

Mortal Online-  You can capture and train just about anything but its a harsh pvp world with full loot system.

Grand Fantasia-  Has a fun pet system and its kinda cool actually.

Are you onto something or just on something?

I have yet to find an MMO with a pet breeding system I really like; I've been playing Flight Rising, which isn't actually an MMO, but more of a virtual pet site with an RPG combat minigame.  As far as strategy MMOs, the ONLY one I've found is Dofus; if you make an Osamodas character you can be a pet summoner, though there is no capturing and breeding.  There's mount capturing and breeding if you get to level 60 or so, but it kinda sucks.

(I have a design for a pet-breeding/tactical combat MMO, if you are interested in discussing MMO design. http://www.gamesprout.com/ideas/399/design_document )

I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

In this genre, I would be interested in something with big monsters, like dinosaurs, Godzilla ect.  The smaller ones are really not interesting to me.

Runes of Magic has an interesting pet system.

EQ2 has Beastlord, a purchasable class, but it may be too primitive compared to other games.

Rappelz has a quite detailed pet system, I would give that a try for sure.
