Professions.

Just wondering if you can give us and hints as to what type of player services, each class will be offering, I would imagine Rogue would be Popping boxes for folks. But, any insight on what the other classes will be offering?

"Every profession in Hero's Journey has the power to perform at least one service that is essential to other players. The most essential of these may also be obtained from NPCs, but going to another player will have greater benefits and will likely be more convenient. These services will be entirely up to your discretion to use or take advantage of."

At this point we haven't released any information about what each profession's service will be. But I'm sure if you looked at the various professions you'll have at least somewhat of an idea of what they might be able to do.

Sorry for not giving the answer you were hoping to get. Hang in there though... I'm sure a more direct answer to this question isn't too far away. Dont hold your breath just yet though. image

On second thought... How about I list the classes and you guys take a guess at what services they will have.

The tentative list for the nine classes to choose from is:

    Warrior

    Ranger

    Rogue

    Wizard

    Necromancer

    Gearknight

    Healer

    Cleric

    Bard

  • I could try and guess a few, some have me puzzled though as to what they would offer....

Warrior - Armor and weapon repairs.

Ranger - Some type of tracking service? However, I hope it's implemented in a needful way....

    Rogue - Lockpicking.

Wizard - Some type of enchanting service.

Necromancer - Corpse retrieval?, This one is up in the air for me.

Gearknight - Modifications to weapons and Armor, maybe???

Healer - If there are wounds from battle, then maybe this class works like an empath from GS???

Cleric - Bless weapons, perhaps for the undead???

Bard  - Lore singing, That being if there are Items that need their properties Identified.

    Ooh, fun. Okay... let's see.

    Warrior
    Maybe they can break stuff.

    Ranger
    Tracking? Is that a service?

    Rogue
Lock-picking seems to be the most obvious choice.

    Wizard
Hmm, possibly item enchantments? Or maybe teleport spells... or potions!

    Necromancer
They service people?? Ha, I have no idea. Maybe they make potions.

    Gearknight
    Maybe creating gadgets or something...

    Healer
Probably healing, rezzing, and the like, if those count.

    Cleric
I still need to know what the difference between this and a Healer is.

    Bard
    Music!

Okay, so I don't have too many ideas. *shrug*

Rangers could also gather herbs or food stuffs. Like a gatherer skill or what not.

Necromancers could make poisons maybe?  Give them to other folks to put on their weapons or make little alchemy bombs with'm.

and I like everyone else's ideas for the rest image

You silly people, what are you thinking.

Necromancers raise dead LOVERS of course. What else would they be doing?

The difference is that healers do not resurrect the dead, they simply heal wounds (poisons, cuts, bruises and whatever else is a wound), and clerics are the ones who raise the dead ones (to life unlike a necromancer) but cannot heal them in any way.

What I'm curious about is how do healers heal? In DR they physically transfer the wounds to themselves from the damaged one, but I'm assuming they'll just use magic in HJ?

Considering that GS and DR also take place in Elanthia, and the healers in both games practice the empathic art, I would imagine that this art has not been lost nor changed. Therefore, I would imagine that the healers will be the empaths we know and love, in Elanthian tradition.

I would like that, but I'm not betting too much on it.

    Warrior
-Mercenary services such as a temporary bodyguard for traveling merchants.
-Training others in beginner self defense.  (Like karate class!)
    -Reparing/Making weapons

    Ranger
-Tracking services.  Did you lose your precious pet FLUFFY?  Hire a Ranger and he'll track it for you!
-Training special abilites for other people's pets.  Kinda like a dog trainer in RL, but instead they'll teach skills like how to make your pet claw someone's face off.
-Selling traps for people with pesky bears (or stalkers) around their home!

    Rogue
-Mercenary services such as assasinating someone you don't like or stealing important documents.
-Selling poisons for the stupid.  Want a poisoned apple for your wife?  Sure, ok!
-Blackmarket services.  They can offer items not available anywhere else.  Like e-bay for the cool people!
-Opening lockboxes of course and/or the door to your own home because you locked your keys inside.
-Special underground info.  Like insider trading!

    Wizard
-Teleportation services to places of DOOOM AND MYSTERYYYY.
    -Enchantments
-Conjured weapons/armor that lasts for a short time
-Conjured special trinkets such as crystal balls

    Necromancer
-Um...funeral services?  But they won't be burying them...
-Providing weird kooky potions like turning your lover into a frog for a day because he didn't do chores
-Special information services.  AKA gossip mongers.  Want some dirty dish on someone?  Sure, for a FEE, we know EVERYTHING.  The dead don't lie.

    Gearknight
-Responsible for mass producing trivial items...oh and robots of ENDLESS DESTRUCTION.  And instead of saying "Made in China" it will say, "Made by Gearknights"
-Responsible for repairs for said items because they are the only ones who can!
-Maintenance of home and/or castle.  Like plumbers and electricians in one!

    Healer
-Uhh...raise the dead?  But they'll come out looking a lot better than when necromancers do it...

    Cleric
    -Healing...people...
-Placing protections on people when they are about to enter the Dungeon of CURSES
-Training people in beginner First Aid

    Bard
    -Wedding singer
-Party singer.  Male stripping will be an additional fee
-Responsible for jotting down your life's journey into a short but happily melodic song

What is making everyone mix these two up so bad! Silly people, healers heal and clerics raise! Think of clerics as priests or whatever you want to call them.

They should really change healer to Empath, because it A. has more of a dr/gs feel, and B. um, is better.

In some games the Cleric is the healer.

I'm not saying it isn't, but if there is a class called healer and there is a class called cleric, well.. I'd be worried if the healer couldn't heal anything. :P
