Project Entropia - no free speech?

Anyone plays this game? The forums that are linked to the game like EP and EF are heavily moderated. The other day I heard someone has his account banned because he said something the game company doesn't want to hear ON A FORUM. These days the moderators don't even allow people to post leaving/goodbye posts. When I visit the forum all you see are screenshot of jackpots won in the game, and nothing more. From the way people wrote their posts I felt the distance and fear in them.

What's up with that?????

Most game companies heavily moderate their boards for things they don't want discussed; be it bad gameplay, crappy GMs, or whatever. It's THEIR property, not federal/state/local property that's public, so NO game company owes you the right to free speach. EVERY EULA clearly says they can terminate your account for ANY REASON at ANY TIME.

PE isn't the only game that bans accounts for putting someone up in a forum that they didn't like. Blizzard has banned people for that, and so has SOE. It's hardly suprising.

No hellos and goodbyes is a bit weird, but hey, it's their boards, they'll run them how they want.

And it's a good thing they'll run it like they want. Because if they continue censoring the bad press on their own forums and it remains painfully obvious, then people thinking about joining the game will mistrust them and not bother. With no players, they'll go out of business and justice will be served. Isn't the market great?

    Hi, paul13, welcome to mmorpg.com.

That story is sad. What is worse is it has happened in other games, too. This is one reason why mmorpg.com and other sites like it get lots of traffic. Your critical messages about a game won't be deleted here unless you're breaking a non-disclosure rule in a beta test or something like that.

I have had my messages deleted by forum mods, and when I was in charge of a forum I would delete posts and ban people who violated the rules. I understand some of what forum mods are up against. It's a tough job when there are a lot of forum members, so mods tend to make rules about applying and interpreting the forum rules, if you know what I mean. It's convenient It's not correct, though. But, in your case, it seems like the game isn't making enough money and the company is trying to stop a major exodus of players.

    That's total bullshit.

Good luck with it. And, if it isn't fun any more, don't forget that you can quit that POS and find a new game.

Actually those are not their forums. They are forums linked from the game's main page. But like brian said they can ban a player's account for no reason I guess they pwn those independent site owners and moderators as well. Heck, that means if they run into this thread my account can be banned too!

Anyways Jimmy, last time I checked they were doing pretty well. pocketed 100k usd from a player on a sale of a virtual land area. I just thought keeping the players in the dark about the bad side of the game is dishonest business practice. The players putting money in the game will be hurt.

Yeah, I agree with the Kaptain on this it is just to prevent mass exodus of players.  The most likely reason they don't want people to say their leaving or goodbyes is because other players will wonder why they left and might consider doing the same thing themselves.  Since PE deals with real world money it is even more important to keep the panic down.

The main sell of PE seems to be the fact that you can transfer their money into real world money.  The graphics are not that great, not much for content, and the combat is so-so.   For me PE is run too much like a casino, they show jackpots won on forums and you are constantly bombarded with people getting big prizes and loot on world chat all the time.  It gets annoying to see after awhile.  The main reason I think they do it though is to say look you can eventually make money too if you play long enough.  So people will play and dump money in because it is almost impossible to get started without at least putting some money in yourself. (sweating and gathering oil is REALLY so going if you played you know what I am talking about ). I find that a little too exploitative for my taste.

I disagree. A lot of good-bye posts I've seen in other games seemed excessively self-righteous and totally subjective. Better to let your opinion be known with your wallet and go to open communities to air quitting messages. The company does control their forums and games and they do have the right to censor you.

I played Project Entropia for 2,5 years. The Forums you are refering to are player run Forums. Entropia Pioneers is a large well know Society (Guild/Clan) with in PE, that has chosen to to have their site as a public forum for information and news about Project Entropia.

Entropia Forum is a player run forum started by Mindbuster, an ordinary PE player, and is seriusly Moderated, to keep stricktly to game fact, news and things conserning the Project Entropia comunity. Moderators strive hard to keep away whiners and crying babies, and keep flaming down, not that negative feed back are not allowed, just that some people canot handle playing with real money, and far to often those cry out loud blaming everyone and every thing exept them self of course. Also called FLAMING image

Mindark, the creators of Project Entropia, are GUESTS, on these Forums, they have no Administration or Moderator roll what so ever. Mindark do not have any Forums, or Comunity relations what so ever, exept for the little news section on their own home page, or a monthly news letter you can sign up for.

And yes, Mindark can, and they have, and they will keep doing, banning people for bad mouthing Project Entropia, Mindark as a company, or any single staff member of the Mindark team. The cases I have heard about have been quite clear and in my eyes, not questionable.

Mindark changed the EULA last year, clearly stating what is alowed to say, and not say. For exampel, you can say. "I find Project Entropia very dificult to profit in, actually I made mostly loss, and I have hard to understand how people can make profit"

You cant say. "Project Entropia is a f***** scam, there is a no way to profit in this game, and every one that say they can are either scammers or liers!"

And the PE Forums has been full of "You cant say" whiners through the years and I dont blame Mindark for taking action.

My own experiences with Mindark Staff and suport has been nothing but good, exept for man power shortage they have seen to been on under the latest years of expansion.

The screens and jackpots your are talking about are player posted, on player run forums, and if your browse the forums a little more your will find toons of valuable, help full, and money saving information, posted by players, for players.

And leaving/Godbye posts, I see them all the time, and I cant imagine what makes you think they are not allowed. Pherhaps you are mixing up good bye post with just a nother whine Thread "Its time for me to move on, my time in PE has been great bla bla" , "Sorry guys Im leaving, PE wasnt just my game, good luck to you all, bla bla" or as many whiners post "Im leaving this sucky game, scam here scam there bla bla" Now I dont think a Project Entropia playing administrator would apriciate posts like that, or even care that you think Project Entropia is a sucky game, they dont o.O
