Is this basically a Freelancer clone? Worse yet, is it an XRebirth clone?
Why can't I find much about what this game "is" other than a space tf2? Is there an actual single player story line? Is it sandboxy? Do I make and skillup a crew? Can I be a trader? Can I buy new ships? Can I have a fleet of ships? Is there crafting?

hahah facking space tf2, I have heard it all now...
Well its plain at least to know you are not from the golden era of gaming at all saying such things.
seriously why post here when you can just do a quick google and find everything about it instantly from way back to today.
gee, troll post or what.
I did. It's vague, talks more about what they plan for it than what it "is", and doesn't really answer my questions. No where on the page does it say "no, it's not a Freelancer 2.0", or "this game is good, please don't compare it to XRebirth". Further, it claims, "Elite: Dangerous features a massively multiplayer, persistent universe, with an online-only single player mode", so is it like Star Citizen? Is it really a mmo or one of those "games called mmos by mmorpg.com" like Diablo 3?
Also, why are you so evasive when I ask? If you don't know the answers and are just posting to aggravate me, am I the troll here?
In its current state is basically an update of the original Elite from 1984, combined with an updated version of the galaxy from 1993's Frontier.
Its not a feature rich game yet. Its essentially still a Beta build, some would even argue Alpha!
Those claims are flat out lies. The game has no massively multiplayer or persistant online universe. You can't call a universe persistant when u can choose to play singleplayer and avoid all conflict and other people in the area. The game doesn't even have a chat box.
If you want a Freelancer clone go head over to SC, made by CIG. It even has the same arcade follow the mouse controls.
You, sir,are badly mistaken! Here, let me help you. Go look at War Thunder. Is it a MMO? If your answer is "yes", then ED is no less!
Also, bear in mind that a virtual universe is just data in a server somewhere. In this case, whether you play "open", private group" or "solo", that "PERSISTENT" data is altered by your actions and players in other modes can be affected.
As for global chat and all that? I've never seen more than spammed BS on channels like that anyway. No loss.
Freelancer? No. X Rebirth? No (unfortunately). Sandboxy? Mostly. Crew? No. Trader? Yes. Buy ship? Yes. Fleet? No. Craftig? Do not know, never saw any but someone mentioned it recently.
As to it not being X Rebirth, I have been playing more hours in XR of late then ED. Why? XR just updated to version 3.0 and the game works great. New (free) DLC as well. I have actually found there to be far more to do in XR then in ED. Both games look good but content is key. Now that XR has been so massively fixed from the launch condition it "suffered" from, I will be playing much more XR.
Let's party like it is 1863!
Thats for sure. lol
Personally I loved Freelancer. The mouse controls were pretty novel at the time, and there were so many cool things in the game. Very disappointed the sequel never got made.
Wanting a chat box in a space sim..... Go play WoW.
James T. Kirk: All she's got isn't good enough! What else ya got?
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
Eve isn't trying to be a simulator. Eve is a normal MMO. You can "hail" people once you know them or if you can target them.
James T. Kirk: All she's got isn't good enough! What else ya got?
This game could get really boring fast for most people.
If you expect instant action this game isn't it . The core of the game seems quite well done but they need to add more to appeal to the masses I think .
