hi guys, i bought eso last week played for a few days but just couldn't warm to aiming at your target.
i dont mind it in fps but in mmorpg's i like tab targeting where abilities win the fight.

I did the same thing. I went into ESO after reading about and was still completely unprepared because its a VERY different feeling MMO (which isnt a bad thing necasserily)
The floaty aiming which you don't like I was surprised at.
The console wheel to talk to other players (why is this in a pc game)
No nameplates so i couldnt figure out who was an npc and who was just standing afk lol
Can't inspect other players for classes or gear
Now i'm not saying this is all BAD, its just extremely different and theres no auction house in the game on top of that so walking into ESO is a pretty jarring experience.
I tried to like it, but it has such a MASSIVE console feel to it. (Hold down mouse for stronger swing, hold down mouse to block, console wheel to talk to other players) etc
It feels like they never made it for the pc in the first place (they claim they have because they said they are redesigning the controls from the ground up for consoles) but it never felt like a pc game in the first place.
No! ESO would just be another run-of-the-mill MMO if it had tab-targeting. Static tab-targeting is a thing of the past to be honest, and all MMOs should abandon it. TERA has abandoned it, ESO has abandoned it, and GW2 is slowly moving away from it. Hell, even WoW is starting to become more tactics-oriented.
Tab targeting: Stand in 1 place, don't move at all, mash buttons until the enemy is dead. That isn't fun at all, nor challening.
Action-based combat: Move around, dodge, block, interrupt, light attack, heavy attack, use your abilities as well as tactics. That creates a fun and challenging combat system, and definitely one of ESO's best elements.
Imagine ESO without having arguably the best combat system in the MMO genre. It would just be another average MMO doomed to go F2P.
ESO has tab targetting.
Look at an enemy and hit..........TAB!
ESO is sort of a soft hybrid between x-hair and tab targeting. It certainly isn't full tab but can cycle through targets after the primary x-hair target. It takes a little getting used to if coming from a traditional mmo.
The reason for it exists however. The game would be boring as hell as purely tab target. It is an action system requiring movement and active dodging which is why you have limited skill selections per bar. Many "skills" are universal for every player regardless of class. This makes up for the lack of primary skills compared to games like Wow, Lotro and Swtor.
The core concept is immersion and translation from the single player to mmo. It won't be tab targeting simply because TES games were not tab targeting. Once a player gets used to the system I believe most realize how immersive it can be. It suits the game perfectly (and I keep reading they continue to tweak it with improved response and animations over time).
Once you investigate why the game has the system it has and the benefits of it you will realize it's strengths. You do not require as many active skills because you can do so much more out side of your skill bars than what can be done in many other mmos.

Darkfall / Darkfall Unholy Wars. The best combat in the MMO genre.

Click, click, click with the mouse is just as boring as tab targeting and seems redundant when combined with an action bar for abilities. And if you don't move around, dodge, interrupt, light attack, heavy attack, use your abilities as well as tactics in a tab targeting MMO you aren't playing it right.
I'm hoping Camelot Unchained takes the title when released. 100% physics and interactions on all projectiles, combo systems and high number of active skill choices. I believe it will lean more toward tab targeting with dual target system but I imagine with modern updates. I prefer this with strict class structure games as it creates far more tactical choices.
Skill based games I have always preferred a more active target system.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

No one is READING.. It has both. It can appeal to both types of players.
exactly, not sure what the OP is talking about. I hit tab all the time to lock in on a target...but glad it isn't like WOW where everything hits no matter what.
There Is Always Hope!
I think some ask for tab target because they are clickers. Impossible to play eso as a clicker.
