Roberts Space Industries has released an amazing new trailer for Star Citizen. Called "Imagine", the entire trailer was made with images created using the game's engine. Check it out and let us know what you think!
Somebody could ahve shown me that footage and told me it was Mass Effect 4, and I would have belived it. (With only the lack af aliens giving away that it wasn't...)
Besides all the game has to offer, the one thing i am most impressed about this project is the company does not shy away from showing off their progress, what a trailer!
I prefer this trailer. It shows a LOT more of the small nuances and attention to detail that Cloud Imperium has placed in the game.
I look forward to the open "world" aspect of this game. The dogfighting module is already pretty decent. Can't wait for the zero gravity first person shooter and well... flying.
Yes I am a fan. Yes I own ships already. Yes, I can Imagine.
Devil's advocate here, when Bernie Madoff was selling his ponzi scheme the investment sheets he was showing off to lure more victims were amazing the best, lowest risk returns ever. Thousands of really smart people in banking, investment, and finance were fooled, people WAY smarter than anyone in the gaming industry. Just remember that when buying those $300, $500, $1000 ships.

I agree, I am an original backer of this game, but in reality I expect another pitch that they need another $20 mil or something to get it to release to come real soon.
Roberts has a good thing going with the ship releases, and I think as long as he can continue to get more people to buy them pre-launch the longer the launch will stretch out. It's actually a good business model for other indie's if the launch is successful but if not will be a huge setback for all who follow.
Being an indie developer myself I am watching the outcome very closely.
Originally posted by Arglebargle After a decade in Hollywood, you should be able to make a good trailer. Otherwise, you'd get drummed out of the movie business. Oh, wait, he was!
Lol, yeah, everyone knows that great game developers should naturally also be great movie producers, right ?!
Skill and fame in one genre does not translate to skill in all of them. Failing at movie production does not invalidate your success in game design. In the case of Chris Roberts, he had the good sense to realise that he should go back to the things he's actually good at.
Wish I could shake this feeling in my gut that we are looking at the worlds most expensive vaporware. I REALLY hope I am wrong, but its just hovering in my mind that we will never see a game out of this.
Looks good, not sure the Apple-esque music and weird dubstep suit it though.
Wonder how the final game will compare to "in-engine" renders?
Actually, the character models are in game now that you can walk/run with and interact with objects.
Nearly all of the ships in the video are in game, at a minimum on display in your hangar that you can interact with, i.e. open the ship doors, sit in the pilot's chair, and move the flight stick, plus working huds.
And the flying part? Been a thing for like a year now?
They are also working with Deliverance solely for the character models, since the developer is going heavy intensive into that aspect of the CryEngine.

Looks good. Watch Dogs looked good too. Hopefully it will play well with all the different pc builds out there.

I do not really think anyone who has had any contact with this project expected it to look bad. But there is a mile and meter between a insanely well edited video and the actual game once all is in and done.
But it is looking really nice and i know a good solid amount of people in my current guild that are really stoked about this. I will most likley check it out once it releases in a two-three years
In addition to working with Warhorse Studios (creators of Kingdom Come: Deliverance) for the character models and customization, they've confirmed that they will be partnering with Andy Serkis' (of "Lord of the Rings" and "Planet of the Apes" fame) motion capture company, Imaginarium, for character motion capture.
From their weekly Q&A show:
The game has nearly 300 people working on a subscription-free persistent universe (Austin studio), massive single-player game (Manchester studio), with both full-fledged space combat (LA studio) AND FPS (Illphonic) game components.
The space combat is already solid, and it's not even half-way done. A group of redditors stopped by the FPS studio and said it was already an absolute blast, and that module should hit around March. The persistent universe team's demo blew people away two months ago, and they'll have more to share at the end of January. Finally, the single-player team, with the single largest studio in the mix, will host a huge preview event this June.
A few individuals (who obviously have not been paying attention to this game's development) have been claiming it's vaporware. I think it's pretty clear by now that this is not the case.
Vaporware companies tend to rake large amounts of cash and then go dark. They do not go on to produce weekly Q&A videos from president of the company, a 30+ minute weekly development update show, offer a weekly community hangout session on twitch to get to know the team and ask questions, constantly respond to concerns and ask for opinions/ideas on the forums, present bi-weekly design documents, publish a 60-70 page monthly magazine showing the concept work and progress, offer monthly Studio Reports, or release Letters from the Chairman at each milestone. Plus, there's a slew of community events coming up this year. This is absolutely NOT what vaporware companies do, because their product is exactly that: vapor. Nothing. People can, and continue to, go into the game files that we have on our computers RIGHT NOW, and look at parts of the game in development (i.e., FPS components, planetside locations, new character models). It's. Right. THERE.
After getting burned by so many game publishers, who have insulted, ignored, or lied to the players supporting them, this level of communication is mind-boggling. I've sent messages and requests to individual developers on their team, and to my great surprise, have received friendly replies back. I've pledged about $100 since the kickstarter, and I already feel like every cent was worth it.

@ psiic
I was unaware this thread needed one. But I guess some people see opportunity everywhere they look.

Nice trailer !
SC, Elite.... we are getting some treat aint we ?
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Pretty graphics ... when (if) it releases lets see if the actual game play is anywhere as good as the graphics.
crazy quality
Nvidia will sell tons of graphics cards when it launches

Its already a game. You can dogfight, that makes it a game.
Its not the full promised game yet, but no MMO ever hits that mark.
Personally I do want them to get to the planetside aspect, but I doubt they will let us terraform (ie voxel manipulation)
Some of those spaceships could carve out some nice canyons from orbit

Ambitious? Yes. Vaporware? Certainly not.
