[Dev Journal] General: Introducing 'The Skies': How a Novel Made a Game

Our interesting journey started several years ago when I decided to enter a story contest and wrote the novel “The Skies”. The novel won the contest and it was an initial small victory, but still a very pleasant one.

It's cool that you guys are making a game.  The video seems to celebrate the first-person shooter aspect of gaming.  What sort of mechanics will be added to the game to show-off the original perspective on post-apocalyptic environments you mention in the article?

Interesting to see a game in its earlier stages as a book.

This is another of case ...COULD have been a great game.

I like the Post Apoc look in a map no problems there and i even think the story is cool, dude  writes a book gets a chance to live out his dream turning it into a game.

However what ruins this and imo EVERY game like it is the very boring weapons.Shotguns and knives and pew pew revolvers are just so old now that we have all played that  a hundred times over.

There is no argument at all, unless you are a brand name developer like Blizzard for example, you have to be different and very creative.

You NEED to give players a lot to get excited about, they don't want a first person view with only the weapon, they want a full Avatar and slots for gear and lost of customization that sets a character a part.

A game that is sort of similar to this is Unreal, however what made unreal great was it's cool weapons, yes it had a sniper rifle but a lot more than just that with each weapon having a primary and secondary attack. Also once you turn a game like this into an "outdoor" game it slows down confrontation, hence why an arena setting is better because it brings everyone together to fight  it out, instead of looking all over hells acres.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

A professional writer who doesn't know the difference between war and apocalypse? Hard pass.
