Fast forward the intervening 21 years to last week. Elite: Dangerous officially launched. Is there a credit bug? I doubt it. Is there the wormhole bug? I have no idea yet.... but I hope so. Where my first exposure to Elite was wide eyed wonder and my first experiences with it amounted to a lack of foresight, I decided I was going to take this easy. Work my way into the experience. Learn. Do it right.

or more like RIP RPG..
The rise of the "Single Player Always Online Thing: SPAOT"
Well still looking forward to the review although I´ve read enough ones seen through rose tinted nostalgia glasses from 1984.
The essence as IGN pointed out: It´s Eurotruck simulator in space, because most of the time you are staring at Supercruise and shipping things from station A to station B, and sadly there are only a handful of station types that look very similiar to identical.
Add a truckload (pun intended) of bugs, vanishing credits and a really bad customer service probably suffocating in angry tickets.
Mutliplayer is not even in the game unless you count seeing a CMDR name every once in a while.
But eh he´s a nostalgic Elite fan so will probably rate it 11/10
There is a big problem here paid the 75$ to start early played for about a week then around sol area got interdicted and game froze on my throttle control loged out and loged back in still frozen. Put in a ticket waited several days no response got the automated response, put in 2 more tickets no response went to forums and asked about other help. I asked if you deleated a save would you go back to last save answer is no you had to start over made 2 more attempts for help no luck. I deleted save and started over on the 16th. Im sure what other are gonna do but if they do not put in a last save I will not be playing this for very long and my guess so will others. Not real happy with Frontier at this time.
Thanks for reading this from an old retired frog who has the money too play these games to a point.

I don't get the enamor of docking a space station manually by the developers? Come on, no fragile space station would ever allow such!
Cute game, but I don't get the feel that they upgraded this game much beyond the graphics.
If surfing space with a joystick is your bag and you don't like computers doing things they can do much better, this is the game for you.
new graphics alone is not enough!
the rose tinted memories, the tearfull nostalgia will wear off soon enough.
*poof*

lol, you know when i click the link to read the review i should not have to click another to actually read the review...just saying.
Also, is it not time to have these reviews in a video format? I hate to read and like to put my feet up while i watch and learn perhaps a video wrap up when its all done? That would be sweet. I am looking forward to the final review.
kk merry hoe hoe and all that stuff.
So while it's a review in progress, and it is the first part of that review, opening with a bit of waxing poetic about nostalgia is alright.
However, "quest writer"? On you're own site you have an anonymous "guest writer" doing a review on a recently released game, and that writer wrote a whole lot of words that was nothing more than praise for previous games in the series, and said not much of anything at all.
"Guest writer" is the point were it goes from review in progress to paid for advertisement part one.
It may just be gaming, but integrity doesn't need to be tossed out the window. Name your authors so we as the readers, reading a REVIEW, are able to know in what context might the individual be approaching their review. For all I know Braben, or whatever his name is, is writing the damn thing himself!
The articles here were a lot better 10 years ago when it was a smallish site; nowadays the articles come across a lot more like pandering than reporting.
You do realize you can purchase an internal module for your ship that's an automated docking computer for you ship, right? So you CAN have the computer do the docking for you.
Been playing since Alpha and find this to be one of the most engrossing games I have played in years.
You can keep all your Destiny games, CoD and BF games along with WoW and any other mmo you care to mention. I just want Elite Dangerous.
Yes, I fondly remember my time with Frontier (the first Elite sequel). It kept me going for much longer than most other games of the time did. It is a solid concept.
These days I have other games to scratch that itch, but I do envy those that are taking on this type of game for the first time. I wish I had the time and mindset to do it again.
Don't waste your fingers bud, there's obviously an agenda here....
Playing this with ocululus rift and a x-55 hotas makes this the most immersive most fun game since ... years to me.
Euro truck sim in space or not - it is actually fun to play wich is what counts. _It wont hold my interest for months as it is but i sure as hell will keep comming back everytime more content gets released.
This is a game for us burnt out old time gamers that shiver when they read "call of duty 14". I love it when not everything is self explanatory. I love how unforgiving it is when you find out you mapped boost and landing gear too close to eachother ending up as a smudge on the station wall.
Docking Computers only cost about 4500 cr too so their even cheaper than a small Pulse Laser
docking isn't exactly difficult, though i can imagine if your flying one of the really big ships you might not want to risk it docking manually.
One thing i've found is that Hunting Bounties makes more money than Mining asteriods, well unless you get real lucky that is with a platinum roid, and Mining, if its in a metallic belt, is more profitable than hauling goods between stations (unless you can haul 200+ at a time that is!)
Please, before spewing nonsense educate yourself on the content of teh KS pledge and you might discover the game is like this BY DESIGN because people wanted it like this
You not liking it has no impact whatsoever on reality of facts
I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
I'm actually directly opposite--if there is a video review I skip it. I don't have the patience to listen to people ramble on. In a written review, I can skim and read what I want. But I'm guessing we're different generations here....
Ironically, you both lack patience. One for having to read at all, and one for having to read/listen to everything someone has to say... not sure which one is in which generation lol.
lol, well i do not think generations have much to do with this but for what it is worth, i was a young lad when Atari and Colecovision were released, I was at summer camp when Elvis died..think i was in grade 7 when John Lennon died.
I've been testing and playing Elite Dangerous since Alpha, and still playing it just as fervently as ever. I cannot wait until they add walking in stations, EVA's, planetside landings, and all the other things they have said we're getting. So far the Braben has given us pretty much what he said we'd get and he did it pretty quickly. I suspect we'll be getting other additions to the game in a decent time span. Once they deliver on these things Elite Dangerous will be the single most impressive persistent online gaming verse available to gamers.
Add to that that they are really pushing the envelope in regards to using technology to make the game as immersive as possible, like procedural gaming world, Oculus Rift support, voice command input, the game is a marvel to be a part of. I am a fan of the Elite franchise and suspect I will be in the future. In Braben we trust.
Coming from you? Colour me impressed. Thanks, and I'll be following this one a little more closely.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
If you're referring to yaw, it's purposely nerfed to encourage a certain type of flight style, otherwise.. there's a blue segment on your speed indicator, when you're within this segment power is diverted more evenly between thrusters and main engines. If you put more pips in ENG instead of WEP or SYS the blue area will be at a higher speed threshold allowing for faster turns at higher speeds.
Bear in mind that there are a number of upgrades in the game that can also influence these things. The 'starter' ship is quite basic fare.
