[Column] Marvel Heroes 2015: Four Things We Want from Marvel Heroes in 2015

We re-reviewed the game earlier this year, bumping our score up from our initial 5.6 to an 8.2, reflecting all the improvements we found in the game. Still, there are a number of issues that have presented since then and today we’re offering up our list of improvements we’d like to see Gazillion make over the course of the next year.

I think the first point is probably the most important to me. MM is fun and great for levelling new characters, but it does get old after awhile. They need more things like the one shots and a few more alternatives to MM that are just as fun and rewarding.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

An endless dungeon-type feature. Just somewhere to hop into where you go from randomized level to randomized level (alone or in a group) and have to clear it out before heading down to the next one, with difficulty increasing with each level. Maybe tack on a "save" feature to allow you to start at later levels within the endless dungeon for when you want to skip all the easy initial levels and go straight for the harder, more rewarding later levels.

Always been a big fan of endless dungeons, they can be a ton of fun and they fill out a nice little niche of content to help ensure there's always going to be something "new" for folks to grind rather than the same boss missions over and over.

I think they should lower the frequency of Hero releases. Every 2 month, or even every 3 months is fully okay. But as of now, it goes to fast (perhaps just for me?). Instead of that they should put more Manpower to the Dungeons and lvl stuff.

Perhaps also we can get the Old Limbo back? Such stuff i would like to see more often. Also a Cosmic Version of Midtown/ICP would be awesome.

But beside from that, they doing so well as they rly listen to the Community as far as possible, not loosing their own line. I can just be better. They learned much and have my thx for that. A company where i love to throw my €'s on.

I agree, they listen to the community and playing their game has for me been much fun.  Lots of inventory space.  Ports back to town on a short timer.  Plenty of good drops.  New heroes gained automatically because you bought the main Hero pack.  Lots of promo codes given out.  Love this game.

the thing on top of my wishlist for marvel heroes in 2015 is :

    CLIENT STABILITY !

sorry for the caps but i honestly think this should be on top of the dev to-do list. the game is unplayable after 1 hour and has to be restarted because the client becomes unstable the longer you play. i would give up on 6 months of content/heroes updates if it meant a stable client after those 6 months.

other than that, gaz should keep doing what they do. they are on a good track and the game is amazing.

I have to disagree with the pace of content development. They're always releasing new heroes, new items, new costumes, etc. One shots are starting to come out within a consistent time frame. Pet cybernetics is relatively new, adding yet another way to tweak your heroes. Same with the newly released 'mutation' omega tree.

Gazillion is putting out more content than either of their major competitors (GGG and Blizzard), and they're doing it all for free.

Blizzard especially should be embarrassed. I love D3, but they should be ashamed that two comparatively small independent developers can push out more and better content in three months for their free to play games than Blizzard can for D3 plus RoS, both of which had a box price.

If the danger room is like PoE's maps, then the only thing Gazillion would have to do to become the undisputed king of ARPG development is to incorporate seasons and / or leagues.

I've spent almost a thousand hours in Gazillion's version of the Marvel Universe, and I'm nowhere near done with it. Plus achievements aren't even in yet... which I hope they will be soon.

Edit: Oh and yes, fix the client. It's not a huge deal to log out every hour or two to 'reset' performance, but it's still annoying. Although I've found that if I avoid Midtown and Industry City, performance degrades much, much more slowly.

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

all i want from Marvel Heroes is gamepad support so i can play again. ARPGs are one of the most perfect games to be played with a gamepad. I dont care if i have to switch to keyboard to chat with people. I dont want my gameplay limited to mouse clicks.

EDIT: Gazillion games, hear my words, i will be more inclined to give you my money if i can enjoy the gameplay. i dont enjoy pointing and clicking

I won't play because of Hero skins that aren't possible to obtain anymore, e.g., Symbiote Spider-Man (the real one), Weapon X Wolverine, etc.

    I'm done with 1-time exclusives.

beside MM, theres ICP, Xdef, and Holo.

they just added another one shot in the past week, 3 in total.

Personally would like another story to run through but meh, seems we're never getting that.

    This is not a game.

They've been working on the next story chapter for a while now.  Every once in a while over the past few months some of their spoiler screenshots shows some of the next chapter.

Kinda strange how LONG it's taking though to finish.

the game needs new ways to upgrade ultimate attacks. thats my only real complaint.

besides that i think this is the best ARPG on the market. amazing game play, tons of awesome heroes we all love from comics and cartoons, great community, lots of content and items to farm.

I played the hell out of this game earlier this year until a few months back. There is just way too much to do and feel like if you don't play during events your just falling behind. Its probably one of the few games I can say there is too much to do and I'd say I am pretty hardcore in most of my gaming. It felt like it pigeonholed you into playing only 1 or 2 heroes effectively. Also, the fortune cards left a bad taste in my mouth, for the odd skin or two I'd actually want and would have to gamble to get.

The events repeat and in fact have been made easier and easier each time.  For example, the cosmic event that you needed to do for the power cosmic legendary item which is best-in-slot for a ton of characters happens once a month and is a LOT easier than it used to be.  We're talking like... well, to give you an idea, the first time the event rolled around I only barely got enough for one power cosmic legendary item when farming like crazy. However, the last time it rolled around a couple weeks ago, I got enough cosmic stones to get FOUR power cosmic legendaries and I wasn't even trying that hard (now each boss drops like, 2-5 world stones each unlike the first time the vent existed where you could only get like, 1 every 2 minutes or something ridiculous like that)

The ARMOUR event (where you get BiS item for summoners and certain AoE hybrids) likewise drops armour items a LOT more often than it used to and even lowered the price of purchase from 1,000 to 700.  Again, I got like, 5 items this time around whereas the first time I only barely scrapped together one.

.....if anything, it almost seems too easy now.

Cash shop random box items in any game like fortune cards can go to hell, though. Totally agree with you on that (fortunately for me, none of the costumes in them ever appealed to me).  Marvel Heroes fortune cards are slightly less vile, evil, and slightly less a pain in the ass because of the "guaranteed to buy what you want after your 200th card if you didn't get it by then" system though.  ...but yea, still sucks.

I would like to see player housing with housing items that drop from mobs like in DCUO.

I understand this is an AARPG but it's also listed as an MMO.

When you're done with prestige and equipping your favorite heroes(or villians) with all the BiS items, there really is nothing much left to do cept omegas and lvling new characters for synergies.

I do love this dev team though and feel that the improvements they've made on this game from launch is amazing.

Don't forget Civil War is coming to movies and we can only wait to see how that (or other movie influences) come to the game!

The graphics are fine and the art direction. What is needed is better optimization. All you have to do is run it in the 64 bit launcher and it performs great. If you don't? It offers horrible performance. I have an expensive system and I have heard the 32 bit client is optimized better for average and below PCs. No idea though, have no way to test it. Bottom line if you have to tweak how a game opens for the best performance there is a problem.

But if you max the graphics out completely (not use their settings for max) - really max it out? Including messing around in Nvidia control panel or AMD Catalyst settings? It looks very good. Certainly better than Diablo 3 and PoE. I have never noticed a problem in character looks and animation - apart from maybe enhanced costumes. I even lowered my graphic settings and things seem fine.

Marvel Heroes needs cheaper prices in the shop. They aren't exactly whaling, but they aren't affordable either. They would make more and sell more stuff if they simply lowered the price of costumes.

Two modes for repeatable content are enough for now. The game needs more PVE content. More chapters (not just one), more raids, more one shots more multiplayer options other than X-defense and the shield training waves. Overall an "expansion" is needed of sorts. More spread out hero releases and more PVE content if that is what's needed.

Nobody uses PVP, scrap it and use those resources to get stuff out faster.

Easier way for ultimate upgrades and stuff like that is very minor, in comparison to that stuff.

Regardless, love the game, one of my favorites.

Actually - coming to Marvel Heroes from GW2, Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3 (last 2 closest) I find a lot of things that can opccupy my time. Charm of a new game I think, but still - it took me more time to rush through story than in D3 (with expansion) and taking my hero for a spin to lvl him to the cap is still fun. Compared to D3 is a win situation, compared to TL2? Well... depends on mods I picked. Still - it would be awesome if gazillion would pump some awesome repeatable content into game before I'll level up all my heroes XD

New endless Dungeons and randomly generated maps. Replay is key.

My two cents on some basic ideas on which to base them:

-Arcade. He's kind of a goofy X-men villain sure..but random runs through his giant game based mazes would be an ideal way to provide repeatable content.

-Mysterio: Spidey's (and others) FX/Illusion creating nuisance. Anything could be created from this..different scenarios each time.

-Mastermind. Think of what Jason Wyngarde did to the X-Men..to Jean Grey alone. Could be treated much like Mysterio above but with more gravitas.

-The Beyonder. Perhaps best for PvP. Lets see hero on hero action (eeewww..that sounds just wrong) in a Secret Wars Battleground.

-Hell..even throw our heroes/villains into an arena... Planet Hulk style.

-What if?.....something based on the premise of the "What if?" (or is it Alternaverse) books. Nothing concrete in mind..just think its a concept that could be worked with to a very cool resolution.

    ..Finally...

    -Infinity..whatever. Thanos as a raid boss....'nuff said.

    AWESOME

A good article. The point - Visual Updates and Art Consistency nails it though. For me this is extremely important as I play so many characters and would like to see them all get the same amount of love. That and the Ultimate Upgrade situation. Especially as you say with Team Ups costing as much as actual heroes.
