Season 2 is quite static you know. If by static you mean permanent.

please you guys say its will be his doom for the last 2 years, and for teh last 2 years you ask for this expansion with arena net already said they will not make, the real question here is why the hell you guys want this expansion so much? new classes and races will can happen without a expansion, and serious only western games try to push for expansion boxed cost plus subs, when I played ragnarok all expansion came without extra costs, same for aion, all during his P2P time.
also if you want more permanet content then tehya re doing it silver wastes are permanent, most content on season 2 can be redone and the only thing you really need to do is log during his 2 weeks time frame to get the new content

Yeah. He doesn't even need the story chapters to play in Silverwastes/Dry Top to begin with, anyway.
As long as they don't add trinity, quest hubs, or gear grind then I'm cool with ever. If I wanted those things I would play one of the 99.8% of the other MMOs.
Originally posted by BillMurphy I have zero real knowledge, but I'm betting on SOME sort of expansion announcement. Though a traditional boxed one is probably not what we're looking at. Rather, I'd bet on some sort of DLC type announcement.

Atleast GW2 doesn't tripple dip like most MMOs. Cash shop, Sub, AND expansions. Wooooooooooo

If a expansion with full box cost (they already have the cash shop) is what Anet needs to and skills/weapons, overhaul/update WvW a lot, and add new zones on the scale of the launch continent, wouldn't that be ok?
Hasn't gw2 sold around 7 million copies? That's upwards of 300 million dollars not even including the cash shop. 300 million, that's enough for a couple developed from the ground up voice acted mmorpgs. I just can't understand why NCsoft would not have gave the ok to do it again.
Do they think the market has changed and it's time to take the money and run? Did some of that money go towards Wildstar's 7 year development? Maybe the money is being put into GW3 to be released in the next 3 years? Idk..

Contrary to popular belief, there are still new accounts to be made so. Yeah, your argument flops.
And um, bcbully, contrary to Zenimax, who fired some of their staff, ANet has kept hiring. That my friend speaks louder than any troll on this board.
And idk what is wrong with the WvW, clearly more people play it than TESO's RvR, as proven by DMKano few days/weeks ago.

You are a little defensive buddy. We are talking about GW2 and it's future. This about the Great MMORPG Face-off Winner ESO.
I don't understand modern people. Gw2 is getting expanded every 2 weeks. And then people cry for expansion like its going to be the holy grail or something. Would you appreciate a dump labeled an expansion? I know I wouldn't. But then again I'm a realist. I don't wear pink-tinted glasses when I speak
P.S: A rhetorical question. How many expansions have ruined the base game? Don't answer that. The list is too long. And I wouldn't want something like Mists of Pandaria or NGE to happen to Guild Wars 2.
These live events every 2 weeks are in no way considered to have "expanded" the game by any sense of the imagination. The game needs new whether it be a class, a race, something. This is the same game as it was at release, and just stepping into T1 WvW proves the population is nowhere near what it used to be.
So just for the record....many of us don't understand you either. If you think this game is sooooooooooooooooo great......why do you have zero faith an expansion would great as well? Your logic is baffling.

NA + EU sold 4M copies and China sold around 3M copies. Its probably around 8 Million by now TBH.
I'm sure its going to be something big, you don't have the president of ANET (Mike O'Brien) and team lead game designer (Colin Johanson) do a main theater stage to talk about "its on the tables" its "look this is what we have been working on, this is our future, oh, and here's a sneak peak" They been obviously been working on big thing in the background for a long while. People forget, even the Titan of MMO's World of Warcraft (SEE WHAT I DID THERE? XD) didn't have its best received expansion "Burning Crusade" for 3 years after the initial Vanilla release. It's only been 2.5 years with a butt load of added content to the game while still working on massive projects in the background, this is nothing to be ashame of and if anything its put its competitors in the dust in terms of quality, and what to expect from a MMO.
Just to add some illumination, gw2 did not sell 7million copies... last we heard was that it had sold 3.5million copies and 760,000 accounts in china... a while ago there was an article that took this chinese account number and x5 and claimed 3.8million characters created... this was misinterpreted by many as 3.8million copies sold in china... and then run by some mmo news sites without checking their sources....
Some players reported the incorrect information on these forums, and despite being proven wrong they refused to change their posts because they are trying to mislead people into thinking gw2 is doing better than it is...
GW2 isn't dead... but it's not at 7 million copies sold either...

I remember that. A poster on these forums revealed the mistranslation that Anet later confirmed. That does changes the figures in my earlier post quite a bit. I wonder what it's earned over that past 2.5 years. I know it's all in the earnings reports, but I'm not digging and adding 10 reports tonight... Anyone know off hand?
In 2013 it had sold 3.5 Million copies of the game. With that being said, I would bet my left nut that they have sold over 7 million copies total by now since the release in China.

Where did they state that they sold 3 million in China.? Even Anet refuted that when someone made that claim for them and their poor translation went viral. I am pretty sure that if they had those numbers they would have announced them. Also, China merged servers last month, and stated that sales in China were not meeting expectations in the last earnings call. I don't know the number they have sold, but I would most likely say that 8 million is probably not the number.

Well all we really know (unless someone compiles all of their financial reports) is that they made at a minimum in their first nine months after launch is at least $150 million. That's 3 million copies x $50 just to be simple. That's not counting gem purchases. According to wiki (which should always be taken with a grain of salt) they had sold up to 3.5 million by August 2013, which is roughly it's first year anniversary. We know the game hasn't been "pulled from the shelves" though we also don't know how it's been selling since then either. There are about four regular posters on the GW2 forums here though that I can think off of hand that will tell that it hasn't been selling well. /shrug Lets see what they say..... *sits back with a grin*
edit: Well there is one of them so far. Three to go.

I would pay for that, but its seems that ESO is gonna be the one to fix their pvp first by increasing the AoE cap.

Here's to hoping it IS an expansion, even though the announcement is a year and a half late and everyone has already given up and moved on.

There will be too high expectations for an expansion:
It has to fix everything that is "wrong" with current game and also add new content, races and classes. It can only go wrong.
I would prefer Arenanet to spend time on making a new game and not an expansion.

I hope Arenanet adds additional skills to each weapon.
So that each player can be customized to be different from another with the same class/weapon combo.
