To be fair, this is one of those games like Wizardy that wasn't developed in house as far as I know. Planetside 2 is an in house developed game and the quality shows. But yeah, I agree with you feelings.
Nope, H1Z1 is 100% pure SOE.
It's being developed using the same engine (ForgeLight) that's used in Planetside 2, Landmark and eventually EQ:N.
Admittedly, my cynical side suspects that they saw the survival genre as a "target of opportunity" and decided to throw something together and see what sticks. They already had the engine, all they need is art assets and some game rules, neither of which need to be extensive for a survival game.
That was in game dev time, an extremely old build.
It's video from CES 2015. SOE devs had to pick up the best build of the game to show us, and this is what they picked.
I don't doubt that things like lighting, missing animations, and crappy interface are going to get improved. It's very early in development and things like that are going to be added later and polished a lot. But what about gameplay? To me it looks like SOE is releasing the game so early access that it can't be played.

That quote ( That was in game dev time, an extremely old build.) i took it directly from their twitter, and the dev actually told us on H1z1 Reddit about the build their were using during that time and why. because its was the only one working at the time, they last stream was way better looking then this, and worked perfectly. they will show us another stream soon just before EA release.

Then why were they using that old build at CES 2015? Because it was the only one working!
Apparently their newer builds were so buggy they couldn't let CES 2015 participants get any hands-on time with those newer builds. So that build shown at CES 2015 was the best.
There's always going to be a newer build if devs get more control over what parts of the game are shown and can avoid the new bugs and screw-ups that come with it. That's not much good outside the demos though.
There are a few videos on youttube with Rhinocrunch showing the game with pretty good graphics and crafting etc. Not sure what this video shows to promote the game. weird.
First SOE has stated multiple times this is a pre alpha build it is not a final product. You will NOT see a final product for 18-24 months. Do you guys just think a game goes from pre alpha to holy crap it looks amazing over night ?
This uses the same game engine EQN, Landmark, PS2 use so we can expect a better quality when its done.
no I expect a game to go from pre-alpha to alpha, not just be in pre-alpha for this long. Or maybe even closed beta by now.

Haven't we heard that old excuse a million times before and then got a "final" product just as bad.

They should be ashamed of themselves asking $20 for Early Access. This looks atrocious.
STEAM seems to be a cesspool of low quality games. I refuse to install it on my PC.
