Skyforge: A First Look at Naori Island

BMunchausenBMunchausen Staff WriterMMORPG.COM Staff Posts: 400

Obsidian Entertainment recently gifted would-be Skyforge players with some  images of Naori Island, a one-time tropical resort located on Aelion.

The island's idyllic days are over though, thanks to alien invaders, and players who land there won't have soft sand and tasty drinks waiting for them--they'll have hostile troops, wild animals, and dangerous sea creatures to contend with.

For a panoramic preview of Naori Island or more info about Skyforge, visit the game's official website.

I really like the art style of this game, it's asian with a tinge of realism. My only hope is that we don't get female warriors clad in nothing but satin and lace, yet wielding tree-like swords...

I wonder if they have some Tech-mixed-with-nature locations in plan as well.

Tbh, it almost looks like this game is being made for the Asian market. The art style and combat graphics are very close to many of the Korean games we've seen ported to the NA/EU market.

    Has potential though....

Looks like it could be great.

Hope for a beta key myself.

Hello guys, to anyone interested in the game: The Russian CBT has, as of three minutes ago, started! A stream is available at goha.tv (please note it's in Russian, though).

Sadly when we hear ASIAN we have an idea ,which is trhose over sized weapons and females draped in lace, which as we all acknowledge looks unrealistic and imo dumb.FFXi a Japanese developer used realistic weapon sizes as well as realistic timed weapon swings as well as realistic gear not always full of spikes.

I also enjoy Asian type graphics/art but in MOST cases it has no depth, example buildings are merely 2D objects with no doors or insides. That right there spells RUSHED game design and why most Asian games have no QUALITY.

Skyforge does look pretty good but can it escape the ASIAN stereotyping? My gut says no,no in no depth or overall quality, just a world that is full of those 2D objects,a simplistic hotbar spam combat system, over sized weapons and soem cheap crafting system that is tied into a cash shop ect ect.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I would like for you to show me a QUALITY western MMO that has been profitable besides WoW. Didn't realized that not being able to enter buildings was an asian thing cause you know Archeage isn't asian apparently. Also, that means Rift is asian since you can't enter every building for pointless reasons. "No depth or overall quality" last time I checked a game is suppose to be fun, you want indepth worlds and quality play skyrim and dragon age.

builidings you can enter... realistic sized weapons, females in armor, not silk.

backside: many things, like combat system are still in development. its usable, playable but not finished yet. it's also on steam and no more downtimes :)

I admit that they are not making it easy, but:

    http://sf.my.com/sites/sf.my.com/files/media/images/skyforge.jpg

    Not exactly practical armor, either.

    And what have we here:

    http://sf.my.com/sites/sf.my.com/files/media/images/gunner_01n_com.jpg

Looks like leather or something, not metal, but for a ranged class she is rather heavily armored, and there is not a single piece of skin exposed. And that is a screenshot, not some concept art that might or might not make it into the game.

Not all weapons are that big, either, though they do tend to be a bit oversized.

The real question is how much freedom players have in customizing their character.

Like, in Vindictus you can run around like that:

    http://i.imgur.com/w6LVH.jpg

Typical asian? Maybe. But what about that:

    http://nxcache.nexon.net/vindictus/microsite/twilight/img/img_newArmorSets-2.jpg

And Vindictus *is* asian first and foremost.

    And speaking about "typical asian":

    http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/File:Aldmeri_Dominion_concept_art.jpg

Two out of three people are not really dressed for battle there. Western game, western franchise, western developer, western publisher, western market. And yet it features half naked chicks. Or boob plates...:

    http://eso-fashion.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2014/05/Altmer-Dwarven-Female-44-Superior-Close-Front.jpg

And that is after they turned it down, compare it with Skyrim:

    http://thegaminggals.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/boob-plate-armor-skyrim-545x357.jpg

    Or this one:

    http://eso-fashion.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2014/07/Orc-Dwarven-Female-36-Normal-Close-Front.jpg

Really nice armor. A shame if someone would abuse that huge gap in it..

Other examples that do not fit the prejudice would be FF XIII (at least the first two parts), with Snow running around bare-chested, and Lightning not even showing *her neck*, even less anything remotely close to her boobs, even when she is touching the mark..which is on her chest.

    Tl;dr:

I don't believe there is such a thing as "typical asian" or "automatically high quality due to being western". Not anymore, and maybe never was.

I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high
And then I'll rise with the tide with a lust for life, I'll
Amass an army, and we'll harness a horde
And then we'll limp across the land until we stand at the shore
