So basically I've been reading all over the internet that MMOs today suck and they could be better. Am I right? So I decided a list of what people want from MMOs so new indie game developers could use it to create the best MMO on Kickstarter and publish it on Steam and get praise from all the people in the world.
1. Your game must be sandbox. I mean sandbox like you're thrown into a game and that's it. MAKE NO TUTORIALS! That just ruins the immersion! Remember! Also make no boundaries at all. You know that part of the world that's not rendered because there's actually nothing there? Open that place up and throw some stupid lore and boom 10/10.
2. Hardcore gameplay! Open world PvP is all you need. When a person kills you he actually not only gets your loot but your whole account. I mean why not?
3. Open world housing. Make it so people can put house ANYWHERE, make it possible to rob the houses, destroy them and etc. I mean SWG had open world housing so no matter how you do it it will be good. Amirite?
4. Hardcore gameplay. No catering to casuals. What is this, WoW? No way man, no way. Your first weapon is a stick and you are not able to replace with a sword until you get proper training. To get the training you need to find a trainer. The trainer needs 500 gold. This is not WoW so 500 gold is a lot. After killing wolves for 3 hours you finally get 5 gold and decide to go play something else.
5. Player run economy. No wait make it player run everything. No npcs and shit. And no mobs. You get xp from PvP. 420/10
6. No levels. I mean who likes levels? You don't level, no one levels. Everyone is equal.
7. Grinding. Lots of grinding. Make it so that you must kill 500 wolves so you can log out.
8. No dungeons or raids. What is this? Themepark games? WoW? Nah fuck that. We're being hardcore and true MMO players. Who needs that shit?
9.Copy other MMOs art assets so the game would be cheaper.
10. Start a Kickstarter. List things like 250$ to get a pony, 500$ to get a Merry Christmas Card.
15. Start a company. Put some random words and it will be a good company name. "Good games", "MMO GAMES" "BIG RED RAKE".
420. Remember YOUR GAME IS IN ALPHA SO DON'T FIX ANY BUGS. PEOPLE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM ARE IDIOTS!!1111
360. Did I mention that people who want to test the game must pay 60$?
9001. After all these steps are done sell your game to either one of these: Aeria Games, Nexon or Webzen.
Well that's all I could think of! Maybe someone will use these ideas to create the best MMO ever! HORRAY!

nah .. different people have different preferences .. there is no such thing as the "best" MMO.
For example .. almost all your points will result in games I do not like.
I would much rather have a action combat, lobby-based MMO like marvel heroes than anything you said.

The problem is that Indie developers can NOT deliver because their games lack so much they are removed from TRIPLE A status and i don't like supporting AA gaming.I don't want half a shell of a game, some solid ideas but the rest of the game is total trash, that does not make it any better than what we have now.
I have waited and at one point EXPECTED a game to come along that rivaled my fave FFXI game but nothing has been remotely close. It is simply too costly for developers to put in the work needed to make a AAA game.Since i is/was a big fan of Square Enix i witnessed what happened just trying to make a better game engine, they nearly lost their shirt,it forced them to hurry up game development to get some of that money back.
Look at Blizzard,a huge developer and they still run 10 year old game engines with still low end tech.SOE i have seen their transformation, they have streamlined development to make it faster and easier.SOE had a gem in their TCG but i saw very early they did not want to afford the effort, their community team was very early almost non existent.
Game development is not a passion but a full time business, they are not going to cut profits to give you that extra mile in the game, they only do what is the minimum to make a buck.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
You shouldn't have played the satire so close to your chest.
Quoted for truth! All new MMO's should sell spaceships, even if they are fantasy based, because it's obvious people will throw money at chance to buy them.

Spaceships is so last year. The new thing is sell houses... which can be vandalized and destroyed...then you sell more houses... pure genius!

List has good ideas, but if you can't create a compelling world without PvP, it won't be compelling with PvP. This means PvE and points of interest throughout the world which create prime real estate and locations worth fighting over. You don't have to make the game loot-driven, but if dungeons and npcs provide wealth, enchantments, resources or materials, it will in turn create scenarios where PvP is more than random ganking or endless castle sieges over territory in a dull world. Its imperative for a successful sandbox mmorpg, and the sole reason almost every "sandbox" game thus far has basically sucked.
Funny I just got done posting this in a Darkfall thread, and here I am 2 minutes later posting it again.
