The first update of 2015 has been revealed for EVE Online. Called "Proteus", the update brings a treasure trove of updates and new content into the venerable game including new mining locations, new asteroid field effects, new (and beautiful) music and much, much more.

The Proteus site on the general EVE site has been updated with information about all of the significant update features and includes several key developer blogs addressing each one.

Find out more about Proteus on the EVE Online site.

Treasure trove? haha. That sounds like a whole lot of nothing. CCP hasn't been able to add any meaningful content since 2010 and every new release is as bad as the last. One day i'd like to see game play changes especially some new combat mechanics. How about adding in some actual content for those pretty avatars they made that can only walk around in a closet by themselves?

Eve online is in full maintenance mode. I wonder what new game they are working on, because it hardly seems like they have been developing eve at all for years.

    Whatever...

Personally I feel teh game is better than ever and you know what? Immunity to directional scan actually IS a new combat mechanic.

They are close to having re-done all gfx for the game for the third time. All done in the last years. They have added more ships the last year than since 2007. So, exactly WHAT are you on about?

When there are so many ships already , adding a few more isn't really much of content to me. And one class of ships, that cost 250mil for the hull alone are immune to dscan, so sure for pro scouts that is nice but for the majority of players it makes no difference. And as for graphics, pretty much everyone I knew when I played eve had their camera zoomed way out. Sure it's nice for screenshots, but in fleet fights and even small fights pvpers need that situational awareness and are zoomed way out a lot of times just able to see brackets, not the ship model itself.

They really haven't been adding much to eve, a lot of that was due to the cancelled World of Darkness, and the failed dust 514. As a long time eve player I'm telling it how it is.

I think what CCP are doing is great, I don't know if it's renewed interest in the genre, competition from SC and Elite or a combination of both but this 6 weekly update model seems to be working well for them and the players, hopefully other MMOs *cough* Blizzard *cough* could do the same to keep people more involved in their games.

As always, EVE is graphically stunning, no small feat for a 13 year old game. Kudos CCP.

Don't be too surprised though if other 'long time Eve players' disagree with you, and as someone who has been playing since february 2004, i have seen a lot of things added to the game recently, and those additions to mining, look pretty good so far, more Ore ships is no bad thing, nor were the Sisters of Eve ships that were added, or the tier 3 destroyers, each to their own i guess, i actually enjoy playing the game after all image

Yeah it was a shame about WoD, but the game wasn't going anywhere apparently and they couldn't afford to keep supporting it, things like that happen, as for Dust, well, no surprise really, a few people still play it. But if had to choose between Valkyrie, Legion  or WoD, then i'd rather have Valkyrie and Legion.image

Whatever happened to "Walking on stations"? Seems to be ignored for years.

They would rather do small balancing changes, and minor graphics updates and work on other poorly thought out games instead of working on eve. Don't expect much for eve in the future, it is in full maintenance mode.

Lol. As someone who has played the game since beta, the game has been picking up speed for the last two years after the 2009-2012 lul in development.

Personally I am glad they put WiS into the grave, as it was obvious they had no real idea of what kind of gameplay to put in there. I rather want them focused on the "real" eve than some unwanted/useless avatar gameplay.

It could've been made very useful. You are correct that its absolutely useless now in its current state.

for me a sandbox game is only as good as what the players bring to the table. CCP can introduce new content til the cows come home but its the players action and ideas that make the game.

Six updates in one year is nothing to sneeze at.
