These may be some stupid questions, but I am about to start playing this game. I am coming from WoW and it I am just wondering about the Chronicles, are those free downloads, Like patches or are they more like exspansions?
Also, is it worth getting this late, as there are probably HARDLY any newb players in the starting zones, it kind of makes it seem really hard to get a party, and I don't want to be a loner like I am in WoW, it gets kind of boring after a while.
The game just seems fun and it doesn't seem like it hold your hand all the way through..
Thanks..

The Chronicles are free Expansions! You could call them patches...but they are so big that they are really expansions and whatnot. The game usually patches every week or two for bugs and a few modifications, usually more patching when a chronicle is just released. This is what really got me to buy this game. I didn't like the whole pay to play thing, but I figured I am just paying for expansions instead of a monthly fee.
The isn't many new players, I will be honest! I logged on my alt today on Talking Island (Human noob area) and did see 2 genuine new players, and about one or two alts. Really at very early levels it is the luck of the draw to get a party. Until level 20ish you probally won't see many people at all, but you also will have no trouble soloing those levels, actually I recommend it.
Once you complete your first class transfer you will probally have no trouble finding groups in Catacombs. Once you hit level 25 you will start seeing more people in the Dion region, and it will become even easier to find groups in those areas.
Why I recommend you soloing your first 20 levels or even 25 levels is because you will want to be keeping adena on your mind, maybe even more than levels. By lvl 25 you probally will be able to get some D grade gear if you play it smart! Money is hard to come by in this game.
At lvl 35+ grouping is really where the game is at. To maximize the fun factor is to get into groups. To expand that even further would be to get into a clan! This way you can trust the people you party with, and start socializing and doing the things that L2 is really good at. Without many friends this game can become dull and boring very quickly.
I will warn you now! This game is a large jump from WoW. WoW is like a beginners MMO whereas L2 is an advanced MMO. You will not hit level cap in a few months, if you are really hardcore you might hit level cap in about 13-14 months. But really that doesn't stop you from having fun, it isn't all about hitting level cap. If what you enjoy in MMOs is to just hit level cap, then I probally wouldn't recommend you playing this game. Granted you can probally get to lvl 50 within 3-4 months of semi hardcore play. It is just after lvl 52 that it starts to take a bit longer. This definately will not hold your hand! You must have thick skin to play this game. There are many nice people, but there are also terrible ones. Be on your toes, become powerful, and crush your foes!
The previous poster is correct... this game is SO not like WoW.
WoW is more about creating a fun, laid back world where people do fun quests, some raiding, maybe some pvp etc.
L2 is more about watching your back, joining a good clan and maybe a good alliance so you have some help in the tough times, lots of grinding both for money as well as xp.
The nature of L2, with it's graphics, sieges, etc is more epic than WoW.
This game is not for the faint of heart. You can be pk'ed at anytime anwhere except cities (where it is acceptable to train mobs into cities). You can be scammed and that is part of the game. Scammers abound everywhere.
This game is more about the relationships you make and the player interactions.

It is only when the training of "special mobs" that were never meant to be trained such as certain raid bosses, one of the 7th signs Summons, etc, who AI circumvents the sell/buy shops and they attack them.
NC has indicated that they are working on this problem.
