[Preview] SMITE: Hands-On with the XBOX One Version

At the 2015 Smite World Championships, held from January 9th-12th of this month, I was able to get thirty or forty minutes on the playable beta version of Smite for the X-Box One. For those who do not know, Smite  is Hi-Rez Studios recent entry into the MOBA genre, released in March, 2014. Smite is no standard entry into the genre dominated by Defense of the Ancients 2 and League of Legends, the devs over at Hi-Rez have made several very significant innovations.

Really considering it's a great idea to fit mobas to consoles. Probably they are going to have a way better success than with the PC where the market is kinda "eaten" by the giants. There is this problem when making a moba, you are limited to what you can create and thus what you make looks like a copy. Moba is more like an eSports genre, if you don't change much it will be a copy, if you change too much players are going to think it is weird and annoying and hard to learn all over again. I play lots and lots of DotA, and i really saw potential in this game but as i said, it made too much of a different gameplay for me to even get the feel for it, i liked the game overall , i just could not get into it, besides most of my friends that play dota don't think this is their cup of tea, and thus we can't get from one to the next with ease. Maybe on X1 they will have better luck since well there is no "market-killer" moba atm.

Consider the competition, Smite will be very popular on the xb1. The consoles are hurting for something unique, the handful of exclusives that are broken are not enough to justify the cost of owning a console, Smite alone won't justify that and neither will just porting pc games over night, at least for someone like me who already owns a pc, I own an xb1 too, but so far I am regretting the purchase, the only game I really wanted was halo and they really messed that one up, adding Smite might put a little spark back in my step though, some games I would rather just play on the console, Smite looks like one of them.

You can only play this if you have a xbox live account.  That will certainly reduce the number of possible players immediately.

If you have an Xbox One, an xbox live account is required for most features so I think this won't be as big of a deal as some people make it out to be. Non xbox one owners make this complaint all the time whenever a new game comes out. However, for those who already own an XB1 most already have an xbox live account and this shouldn't be an issue.

I find the xbox exclusivity very disappointing with this one. I quit on PC several months ago, but I'd give it a go again on PS4.
