I changed my mind.

It isn't so bad. I'm a fan of PvP games, but this MMO really has some meat on its bones, the quests are very meaningful compared to many modern day mmorpg's (slay 10 monsters for exp, go to dungeon and slay 10 monsters, go to dungeon and slay big monster), there are puzzles in some dungeons which are pretty cool, and the combat is very nice. It is twitchbased, and I really like that, you choose if you want to block or hit someone. Originally I thought this game would be terrible, but take it from a guy who only liked UO and Asheron's Call darktide, this game is much better than many MMORPG's out there. I don't know why many of you people are calling the beta a scam either, they are stealing no money from you, or posessions.

Yeah, I thought it was just some crap game to help Turbine stay afloat... but after trying it I found it's is a pretty darn good game.

I'm imartial towards PVP so it rocks my boat fine.

I've been in beta since the start, and it has done nothing but get better and I am sure it will continue to do so after launch. Most people who bitch about it are just pissed it isn't like every other MMO out there, because let's face it, most people dislike change. They see 10 levels and not 60, they call foul. They see combat you actually have to put a little more effort into other than hitting stick and punching 2 or 3 attack keys, they call foul. Then you have the people whose only experience with it are hearsay and reading posts, and suddenly they are experts. <rolls eyes> Granted, this game simply isn't for everyone. It will never appeal to as broad a spectrum as WoW does, but on the other hand that's what I like about it most. WoW is too easy, and I don't like being led by the hand. I like a challenge, and DDO provides that. For those who want to bash this game off-handedly or simply don't like it because it isn't their style or to their tastes, well there are plenty of other games out there. Go find one you enjoy. No game will ever please everyone.

Gotta disagree with the 3 previous posters - I changed my mind from "Must have" to "May check back in 6 months if they offer a free trial".  I've played in beta since November, so I've seen many of the changes since then.

The Good:  Pretty graphics, decent sound, some feats and other D&D features are implemented well, there is a LFG panel/flag; Turbine was very good at episodic content in AC; they are trying to fix problems with voicechat

The Bad:  Mob spellcasters can spamcast MUCH faster than PCs - and they never run out of spellpoints;  Mobs jump all over in combat and yet still hit PCs with impunity, PCs that move suffer a -4 to hit [people may argue that you can tumble to avoid being hit, then attack the mob without a penalty - I've never been able to make this work - Iend up with my back to the mob at the end of the tumble and get hit even easier!];  There are supposedly about 130-140 dungeons in the game, but most of them are just subsets - dungeon A set 1, set 2, ...;  You are mostly locked into the city, even the outdoor areas are very small;  contrary to reports by Turbine, almost all mandatory and optional goals in quests involve combat [there is ONE quest where combat is not only unnecessary, it makes the quest fail - all other quests you MUST have combat to complete the quest - many combats!]; the inventory is tiny - the "bank" is 20 slots! - yet success in combat is extremely dependant upon having a "bane" weapon vs the specific type of mob encountered - if you carry enough weapons for each type of mob, you will not be able to pick up anything else; there are collectors scattered about the city so you'll waste time running all over turning in items - a few collectors give bane items, so you MUST collect their stuff - all collectables take up inventory space and only stack to 10, even though you need 3 commons, 2 uncommons, or 1 rare to turn in; to advance the developers admit themselves, you MUST repeat dungeons; all dungeons are static - if a trap was there last time, it'll be there this time - only a few of the optional encounters are random; there are only a very few areas, which you will get tired of quickly, that give xp per encounter - the vast majority of xp is only given upon completion of the quest goal(s)

The bad above is objective - on a personal note, the now total lack of ability to solo for most classes[people will argue this since fighters can solo perhaps as far as level 2] has become the true game-breaker for me.  I like to explore but there is very little to explore except city streets.  There is not much to see in DDO with the static nature of the dungeons - keep doing it even after you've succeeded because the next one is too hard for your level!

Yeah, check back in awhile uncus, maybe things will have changed or expanded enough by then to get you interested again. I do know they are working on the spamcasting and unlimited mana thing. Thats needs fixed bad and hopefully will be by launch. Anyways, always good to see people who don't like the game to actually list their reasons why. Too many people just pop on, say "It sux!" and are off. This is the kind of feedback needed to improve things.
